This song is so adaptable!
Interesting, if a bit choppy.
This military image is really disconcerting. And distracting.
I guess if I close my eyes I can imagine they'll look as they ought.
I love Mad Margaret. I'd love to play her some day. "It's Basingstoke."
"I once made an affidavit. It died. It...died."
They all look like prisoners. I 've got to stop.
I hate the costumes and the sets. Can you imagine if this production had traditional costumes and sets. Should I stop complaining? No? Good.
What strange staging in the opening act. But the voices are wonderfulm
P r o m o S M 😔
and of course i am a magic fairy prince for real in case anyone was noticing
Not a bad potted summary. As someone who's loved Ruddigore for many years, I can confirm that this is definitely accurate. And comedically short.
Lindo
Wonderful
What are the cosmetics that are used didn't get a clear look at them. Can you leave a list of items in the description?? Thank you.
An excellent Savoy Opera which was ruined by the cuts made successively by Gilbert and the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company.
I’m doing ruddigore right now and this was VERY helpful
Excellent! Hope it goes well
@@eastbournegandsthx
I seem to remember seeing a conductor's baton with a glass tube inside which could be lit at the beginning of the performance, which took place in darkness.
thanks for this, i’ve recently discovered Gilbert & Sullivan because of The Simpsons (particularly the episode Cape Feare) and loved what i heard, so i’ve watched a bit of both HMS Pinafore and The Mikado and liked them a lot more than i expected. I’ll have to go finish them and then watch everything else, i really like the oddly specific brand of British humor in the music
A great partnership no doubt yet these are the only operettas commonly known by both librettist and composer. Why? In any other case it would be considered an insult to the composer especially with the librettist's name coming first. Who knows, or indeed cares, who acted as Offenbach's librettist?
Thank you so much very helpful, regrettably N. Wales id rather a long way from the English south coast. Praise the Lord for CZcams productions.
Lovely. I just discovered your group (having listened to The Mikado several times). I will watch it again & all the other sites. I'm American (living in Italy) & my mom (from Glasgow) was a pianist. My parents took me to see The Mikado when I was about 15, love at first vision. I have an LP, 2 VHSs, a DVD & 3 CDs of the Mikado. Now I am watching the operetas on my cell phone on You Tube.
It's nice having an adult present a CZcams video for a change.
Thank you for posting
PS loved the play as well thankyou. Well done.
I have read the story. It's not the same as this play is the play a book at all?
As far as we know, the play is based on one of Gilbert's short stories.
Will the production get uploaded on CZcams?
Some clips perhaps
@@eastbournegands how about the whole performance if possible? I would love to view the whole complete performance.
Well done. Excellent all round. My favourite was the lady doing a patter-speed summary of the plot of "The Grand Duke" at the end. And I've learnt something useful today - sausage rolls go back at least to Edwardian times - and they even wrote a song about them !
Not bad.
Fantastic! I have stage managed this show, with Chichester Operatic Society, and not an easy show with the teapot effects. We had photo flashes in our teapot so it flashed and the 'Let us fly' chorus was a little faster - but this version is great fun! Loved the set! And you had a trap for JWW's demise!! I must look out for more of your productions, I enjoyed this.
Many thanks. We're doing Iolanthe at the Royal Hippodrome in Eastbourne this July. See you there!
The Japanese songs isn't about Britain imperialist coming to Japan?
The whole production is a thinly veiled comment on British society. The Japanese setting is purely incidental.
Thank you very much. Have been to your performances, wonderful! Myself a member of a G&S company in London. In fact, anyone who wants to study the English languge seriously, must get well aquainted with G&S operas as a study of the English culture and the language. Great stuff! Good luck to you all! ❤😊🤗
Thanks - G & S is one of Britain's finest exports!
I love Arthur Sullivan, having heard some of his other compositions. I understand his frustration with the GnS operetta though. Having listened to the entire catalogue several times to try and get a better understanding of it, I cant help feeling that his musical choices were restricted by Gilbert's busy, repetitive lyrics.
Was he also frustrated with his name coming second?
Richard's heart eyes were a nice touch!
I had to turn the sound up because I'm slightly deaf, but that's OK. I've recently watched "The Mikado" and "HMS Pinafore" and really enjoyed them. I wanted to know more about Gilbert & Sullivan's works, so put this video on. Next I'll be watching "Pirates of Penzance". I love the upbeat, satiric humor of these light operas!
This version is stiffer than it should be, given 140 years of practise to get it ship-shape. We see Josephine walks out but won't she come back for an encore? Please? Pretty puh-lease?
Ruddigore is my favorite Savoy Opera. To bad it's not known in my country.
The great Gilbert & Sullivan partnership ending in real-life over an argument over who should pay for a carpet sounds like a perfect story for a Gilbert & Sullivan operetta.
A great introduction but not loud enough to understand the speakers. Pls fix that, and you will have a marvelous presentation. Mahalo & thanks, Pu'ukani
That was fun!
it would have been perfect if they were replaced with three burly gents who would sing in falsetto ....me being one of them. just a boyish fantasy i have
How lovely!!!! xxxxxx
Pour or pour the pirate's sherry..... Been the General and a pirate elsewhere.
The other day I encountered a young woman who protested to me, "Don't you remember me Jim. I was one of your daughters in Pirates". In my own defense I had over twenty to thirty or so of those young daughters during various performances. It was exceeding difficult to keep track of all of them.
Once again greetings from "the Infernal Pinafore". Break many a leg my dear cousins there in the UK. I wish all you all great success with the Pirates, i.e former legislative peers, the Major General and his very numerous daughters.
Many thanks!
For today our pirate 'prentice Rises from indenture freed; Strong his arm, and keen his scent is He's a pirate now indeed!
Greetings from the infernal Pinafore.
"Why do I sit here? In order to escape the pirates clutches I described myself as an orphan! And heaven help me I am no orphan!!!"
I own a major general costume. It even has a Victorian pith helmet.
Greetings.
Greetings from the "Infernal Pinafore". Full disclosure I've performed as the Major "G" previously. But don't let that get around. Nevertheless, break a leg.
Hello and welcome!
Very well produced documentary.
Anyone know where I can find a traditional Sir Joseph Porter KCP Jacket, i.e. a diplomatic styled tunic, for a song? I'm trying to ace an upcoming audition.
Huzzah for this because "Well done" seemed insufficient praise.
