    I would take issue with the statement "this process is 100% environmentally friendly..." as the heat processing must generate not insignificant amounts of particulates, CO2 and noxious oxides. If you scrubbed your chimney emissions then you might be able to make that claim. Nevertheless, you are still making the best of a bad job (that which is done by needing to use machines that use so many oil filters in the first place - ie internal combustion engines) when there is a perfectly acceptable alternative to 90% of them; ie the electric motor. Your work also goes to prove the wonderful old Yorkshire saying "Were tha's mook, tha's brahss" (or without the lame attempt at accurate Yorkshire phonetical pronounciation - "Where there's muck there's brass', 'brass' meaning money, here).

    I just deal with my personal vehicles doing all the maintenance on them myself. After an oil change I let the filter drain for like a week then toss it in a hot burning wood stove in the garage. When I get some 5-6 gallons of used oil it goes to the local auto parts store where I believe it gets put back into industry.

      Crushing removes 90% of oil. Final 10% is put to use to burn the paint, paper, rubber, and other non steel components of the filter, leaving ash and steel to be recycled as "clean" metal. The oil is still doing work even if it is not 100% removed.

    Can synthetic oil be recycled for asphalt use?

    • @btwbrand
      @btwbrand Před rokem

      It's still oil and can be used to make the asphalt. The "synthetic" part of oil is the fact that the molecules of oil are almost all the same size. In conventional (regular) oil the particles are small medium, big, huge, etc so it doesn't last as long because the smallest and largest oil molecules break and fracture creating contamination. It's all oil no matter the size.

      Well on one hand.. they are cleaning steel to be melted down and used to make new items, collecting oil waste to be used in road production, and are providing a service and jobs. What environmental benefit would it be to take the mountains of oil filters they didn't process and place them in the ground in a landfill or throw them out back in a pile like they did till the EPA was organized? Do an experiment. Take all your used oil filters and throw them in your front yard, and leave them there. Make it a long term project and see if you can document the benefits.

      This is literally recycling.. This entire video is recycling. This is how it's done. You take used items and break them down to be reused. If it was a subsidized service then everything would be recycled as it is in several other countries.
