CUBA: The Nation Shamefully Frozen In Time
CUBA: The Nation Shamefully Frozen In Time
In the 1950s, Cuba was a vibrant and prosperous nation known as the "Paris of the Caribbean." However, the Cuban Revolution of 1959, led by Fidel Castro and Che Guevara, marked a turning point. By 1961, Cuba declared itself a socialist state and aligned with the Soviet Union, leading to the nationalization of businesses and severe economic regression. Innovation was stifled, dissent was silenced, and the nation became isolated. The collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 plunged Cuba into a severe economic crisis, known as the "Special Period," marked by extreme shortages and hardship.
As the world advanced technologically in the 21st century, Cuba remained trapped in a time warp, with outdated infrastructure and a stagnant economy. While global innovations such as smartphones, social media, and electric cars became ubiquitous, Cuba's state-controlled economy hindered significant progress. Although some economic reforms were introduced, the benefits largely remained out of reach for ordinary Cubans, who still live amidst the relics of the 1950s. This documentary critically examines how socialism led to Cuba's stagnation, highlighting the broader consequences of excessive state control and lack of economic freedom.

The "perfect harmony" thing was just too much. Your intro is too rosy. Not watching the video.

Nelson Mandela was a fraud who sold South Africa out to global capital in exchange for nobody being punished for apartheid. TRUE STORY.

Lies upon deceit upon lies my friends. The true story is that the protest was planned by the ANC, but the PAC copied them and did it a few days earlier. This made the ANC angry and they started attacking PAC and soon it was a riot. They were running around smashing cars and attacking each-other. They were already burning each other's houses down and killing each other before the police shot anyone. Which brings me to my second point: DO NOT THROW ROCKS AT THE POLICE STATION. When thousands of people are throwing rocks at you, you can die. LISTEN TO THE POLICE WHEN THEY TELL YOU TO GO HOME. Was it right for the police to open fire? Maybe not but it had nothing to do with politics. And let's not forget: Many of the police were black. My father was deployed to Sharpeville as part of SADF. He said the army were intentionally not even given any ammunition and as a Saracen driver he was instructed to keep the vehicle in a low gear to make as much noise as possible and scare people away. It had nothing to do with racism and only has a small link to politics because the riot was between rival political groups.
