Great Video. I really appreciate how you speeded up the video, and talked about marking the batting next time so you know where not to spray! You were precise and to the point which I truly appreciate! Now I'm off to the garage to spray for the first time!
I hope that your basting session went well!!!
Good morning! I couldn’t agree more, the finished quilt you showed is absolutely lovely! From the quilting to the color choices, yay scraps, have made for a thoroughly charming quilt well done 👏🏻👏🏻 your mandalas are wonderful!, I may have to do as you and make a few. Thank for sharing your thought process and how you tackled the projects!!🌹
Thanks Carolyn. I am really having fun with my scraps this summer and the mandalas are a perfect break from piecing!
This is a very good solution on piecing with accuracy. Thank you for sharing this tip.
You are welcome. I have done this for years and it seems to work!!
Thanks for this tip!
You are very welcome. I hope it helps your piecing accuracy!!
Thank you
You are welcome!!
That is exactly what I needed to learn. Thank you!
You are very welcome. IF you have a design wall that is larger than your quilt, you can also baste it vertically. Check out this video.....czcams.com/video/SOEAiroiT-c/video.html
great informative video.. thank you!
You are very welcome. I hope that all of your geese fly straight!!
Is it blurry or just the camera?
Thank you, looking good!
Thanks Jeane!!
Does anyone have the pattern for this quilt? It’s so pretty ❤
I am sorry that I don't have the pattern. It was made by our guild charity bee!!
I couldn’t understand which side she didn’t choose. She said it was the piece with the… I listened multiple times and couldn’t catch it. I give up. As I generally hand piece and I’ve never had a problem with inset seams, the whole thing is moot.
Hi Fran. I am so sorry that you couldn't understand me.....it's that Texas/Georgia accent!!! I was saying that the first seam that you sew is the one that does not have the seam allowance pressed to it. Hope that helps to clarify.
Oh Francis, I love your classes. I'm hoping you have intentions to go back to the free motion circles. Missing them.😊
Hi Leah. I am so glad that you enjoy the videos!! I am planning to return to the Mandalas, but this month has been VERY busy with traveling, Thanks for the encouragement!!
Wow!! Thank you!
You are welcome. I hope that it helps!!
This is exactly what I wanted. Thanks.
Hi Karen. I am SO glad that it is helping you!! Thanks for letting me know!
thx
I have ironed fabric to freezer paper and I’ve also used the premade sheets they are spendy!
Hi Karen. I normally buy prepared sheets when I can use a 40% coupon!! If I am only making one label, I cut that small section off of the label, leaving the rest ready to use another time. I have also treated my fabric with "Bubble Jet Set", ironed it to freezer paper and printed it that way. If I am doing a LOT of photos at one time, I will use Bubble Jet. Some people have printed directly onto the untreated fabric but I worry that it might wash out. Let me know if I can help further!!
What type of fabric did you use for the text part of the label? Was it a premade label sheet?
I am so sorry for the late reply. We were traveling and I didn't see the comment!! I use "EQ Printables" for the text portion of the label.
Thank you for sharing your lovely designs. :)
You are very welcome Jeannie. Thanks for watching!!
I 100% agree with the grippy comment. I have Amanda Murphys baptist fans rulers. Even though they have a coating that keeps them from slipping I added Grippy and it made a huge difference. I tend to do curves from side to side vs top to bottom. That allows me to keep fingers from both hands on the ruler to have better control.
Thanks Maureen. I have now purchased a can of Grippy to try it out!! I do like the idea of going side to side but sometimes my machine gets cranky and wants me to go top to bottom!!
I tend to push the ruler too hard against the foot and have a similar problem of pushing the ruler out of position. I have to concentrate on pressing down on the ruler, not pressing against the foot. I recently tried using Grippy spray on my ruler which works great for me and stops the ruler from sliding on the fabric. The Grippy works better for me than any stick on tapes or dots I have tried.
That is EXACTLY what I am struggling with!! I have never heard of Grippy spray but there is a can "winging" it's way to my house as I type!!! Thanks for the suggestion!!
Love this mandala! Your tip of not worrying about how many petals is essential…just relax!! After all is t that the idea behind a mandala? Think I might just make one, or more 😊 Beautiful work 👏🏻👏🏻💐
I am so glad that you are enjoying them. I sure am having fun!!! I hope that you do make some for yourself. Please send a photo when you do!!

Great idea and process! Thank you for sharing!
I am so glad that it helped!!! Thanks for letting me know!!
This type of improvisational quilting works well on the digitally printed Hoffman panels (Dream Bigs). I've had a ton of fun with those!
I can imagine that it would be great on those panels. I have seen so many quilter's who struggled with those because they felt that it had to be completely planned before they started!
