I have this same noise! currently replacing the hydraulic lifters, camshaft, and all TB components. I really hope that fixes the problem! so annoying. (ALH TDI MK4)

@@fireman1073 thanks, i suppose pistons had scratches? Mine tdi have same sound but pistons and cylinders looking good..
Is there any chance to save engine(clean piston rings, change) or need to change engine? How did you solve this repair? I have a same sound of my engine as your
maybe a rebore and oversize pistons but i replaced the engine, $650 from a wrecker yard

Hello, this sound could potentially be a forward or retarded timing. You can do this yourself, but you will need Vagcom VCDS, and some tools. I would also suggest you look at your power steering accessory and pulley, mine was mangled and was making a really bad tick when it wobbled.

nice ride... I just inherited the same car. was curious about the fuel accumulator - how did you know it was failing?
hard start when warm, the fuel must stay under pressure or the fuel vaporizes when hot making hard start, also the check valve on the filter must be good.
Theyre always grumpy when you first wake them up.
sorry about the poor audio, i filmed with the waterproof case on and it was my first video with this apeman a80 4k video camera. This is my vegetable oil centrifuge filter setup. It works very well, i use the oil for heating my garage with a clave waste oil burner

Steve, this is Peter. You can try Suntec A2RA-7737 pump if you want to use it mounted on the burner. It is made for waste oils. Use alternate port as an outlet and you can use pump's pressure regulator to adjust your oil feed/BTU output. Great vid.
