Dawn Quick Release Vice
zhlédnutí 4,1KPřed 6 lety
Bought an old Dawn Quick Release wood working Vice and this was my process from tear down to restoration. I took my time, now I just have to build the work bench for it to go on along with its big brother. First time starting my rebuilt chainsaw. 1960's Canadien Power Machinery model 270. It was completely stripped and powder coated, and now brought back to life
3 Takes? Perhaps if you slow down a little, you look like you're really moving! 🤣🤣 Good job, great end product!
It would have been nice to have seen the flywheel puller at 0:58.
To fix the leaking 2-piece fuel tank, I'll have to go to the 1:33 mark. I might even epoxy coat the tank before I filter and gas it up.
Very nice video. I have just restored a similar Dawn vice but did not remove the paint as it is in good condition. Just be aware that pre-1980s - and this vice is much older than that - red lead paints were widely used. They were tough and did a good job protecting iron/steel from rust. Lead paint is toxic so you want to take care not to breath in or ingest dust. Dry sanding with power tools is not a good idea.
How do you get the twisting part off underneath the clutch drum sprocket?
Great stopmotion !!! I miss a homelite in my collection, this chainsaw seems to be very well built
Here is the most legendary saw ever made they were the toughest of them all
Chainsaw lore:
Great restoration and awesome video. Thought to ask if anyone has had to straighten the spring. Got an old No.9 but it seems to pull the worm drive away from the screw and down even when lever is not pulled.
sounds silly but is it in upside down? I bought a second one that some one had put together like what you describe. because the spring is under tension its a little harder to put in correctly
VERY COOL!!
Would you make a slower version?. I have an xl-12 with scoring on the cylinder.
That was beautiful
How did you remove the center on the other side
patience
How'd you remove the crud behind the flywheel etc? With a screwdriver?
yep easy with whole motor apart
@@danlewis1835 just adopted an older xl12, hasn't been run couple decades, might as well should do the same complete disassembly, it'll last another 60 yrs.
tough little things!
Thanks - I have the identical twin of this saw - even the paint wear is similar. I'm fixing a chain oiler issue so appreciate the breakdown.
I can't imagine how long it took to make this video. Awesome work! Thanks!
I long time, you can tell by the lighting jumps 🤣

Hi When the cord gets stuck out try giving the outside of the starter a light tap with some wood and it often unjams and recoils back in :) esp if its a Fair banks Morse
cheers mate, in this case the actual spring had snapped off its hook!
Dan! Skills coming outta your ears huh?!👏👏👏
cheers mate!

That is cool. And the fact that it was an old XL12 just adds to it.
I would PAY to have more of this on other saws. Do you have ANY idea how popular these vids would be?? Just fantastic help before tackling my xl12......more...more!!
if I find another saw I'll have a crack!

Good video helps me remember which bolt goes where 😂
Thank you for doing this. I have a few of these saws. I appreciate your effort.
Want another one!?
@@danlewis1835 I'm probably good! Thanks though!
Where did you get your carb filter for it? I’m in the process of rebuilding mine and I need a new filter ! Thanks :)
eBay, search for RK- 114HL I think
Thank you sir like WOW i needed this i just got one for 30 bucks in perfect shap
Nice! That was about the same as mine, just dirty, if you need help putting it together just play it backwards 🤣
That was super cool. Wouldn't mind seeing more of these for saws at all, nice work.
Thanks so much this helped me get past a certain point in disassembly
So i have a question you pull the wire out from coil or what cause i can't clean it while haveing it their hanging
As in the return spring for the pull start?
@@danlewis1835spark plug wire on ignition pickup I seen you pulled it out and passed the wire through the case
Yep just pull it off the Magneto
Hi I just got the exact same lathe and I'd love to know how old they are ? Also I need a few bits but ebay isn't great maybe you know some websites ? Fantastic rebuild you did !
They are old, probably late 1800s, lathes.co.uk is a good resource. Parts you'll have to make yourself! Too old and too niche for second hand or reproduction
@@danlewis1835 thank you so much !
My saw
I cleaned my freakoutly yeah
Thanks for your effort. This was great to watch.
Thank you!
Had to watch it twice, and shared it with an engineer friend. Really cool. Thanks for the video.
Thanks Mike, just have to put it back together now
Sweet, love it.
