During antiquity, a Roman city called Emona stood in the area. The city was first mentioned in the first half of the 12th century. It was under Habsburg rule from the Middle Ages until the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1918. After World War II, Ljubljana became the capital of the Socialist Republic of Slovenia, part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The city retained this status until Slovenia became independent in 1991 and Ljubljana became the capital of the newly formed state.
The city's symbol is the Ljubljana Dragon. It is depicted on the top of the tower of Ljubljana Castle in the Ljubljana coat of arms and on the Ljubljanica-crossing Dragon Bridge (Zmajski most).[26] It represents power, courage, and greatness.
Ljubljana Castle (Ljubljanski grad) is a medieval castle with Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance architectural elements, located on the summit of Castle Hill, which dominates the city centre.

The real name is "Marburg" (there is another town in Germany by the same name en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marburg) and it was german through and through. At the end of WW II, 12 (twelve) million germans had to flee or were horribly expulsed from : Poland, Tschechoslovakia, East Prussia, Silesia, Hungary, Yougoslavia, Romania.
Maribor was first mentioned as a castle in 1164, has a long and varied history. At different times it was part of different states. Thank you for watching!
