I have played Eve for almost 10 years with several breaks (I guess I actually have played for little more than half of this period). Everyone's endgame differs, for example I can't fly caps and I don't want to fly caps, for me it's rather boring and generally boils down to who can bring more. I have most fun exploring wormholes and mapping connections so that my corp or alliance can strike easily into the middle of enemy territory. If I get rich doing that (relic and data sites) then all the better. Hunting for a fleet is super fun, bubbling the entire enemy fleets on the way to a big engagement is so satisfactory, couple of times 3-people strong squadron managed to make a 250 people strong fleet completely miss the battle! Spearfishing with command destroyers, stopping BLOPS on the enemy, tackling nanocruisers with MJD Bhaalgorn, so many cool things to do!

Great video from whs with love 🍻

  • @YoutubeStupidBullshit

I started a new character when you uploaded your second video, just to see how the new player experience worked. It took me forever to get into a Battleship when I first started. My alt is finishing up the gunnery requirements to get T2 weapons once that's finished I will train Large guns to 3 or 4 then train the battleship skill to 4. I've been mining resources and running L3s to get the components to build it. I trained this character in science and industry. It can mine all the ores and Ice. It would appear if you know the aspect of the game you can skip all the other parts and "rush" to an end goal. As for your ship of choice, I love the name, it's a nice tanky boi and great with pulse lasers, I fly the Apoc and have it built for sniping. But my all time favorite is the Armageddon, I think it is the best looking ship in the game, I'm a drone player and I very much enjoy energy vamps in PVP, I still hate that that nerfed it to hell though.

My wife and I are new players. ourselves. Having only played about a months some. In another game we play. We are vets who help new players get a start. Like Eve it is a very niche game with a steep learning curve. The advert of 'this game, you are not ready for" is a warning and not a challenge. I have seen a few posts of new player giving up because they thought or perhaps believed this game would be like say the star wars game or maybe the star trek game. Its not. This game is about taking your own initiative and working towards what ever it is you want to do in the game. There is the crux. The game holds your hand through the first twenty or thirty minutes. Gets you to the first station to start missions and then that is it. You have to be a person that can take things on your own imitative. One must be a self starter. There is a lot of things one an do. One has to manage expectations and understand it is deadly out there. Every time you undock you are agreeing to that danger. A player must be willing to accept the inevitable mistakes and the random things that will occur. Such as a ganker showing up in highsec. Trying to chase you down. Happened to my wife the other day. She eventually stayed docked and did a mission where she worked on a blue print. She eventually undocked and went back to mining. She is in a venture with the crap civilian rail gun. Barely adequate for the NPC pirates, but certainly not against a ganker. As for goals. Mining and exploring on the side. Maybe research as well.

As a bitter vet from 2007 on, I think it's amazing that there are still new players finding this old sandbox and figuring out how to use the tools. That's not a slight at all, but a comment on how relevant the game has stayed. That for me, is one reason I keep coming back. The Abby is a worthy goal. Good luck to you. The Paladin isn't too far off after that 😂

Best recommendation I can make for a new player is to try to find a good new player friendly corporation. Which can certainly be easier said than done especially not knowing what that should look like. An example though of what to look for would be as follows. #1 active in your time zone because you can’t learn if they aren’t online when you’re online #2 they’re active in multiple types of content even if you don’t think it’s something you’d be interested in. Even if you’re plan is to be an industrialist you should still learn fleet PvP and how to avoid being ganked #3 have some kind of hand out ship program for basic T1 ships. because that’s a major barrier to learning new things in Eve #4 normally the more organized corps have requirements such as auth to link discord or comms having this requirement is normally a good sign Then once you join ask questions, ask if people are doing whatever activity you’re interested in and if you can join. If you’re constantly getting ignored then go find another corp. Despite Eve’s reputation of having a toxic community more experienced players do generally like helping their newer corp mates and want to teach them because everyone was that guy at one point.

EVE Endgame for me Personally, was being able to Competently fly Triage/FAux, Effectively Anchor/Command my Corps Logistics Wing. I was Admin/Founder (only below the CEO) in a Mid-sized PvP Wormhole gang, we spent a few years operating out of a C6(WR), and that felt like our Corporations End Game, we could effectively defend our selves/engage in large fleet fights (Until the Russians/Krab People turned up). Our Space City met a fiery end after 2 weeks of immense fighting and it was wicked, we inflicted massive damage to Inner Hell and made the cost go even for their Bash efforts, the Laserhawks/Hard Knocks Cerb blob is what did us in in the end. That was 4 years ago and really the end of my EVE Career. I thank EVE for 10 Years of fun and introducing me to a brilliant group of international friends! Edit: Here's my video of the Armour timer fight, I'm not the best at videos but I gave it a go for EVE :) czcams.com/video/KAMg8Zq_f7s/video.htmlsi=EP4NzsVgNnRWTe26 I only ever really shared this among corp/friends but I think I'm far enough removed from EVE now to take critique on my flying :'D. I was supposed to be heading the FAux wing that night but my internet kept cutting out and I was shattered after a day of Recon as our Corps EU TZ Admin, so I ended up as an F1 monkey which allowed me to capture the fight from DPS Perspective. Our MO was to inflict the maximum possible damage to Inner Hell specifically, they had purged High Class Wormhole space and we were pretty much the last Bastion not under their Flag. A Plethora of other Corps came to our aid and we had 2 years worth of Legion Production stored in our Warchest (Our Rapid Light Legions got ~1450DPS/ 300K EHP in the WR) and we pretty much emptied it that night. I remember an HK guy making the "How many Legions? Yes." joke on a WH Discord Server afterwards :'D.

As for new player friendly cops, you should check our Catskull Cartel, they accept players with 0 so and help train them up with skill plans etc for mining, fw, PvP and have higher tier corps in J-space (wormholes) and Null space depending on what those members are looking to transition to.

As someone who has played since 2004 I find the longevity of Eve comes from the developers constantly bring in updates which change the nature of the game, moving the goalposts as it were. Even now I would never dare to call myself an expert on anything, but I can say I have had more experience in playstyle A as opposed to B and therefore am comfortable with whatever playstyle A is. I might even pass on some advice should I be asked. But people love to work things out on their own and that is a true Eve player.

And after all that... I'm still newb. Oh, and something that still gets me is that I pronounce Abaddon the way you do. But most of Eve players pronounce is, "ah-bad-den".

I would also add that that feeling of winning encounter in this game is no one near any other you can have in any other game. The time and effort put into creating content for yourself, tackling a hard encounter, the feeling of loss and success is just out of this world, making this game worth playing in the end.

To me, you start being a "new player" when you get confident with mid-level gameplay in your chosen niche. Literally, you're no longer new when you become "mid-level". For example, I consider myself a mid-level miner. I have a small fleet of high-level exhumers with a Command ship & a hauler. The catch is that I'd consider myself a newb again if I go to something else. If I switched to Faction Warfare, I'd revert to being a child again. Maybe not completely new, but I'd definitely screw up the easy stuff.

  • @AndyKauffman-ml3og

I don't think there is a time limit. 🤔 I have seen guys learn the game and know more than me in a matter of weeks. So i would say i judge what's a new player by game knowledge over skill points. Advanced players can always come down to the level of a low skill point player and have fun or help them out especially if they show promise into the future.
