Don't forget to change the carburator bypass solenoid as well, the one that blocks the air flow for idle once your turned the ignition off. ;-)
Oh I disabled that before I installed the carburetor 😂
How about the other side? Is it wobbling as well? Great to see you working on this great old car! 🤘Thanks Taylor!
Hey Taylor, Mike from Mike Fn Garage claims that single cab is painted in a rare color 'Postal Yellow.' He says had to be special ordered, and not many around at all anymore.
It’s not. It’s Turkis. M plate confirmed.
@@wickedwerks That's right, you mentioned that earlier. Damn, thought it might be a special rare find. My mistake. Doesn't matter, still love a single cab!
Boa tarde onde posso encontrar esse ponteiro em acrílico???
Having never messed with a bus. I wonder if the little voltage drop domahicky that are in a lot of beetles would work? Dropping the 12v down to 6 specifically for the wipers ?
What a cliffhanger! Did the gauge work when you filled up?
Reads 3/4 when full 😂
@@wickedwerks Ha! As long as there’s still 1/4 left when it shows empty it’s a handy reserve…
Fuel gauge and wipers - I recently did that on a 1965 sedan. Surprisingly complicated, for me anyway.
6v gauge on 12v will often read low. On mine full is full but 1/4 tank will read empty. Wipers are great on a bus. They do a wonderful job of smearing the water around. haha
I think a little grease on the wiper motor gears could only help the noise problem.
There is a big VW car show this weekend in Sacramento Ca. I will see if I can find. I was told it might take a few transmissions to build one. Thank you! Plus I heard the tools to work on split cases are hard to find.
Yes. The large gear attached to the axles
This is called the ring gear. If you can find a replacement, you can replace it. Though I am unsure of the procedure to do so.
So where's your buddy Ben?
Now every time it rains it’s gonna sound like you’re making margaritas. 🍹
Those flames are über-awesome-killer-bitchin’-far-out-super-groovy-cool, man!
You're evil. The yellow is going, what a shame. The good thing is that wiper motor is going to drive you nuts which is payback for ruining perfectly good duco. Honestly though I do hope it quietens down.
Blessed, you are! Split single cab is every VW persons dream! Sweet machine, brother! Love the channel, i watch all the videos. ✌️
Great video 📹 👍 👏 👌 🙌
If you’re keeping the MG logo, does that mean I can order overnight delivery for the GT? 😉
You can certainly order whatever you want, but no promises considering it takes 2-3 business days for the Scab to reach highway speeds 😂
Not gonna fix that small hole under the tank? You know, put a little Por-15 patch on that pin hole. I’ve seen things fall off your bus before..but a fuel tank could be spectacular!
With any luck, soon 😂 I want to do it right. The entire floor needs to be replaced and I just don’t have the money for that right now. Hoping maybe over the winter.
Shame
Love this car so rare , make her put in the hours 😂
Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the video.
My 79 doesn’t like hot starts. Fuel injection seems to flood it. Hold the pedal to the floor and it starts right up. I’ve heard about unplugging the 5th injector during summer.
Why the hate for the super?
shut up
^ what she said
I have a 58 split case I need to rebuild. I know parts are hard to come by, how do I tell if gears are still good or toast? Thank you!
Unfortunately, I don’t know either. I would imagine if the edges of the teeth on the gear; where it meshes with the slider are all chewed up or worn down; it’s probably toast.
I am not sure what gear it is, but the biggest one in the whole case is the one with the gears broken off. Can I just replace that one?
@@jshippey do you mean the ring gear? That the axles attach to?
1968 = 1500 same deck lid and I believe same transaxle. I owned both years.
hammering a new bearing into place, really.
If it can’t handle a few light taps with a hammer, it shouldn’t be on the car.
@@wickedwerks And when they are hard to fit on the shaft ,hammer more, come on, teach the right way, or not at all. Bound to be new guys/girls doing this.
VW flat rate from those years? 1Time unit or 6 minutes.
Incredible work my mate you did a great job ! Your enthusiasm and ingenuity is brilliant to watch! Thanks for the update on the Crew cab 😊
Ah the memories! This was one of my first type 2 repairs. I too ran at it without much research. I performed this job outside in a non-level alley behind my work! Oh the frustration. I never did find that cover so just left that shaft installed, never got that bearing replaced!! Oh, and gear oil smell!!!
Najz đoob
I've got a 64 bus and had to open up a gear reduction box a couple of years ago. It ain't for the faint of heart if you haven't done it before.
Dude....Get yourself a repair manual.
I don’t need one now, I’ve already done it 😂
"Brute force and ignorance", the name of my next build.
That was ugly....
Split buses are a different breed. That's why us owners walk around with our noses in the air.
I do suddenly feel like all other VW owners are beneath me 😂
Takes me back to working on a bug pre internet.
The BUS-MAFIA rides again!!!
Gear oil in the transmission is likely low. Usually the reductions will get oil from trans if they leak. The outer bearing will not last as long as the correct roller bearing. The correct bearing is a little expensive though. Good thing is it can be changed without disassembling if it becomes a problem. :)
18:30…again, just suggesting. Not try to critique. It’s been my experience not to use anything with silicone. Ultra grey, I thought at one time was great. Until everything I sealed with it. Leaked. I now use Permatex aviation sealant for everything. Try it once, you won’t go back. Just came in from the garage with a wet rim on my 67….sure enough, leaking from the gasket, I assembled with ultra grey. I fixed it with a new gasket set and aviation sealant.
Love your videos. Just a word of caution from an old guy that taught me. 2:18 …sit your knees on a piece of foam, or cardboard. And don’t put your legs under the car. And Use more than one jackstand, or whatever. So if one fails….yeah… I’m not trying to critique, …..we’re all in this together. Thanks for the video.
It’s cool to watch people work on vehicles that I’ve always wanted, but never had. I’ll never get sick of watching you work on any of these old cars keep up the good work and great videos.
Thanks for watching!
It's good you make things hard for yourself. Makes a good life lesson hahahahaha. Keep the yellow!
I’ll never make this mistake again for sure 😂 I WILL NOT KEEP THE YELLOW
Enjoyed your recovery. Sources you provide help to short cut the part replacement process and help the parts suppliers provide the proper parts instead of shipping things back-and-forth. Enjoy your bus. I think you’ll find out you prefer this to be your very special vehicle for anything you do. I enjoy my three different single cabs that do various jobs for me. Jim in SC formerly Cranston, RI. Connecticut in the summer.
😬😎
Thank you for sharing your struggles and i feel your pain when i was younger i worked in my dads shop and there were no repair or as i call them reference manuals to work from so I struggled alot but i am here today 55 years later to say i use the reference manuals alot less and suffer thru my learning experiences all by myself, you at least share it with all of us! Good video, keep up the fight to keep these special breed of vehicles on the road! I am dealing with 2000 and 2013 Bugs with their own issues with part quality.
I felt your pain. I had to rebuild mine because the previous owner broke the spring plate bolts in the rgb. Then, welded the spring plate and rgb together. The rear plug is reusable if you dont hack it up and use a little rtv around it before you put it back in.
If you don’t hack up it 😂
I was laughing I’m sorry. They are pigs the first time!
Sometimes we learn more by just diving in.
That’s usually how I prefer to learn but I did this a week ago and my shoulders STILL hurt from using that damn slide hammer 😂
