About White Oaks
I got some White Oak acorns from Chicago and planted them. It took over a year for the conditions to be right but some of them finally came up!

Bur Oaks
zhlédnutí 14Před 12 hodinami
Last fall we gathered a bunch of Bur Oak acorns. I separated them good from bad by putting them in water and throwing away the ones that floated. a bunch of them came up this spring. Now I have a bunch of tiny Bur Oaks growing in my lawn. The rest of them (the 'good' ones) got planted along the fence lines.

Cattle eating weeds
zhlédnutí 398Před 21 dnem
Just a short with some cattle eating 'weeds'. They are not weeds if the cow eats them and they provide good nutrition. Cattle love burdock. Burdock has a long root and pulls nutrients from deep in the soil to the surface. The same is true for many 'weeds'. A weed is there because it is fulfilling some purpose. I don't know what most of those purposes are other than to cover the soil and help he...
Comments on grass being trampled and what it does for the soil
zhlédnutí 857Před 21 dnem
We have WAY more grass than we need this year. The cattle are trampling most of it. Since it is trampled it will become carbon in the soil. This is a good thing and will lead to the soil being more able to produce grass in the future. I would rather it go through a cow on its way to the soil, but this method of increasing soil carbon is just fine.
creek bottom pasture and looking for a missing cow

The cattle had been in this section of pasture and one of them was missing so I went down there looking for her. Found her shortly after this video ended. She was lagging behind the herd and got left behind, not a good sign. She had been hauled in a truck about 10 days before this from the farmer I bought her from and had 'shipping fever', a disease brought on by stress. She had not been vaccin...

Baby skunk digging for grubs

We have a family of skunks near our farm buildings. I don't mind them at all. Caroline doesn't like them at all. I have cut way back on the cat food. In the meantime, the skunks are more active and this one is digging for grubs along the edge of the shop building. Pays me no attention at all even though I was about 5 feet away from him. My viewpoint on skunks is they won't bother you if you don...

Was out moving the cattle to some new grass and the dairy heifers wanted to come over and say Hi. Just shows how friendly cattle can be if handled on a daily basis from when they are babies. I wouldn't expect this from any cattle raise out in the wide open spaces and with no familiarization with people.

A few smaller trees hanging up off the ground and sort of tangled up with each other. While they were smaller, they were still dangerous. A 500 pound tree will do only slightly less damage than a 5000 pound tree. At one point I misjudged what the tree was going to do after it was cut and it almost landed on my knee and ankle. Luckily it was small enough so it caused no damage.

    Nice genny. I had thought about doing something like that, but back in 2023 we were down 4 days in a row down here in Louisiana, and by the end of day 1 there wasn't a drop of gas anywhere. I wound up just biting the bullet and getting a 24kw whole home stand by that is connected to natural gas. We just had our first major outage of 2024 with Beryl and i ran for 2 days whole home no issues. About 35$ of NG for 2 days...well worth it vs the cost of a hotel and losing all my food.

      @northpasturefarmsgrassfedm2820 Před 3 dny

      Yeah, I have been thinking of switching to Natural Gass also but that would entail getting a whole setup with a tank, etc. That would entail a bunch of other costs and the genny would need to sit in one place. I need to be able to run it around because it will sit outside when running. My current plan is to get about a 200 gallon gas tank and then run my vehicles out of that tank also so that the gas never gets old. We haven't had a major outage for 2 or 3 years so we are about due for our next one. We get a tornado in the neighborhood about every 20 years and an ice storm about every 10 years. Both have been happening more frequently though... I think I will go with the gas tank for now.

    11 hours of runtime on 17 gallons of gas. Good luck with that.

    • @northpasturefarmsgrassfedm2820
      @northpasturefarmsgrassfedm2820 Před 6 dny

      Yeah, it will probably be less run time on that much fuel. But it sure beats being totally out of power! I will need to get a big gasoline tank around here, for sure.

    It can run for 15 minutes until you need to refill the tank(joke). You should put in a 500# propane tank and add a motor snorkel. I have a smaller westinghouse. Its been great. Can run 10 days 24/7 from that 500# tank. Good luck. Great machine

    • @northpasturefarmsgrassfedm2820
      @northpasturefarmsgrassfedm2820 Před 19 dny

      Thanks for the data! I will think about it most of the time our outages only last a day or two. If the end of the world happens, 500 gallons won't last long enough and I will have to figure out something else to do with all my frozen meat. No worries.

    • @Samlol23_drrich
      @Samlol23_drrich Před 19 dny

      @@northpasturefarmsgrassfedm2820 same with us. We just happened to buy a house with a pool and buried 500# propane tank cause there is no natural gas in our area. Now if you have piped in natural gas it can run forever. When I got my Westinghouse (only 12k), I went online and I think the company is called US Carbeurations. It’s basically a regulator you mount on the generator frame and a thicker gasket that sits between the carb and intake that replaces the oem gasket. The gasket has a tube mounted through it that feeds the propane from the regulator into the motor. Very cool idea and easy to install. I’ve been running it for 10 years until I needed a new generator because mice ate through the wires in my old Westinghouse. The new one runs on propane or gas already but the motor snorkel is better cause it has a way to prime it. Anyway good luck and great machine you got. I. Jealous.
