New Haven CT Building Fire
713/23: Firefighters from New Haven CT responded to 92 Chapel Street for a reported garage fire. While enroute New Haven dispatch informed all companies that they were receiving multiple calls. Engine 10 arrived on scene and transmitted a working fire for heavy fire on the second floor. Companies would make a push inside to search for potential victims but would then back out due to two dead hydrants. This fire would end up going to a third alarm before being declared under control. Check out our website for photos from this incident.

5/7/24: I had the honor to tour the FDNY Mechanics shop at the FDNY Bell Club meeting. Some new pieces of apparatus were on display such as Tiller 169. This rig is unique because the company is switching from a 2011 Rearmount Ferrara to a 2024 Seagrave Tiller. The last time ladder 169 had a tiller was in 1955.

Do you know which other ladder company’s in FDNY that are switching to Tillers ? I heard L-151 in Forrest hills is going back to a Tiller next
I am not sure
What happened to thier kme
It is being replaced as I believe it is over the 10 year mark
I pass by the one in Long Island City on my way to work everyday.

Sweet.......worked Light Duty there in "another life"......delivered tools to Battalions.
Fun fact … that’s just fire apparatus. And just 1 of 3 facilities for maintenance and repairs on fire apparatus. EMS and the command vehicles have an entirely separate facility
Your a lucky guy to get a look around this - I'm from the UK and an retired firefighter I can't believe the size of some of these vehicles. Brilliant vid :)
❤
Sure wish the Tucson Arizona fire department could get fdny rigs. More hose more everything.
when will eng.60, to lad 17 get new vehicles
I’d love to work there.
Seagrave the best Fire Apparatus in America
Since 1888! Or thereabouts!
Nobody even comes close to
Awesome!!! It looks like a Fireman’s Convention with New trucks on display 👨🏿🚒
Alot cleaner than when I worked there and now its got central air
Where is this located and is this open to the public? Would love to see this shop.
It is located in Queens however I do not believe it is open to the public
Most people don’t think about repairing the apparatus! The men and women who maintain these rigs have to get it right. The men and women in the stations and the citizens on NYC count on the apparatus operating as designed. Amazing! Thank you!!🇺🇸
4:18 Ladder 44 is using the oldest rig in the fleet right now, a 1999 Seagrave that responded on 9/11 and was partially destroyed and rebuilt as a 2001. Historic rig that should be saved imo.
the maintenance budget to fix these must be huge, the guys who work here would never stop working.
1:11 hold up, their retiering a kme already? Im not talking about the seagrave, the kme with the number 3 on it is missing the turn signal, grill light and also the chrome around the headlights
No, it is most likely in for maintenance
KME engines are being replaced. Seagrave holds the engine contract again. KME started in 2013. Every 10 years rigs get replaced. The first batch of KME are up. KME pretty much went bankrupt on the city contract. Its parent company closed its manufacturing plant. They couldn’t keep up with the warranty work associated with the FDNY
Alright I have to ask, in every one’s opinion what is the best manufacturer of fire apparatus? I know they are out of business but American la France was the best! Now I’m not sure, Pierce maybe???
That's a red square that I've visited many. Many a times back in the seventies eighties nineties until I left staten island came out to p a and I don't see jack
Where was everyone sleeping? Place is dead. 😵
They sent the mechanics home early due to the Fire Bell Club Meeting. Some of the head mechanics were there though
They have the best equipment
what's the price of one of these ?
I hear upwards of $500,000
Cummins power
Is there and trucks left in service or are they all in this one shop??
Where’s the shop located?
Long Island City, Queens.
You are one lucky guy!+
I wonder Will All The Brand New 2024 FDNY Tillers Have Chevrons On The Back Of Them i Really Hope So
They should, I believe it’s code to have them for all fire trucks and ambulances
@@Jmccarthy298 none of the new engines or ladders have them aside this one, very weird, fdny is known for not following the chevron guildine, which is what NFPA is...a guidleline only
squad 8 and rescue 1 have them, sorry forgot about that! and most of the ambulances...but mostly for the engines ore towers even straight ladders..usually no chevrons
Beautiful tiller ladder truck,if I hear right FDNY is 12 new tiller trucks? Cool video
WOW !! 😮 12 new tillers.. That is incredible !!! Finally someone got some balls and said we need more tillers instead of rear mounts.
With 169 switching to a Tiller there’s 14 tiller companies in FDNY now
Great day! How many pieces of equipment are in that shop?
On a day to day basis it can vary but only including rigs in for routine maintenance the number is most likely around 20
Respect super les camions
Where is this truck going to be stationed out of?
Ladder 169 Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn
I’m shocked to see this all new Tiller 169 , wow very nice Rig, that means FDNY is about too open a Brand New FIRE station in one of three borough’s Queens , Brooklyn or Staten Island, I would love to find out where 🤔
169 is currently a rear mount aerial in south Brooklyn near Coney Island. The city is adding tillers to the fleet. Replacing some rear mounts with tillers
Do they have to take every rig out when they want to move one?
No they have bay doors to drive the rigs through. The shop is also very wide so they can move rigs through
Good video.
53 second video?
I mainly do photos. More can be found on my website @FillTheBoxFire
All new vehicles love it
For those not familiar with FDNY's fleet inventory system, the code on the front & rear of each rig indicates the manufacturer, type, year & number. IE, SP24002 indicates Seagrave Pumper 2024 2nd in service for this year. It's much easier than just a number. First letter: F=Ferrara, K=Kovatch (KME), P=Peterbilt (Satellite chassis), etc. Second letter: L=Ladder, T=Tower, R= Rescue, H=HazMat, S=Satellite, F=Foam, etc. T on the end of a Ladder code means a TDA (tiller). S on the end of a Pumper code indicates a Squad (rescue pumper).
Sure would like to have that Snap-On route!
Wasn’t 169 a rear mount
Yes but they are switching back to a tiller. See my description of the video for more info
L 169 is a second-due for my house. This is new for them. Certainly some tight small streets in this neighborhood.
Anyone know why they don't buy Seagrave rescues? Everything else is Seagrave.
I believe Seagrave got the contract back so the next batch of rescues will be Seagrave
They never bid it or they were always the highest or one of the highest bidders. They did get the contract for the next batch, so those will be Seagrave, for the first time ever I believe.
Amazing they have any ladder trucks on the road after seeing this video… dang.
These mechanics are the unsung heroes of the New York city fire department.