Thank you for a fun video. I love Karlee’s Graffiti Quilting. I hope your leak is resolved with minimal expense! 🙏🏻🤞🏻❤️
Thanks Terri. Leak was resolved with MEDIUM expense!! I am looking forward to trying this more during my summer quilting months!!
Beautiful! I love the effect this has! Thank you for sharing ❤
Thanks Terri!!
I think this is my favorite design so far. You are sew creative!❤
Thanks Terri. I am having fun and I hope it shows!!! Have you decided to join me yet??
Looking good! One of these days I’m going to give it a go! Thank you!😊
I hope you do Terri!! looking at it as a grid where you are just filling in the "squares" makes it so much more manageable
Does the marker dry quickly? No smearing problem?
Thank you so much for this challenge! I just happen to have a top with 12 sawtooth stars with sashing! I was really struggling to figure out how to quilt it.
I am so glad that it is helping you. I would love to see your quilt when it is finished!!
Brilliant
Great idea
I'm so glad I found your series! I recently started teaching myself to quilt my own blocks/quilts and just sewed up a star-like block to practice and wondered, how should I quilt this? You've given me so many ideas! My head is swimming with them now! I am anxious to see the next in the series. Thanks so much for a great set of videos!
I am so glad that it is helpful to you. I would LOVE to see your finished quilt!!
Loved this video - I did the exact same thing on my last label and decided I love this method!
It was certainly a good way to make a bunch at one time!!
Watched the video on your blog page. Love the last round! This mandala is looking beautiful. I like the lacey look!
Thanks Hestia. I agree that this one is so pretty. Now I have to get busy and design number 3!!
Thanks sweetie I keep forgetting when does the thread go in before or after I put the needle in the thingy 😂. And yes I used to just put that needle in with ease. After I kept thinking 💭 I could thread a needle with my eyes 👀 nope 👎🏼 wasn’t happening. I absolutely love this. I’ll probably be back again when I forget what goes first. I started to put the thread in the thingy first lol Got it now 👍🏼🤩
I especially like today’s design. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks Terri. I agree that this design is looking really good!!
Enjoyed this! Always up for anything mandala.
Indeed you do!! You were one of my inspirations!!
THANK YOU for showing us the mistakes, too!!!❤ This is honest demonstrating!!❤
You are very welcome. When I see someone who never shows a mistake, I feel like I am a REALLY bad quilter!! So, I would rather show it all and then also point out that it ends up looking great!!!
What I enjoyed the most in this video was giving oneself the grace of learning a new technique. Thank you for sharing the grace and explaining what didn’t execute exactly as planned and how to carry on in the learning process. I do have a question about the free motion technique. During the movement of the piece, and perhaps more noticeable doing circular work, do you physically feel balance or tension as you go from right hand or side dominant to centered to then left hand/side dominant? In my single experience as a novice, I became very much aware of good fluent motion when the pattern was on my right side (I’m right handed); however, as the pattern work became more centered to me or toward the left, I and the machine struggled. The machine won and the pattern suffered as a consequence. Do you notice this tension, as well? Is there better technique on a person’s dominant side? What I learned from you and the video: grace of learning and turn the work with needle down toward the side that works better for you…. and mark heavier than usual when learning! TY for the information.
Thanks for your comments. I definitely work better when I am quilting to the right, especially when I am using a domestic machine. the machine that I quilt these demonstrations on is a sit-down longarm and, since I have lots of room on both sides, I don't notice it as much.
Thank you Frances. I am going to enjoy this.
Thank you!! I am looking forward to it too!!
Nicely done!
Thanks!! I think that this is going to be a fun project!!!
New to this, what did you mark your pattern with? And how far apart are your circles? Thanks.
Check out this blog post where I give more details about preparing and marking the fabrics. My circles are 1-inch apart..... francesquilts.com/2024/01/05/lets-make-mandalas/ Let me know if you have more questions.
That second ones gives my mind fits too. I don't know why. My mantra is bump point, point bump. Thanks for the ideas. I love mandalas
Thanks for making me feel better about my mind!!! There are just some designs that I can't do. I have an entire quilt from an Amanda Walters challenge and I can NOT wrap my head around how to do it!! Maybe this summer I will give it ONE more try!!
Thank you very much for sharing. This is an ideal suggestion for ruler storage.
This method has worked well for me!!
Easy. I love it. Thanks for sharing. TX/PR
You are welcome Daisy. I can't wait to try it again and see where I can improve on it!!
Great I will give it a try. Thanks. Tx/PR✌
I hope that it works for you. It sure made my labels easier!!
Great wow
I bought a box of the red threader. This is the best threader I have used and inexpensive. I practiced on needles with a larger opening. Got the hang of the threader in seconds. Thanks
I agree!! They are so easy to use and SO cheap..... why buy anything else's!!!
Who is the red threader 's manufacturer . Does it have a name?
These were the ones that I bought.... amzn.to/472Ch8K
