    • @Kelly_Tillage
      @Kelly_Tillage Před 5 měsíci

    What kind of tillage do you recommend to prep a fallow field for planting pasture that will deal with weeds without herbicide?

    • @Kelly_Tillage
      @Kelly_Tillage Před 8 měsíci

      Hi Lance. The correct approach to your field would depend on soil type and the condition of the field. For removing weeds or working with heavy soils, we'd recommend a sharp-edged Disc Chain such as the K4 or the heavier CL2. For creating a level planting surface and incorporating organic matter into the topsoil, we'd recommend our highly durable CL1 Disc Chain. A combination could also be used, such as fitting K4 on the front chain set and CL1 on the rear. If you're interested in discussing further, feel free to reach out to our team. You can find our contact details on our website: www.kellytillage.com

    • @Kelly_Tillage
      @Kelly_Tillage Před rokem

      Hi Hendrik, thanks for your comment. K4 front and CL1 rear is a popular combination for seedbed preparation. Bouncing or skipping on the chains is usually a sign that you need to reduce working speed. Swapping your rear K4 Disc Chain for CL1 may help to overcome this issue, but it would be best to speak with our reps to find whether this is the right fit for your conditions. If you contact us be email (sales@kellytillage.com) and describe your issue in more detail, we'd be happy to recommend a solution for you.

    • @Kelly_Tillage
      @Kelly_Tillage Před rokem

      @@hendrik1636c K4 is primarily intended for enhanced weed control, especially in loam soils. It's also ideal for managing residue - the sharp disc edge slices and chops standing stalks, leaving them on the surface to break down more quickly. You might use K4/K4 instead of K4/CL1 if you were dealing with heavier crop stubble or weed control.

      Thanks for your question, Pochon Julien. Certainly the machine will work in dry soils, although results will of course depend on the nature of the soils and the job being done. For processing residue, the disc chains are very effective regardless of soil moisture. Their extremely shallow working depth (2-4cm) reduces the potential for damaging the soil structure. In dry soils with a heavy clay content, the discs will of course penetrate less than they otherwise might.
