    • @Jayoldstuff1

    • @davidedatri7557
      @davidedatri7557 Před 2 měsíci

      @@Jayoldstuff1 thanks for the reply! If I remove the battery the LED remains green but as soon as I try to turn on the laptop the LED flashes red and turns off immediately. So the problem is always the capacitors? Thanks again

    • @Jayoldstuff1
      @Jayoldstuff1 Před 2 měsíci

      @@davidedatri7557 @davidedatri7557 Pretty much yes. I've worked on a number of T1000 T1100 T1200 laptops and all have suffered from failing electrolytic capacitors. Its little wonder really, Toshiba would of expected a lifespan on these computers of around 10 years. Most are repairable its just a case of replacing the capacitors, cleaning and neutralising the leaked electrolyte with a mild acid and repairing any damaged traces. Hope that helps you. Jay

    Spotted it was only picking up one of your ram sticks when you went in the BIOS! A lot of those e-waste laptops are perfectly fine, just the ugly result of early obsolesence of otherwise perfectly fine machines, more bargains for us though.

    Thank you for this series of videos, they brought back a lot of good memories which are obviously mixed in with the nightmares of tape loading problems. I owned a ZX81 from 1982 to 1983 and it was the computer I taught myself programming on. I'm still programming 40+ years later and still enjoy it now. I'm recoding some 3D bits and bobs I wrote a long while back, OpenGL 3.1 with C++. It's been a great watch seeing you revive and reanimate this poor ZX81, and what a great way to end the series - 3D Monster Maze! I swapped 3D Defender for 3D Monster Maze with my cousin who found it too scary :D Mazogs is also one of my favourites, the forerunner to Maziacs on the Spectrum.

    Useful video, thanks! I this exact drive as well, connected to a Greaseweazle V4. There are a few manuals online for closely related drives that should help, just search for MF504. If you want to remove the latch lever and bezel, there's a cap that's snapped into the lever which hides a small screw, once the lever is off you can undo the two bezel screws and two latches to remove it. From there it's possible to remove the top half of the drive and get access to clean the entire diskette slot.

    This is an RF filter. They are in most PET and CBM computers. It can be like that, or it can be wired directly into the computer power receptacle. If you see a covered back on the plug socket, it's likely the one with a built-in RF filter. Replace the receptacle in that case. And if a separate RF filter, remove it entirely - it's not needed with a powerbar with an RF filter.

  • @MulticulturalRadio
    @MulticulturalRadio Před 5 měsíci

    RF Filter - remove it. It is usually the cause of issues - fails with a puff of smoke and stink. Then dead machine. Power today is cleaner and besides, most powerbars have built in RF filtering.

    A few points that come to mind. 1. The underside of the floppy drive touching a flat surface can cause the spinning stator disk to make contact. 2. You didnt actually boot the PC with either of the floppy disks so although one of them is readable it may not be bootable. 3. SW9/3 on the motherboard is for Floppy drive interface enable and should be set to ON. 4. Try another Floppy cable as it may have a break or bad contact pin. Looks kind of short also so make sure both banks of pins are fully connected to the cable and not just one bank. Would love to see this up and running.
