A beautiful sound. Does the marjority of those in the church understand German? Since the psalm is liturgically part of the Liturgy of the Word, and should be sung in the vernacular. There are plenty of other places in the liturgy for concert music.
A minority understands German. The translation is provided for those who do not. The Liturgy of the Word is often read in something other than the vernacular (assuming there is a clear vernacular). One only has to consider Latin Mass as an example. One can also consider the bi-lingual masses in Spanish and English, where one reading of the Liturgy of the Word is read in Spanish, another in English, and translations are provided. One can also consider Pope Francis' recent visit to the United States, where the Liturgy of the Word was conducted in multiple languages. Reply ·
