Keep Moving (Parts 1 and 2) - Doug Fisher And His Original Arcadians Band - Teledisk 1948

This is definitely up there with the scarcer sides around. Teledisk were a custom pressing label, where for a small fee, you could have a number of sides pressed. The quality of the recording isn't brilliant, but the band does get better on the second half. Composer Lawrie Brewis also recorded this "Keep Moving" selection on the HMV label as a private pressing in 1935. There's some connection t...

Ern Pettifer was an Australian clarinet virtuoso who had a sort of Boyd Senter-esque sound. Hoagy was/is a true American treasure.
I had to do a double take when I played it expecting something from the late 40s!!! It's a pity they weren't still playing like this in 1948 but tines change. This is much more my style and period. Nice to hear music performed by other bands! Thanks for this. Lovely!
What do you mean by a "custom pressing label"? And what could you press? Did you make your own, private recordings a studio, and then have them pressed on this label? Or what?
@@jourwalis-8875 they will have paid for a handful of sides like this - maybe 25 or 50. These weren’t sold commercially but were sold to the artist for them to sell on
The company was formed in 1934, by ex-Columbia records, recording engineer, Cecil Nixon. They were based in Crewdson Road, SW9 in London. They recorded and pressed the record for you at the rate of, 12 @ 5 shillings each, 25 @ 4s each, 50 @ 2s 6d, each, 100 @ 1s 8d and a halfpenny each, and 1000 @ 1s 4d and a halfpenny each. You could sell them for whatever you wanted. They also began commercially made issues marketed through music publisher, Keith Prowse in 1935.
A fascinating issue - I'm just wondering if the composer/pianist Laurie Brewis commissioned it for potential backers, as it sounds like the score for a musical or revue, or some such. Nicely performed and played by drummer Doug Fisher & his Arcadians, who were a popular part of the Richmond and adjacent borough's dance band scene from 1928 - 1938.
Are Solex discs rare? How do they compare in sound quality to Sterno?
@@JustABowlOfCherries they’re uncommon but not rare. I don’t often see them :)
The people who bought these records must've been very confused.

Are the Kit-Kat's named after Jack's band?
@@alternateunreleasedshellac505 nope. Named after the Kit Cat Club which operated in London in the Haymarket
@@JonathanHolmesjazz so Jack Hylton named it after that?
@@alternateunreleasedshellac505 no the club was a separate establishment and Jack Hylton provided the band which was led by Al Starita. There’s a good write up of the club here: www.jazzageclub.com/the-kit-cat-club/1564/

A great charleston beat, with drive and verve, wonderful.
Brilliant I want this at my funeral to raise a smile❤

This is wonderful.
A tune which is usually performed as a sentimental and slow fox trot, gets a great swing treatment here. Lovely trumpet behind Fred's vocal, and the second half has superb sax section and solo work, and what a rough house close - glorious.
That was excellent. 😊👌
I think it’s the Hot Seven….no matter it’s still the greatest
There is also more famous Czech version with music video sang by Czech actor Miloš Kopecký: czcams.com/video/-s9gU4qs_Fw/video.html
Well played, but as a former bandleader I found that there was an optimum tempo for every arrangement. This isn’t it.
@@thardingau it is quite a bit faster than the most famous Bix and Tram rendition isn’t it
@@JonathanHolmesjazz Yes, it’s just too fast. Possibly at the request of the recording engineers to fit the arrangement on the record, but in that case the arrangement should have been cut.
Very clear sounding. Can't say much for the tune/lyr but the bridge is cool.
Pardon my naivete - in what way is this group "provincial"?
