What's the Story Behind London's Frying Pan Alley?
Frying Pan Alley in Spitalfields is one of London's quirkiest street names... yet at one time, the name was very common indeed: in the 18th and 19th centuries, there were at least 18 Frying Pan Alleys dotted throughout London!
In this video, we'll be looking into the origin of the term 'Frying Pan Alley', and I'll also show you the approximate location of six other former Frying Pan Alleys which I've been able to find some evidence of.

Without reading every other comment: I would steer towards a combination of two people. The naming may well be officially entrenched with the commissioner, but there may well have been an order of magnitude more people thinking a popular boxer was the Real Big Ben. It's worth checking out the 3 bridges in West London and you can take in a nice circular walk that involves going through one of only 2 pedestrian railway level crossings in London and through the grounds of Osterley Park. I can recommend the channel "Adventure Me" as there's a 3 part series on Crystal Palace, what it was like when it was built, what it's like now and what remains of the original site.

I worked at the President Hotel next to the Imperial and across the road from the Hotel Russell. The President Hotel was a favourite hotel of many of the pop stars of the time. I was a waitress and served the Beatles and Brian Epstein, Freddie and the Dreamers and Garry and the Pacemakers. Cilla Black and her manager stayed there along with an American singer called Brenda Lee. The most outstanding person was Chuck Berry who was very difficult to please sending his steak back to the kitchen 5 times. Amazing to think my grandsons went to a concert of his within the last 10 years. Russell Square is one of my favourite places and I was lucky enough to stay in the Russell Hotel several times. It is very impressive.

@@tomservo_ Thanks. I appreciate your kind words and feedback, but to date I've been told I talk too slow, too fast, that my accent is too strong- and that it isn't strong enough- that I sound squeaky and, in a few cases, that people turned off because they couldn't bear to listen to me at all (all true examples). I guess it's all subjective and I can't please everyone. Hope you keep watching and stay well.
