Bees keep making brood and burn through their stores!
Honeybees are prone to leave surprises for the beekeeper, but this is a surprise i did not expect.
Bees keep working if the temperatures stay right well into october here in the netherlands, but usually they have stopped producing new brood by now. Date of filming: 30th of septembre. I would still expect too see some open brood every now and then, but not freshly laid eggs and in a full production pattern.
It is mindboggling what the bees keep presenting us with and that is exactly what makes beekeeping a fun and exciting job and hobby!

When to add more frames to a small beehive

Much of when to add frames to a beehive is a feeling you develop throughout the years. In this video i will show how i mostly give small hives more space. Good thing is when you are a bit too soon with adding frames the bees most likely will manage just fine. worse is when you wait way too long to add frames, it will really hold them back. Vraagje, waarom wachten als je nieuwe honing ramen gebruikt? Ik ben een startend imker en zal dit jaar dus in die situatie gaan komen. Super gave filmpjes trouwens 😊

    • @aBeekeepersLife
      @aBeekeepersLife Před 6 měsíci

      Hoi, dank je en fijn dat je de filmpjes leuk vind 😊 Kunstraat ramen moeten door de bijen eerst deels uitgebouwt worden voordat het moerrooster er tussen kan. Als je ramen kunstraat meteen boven het rooster plaatst 'herkennen' de bijen het niet als extra ruimte en gebruiken ze het niet. Als de bijen de ramen druk aan het uitbouwen zijn dan vormt het rooster geen barrière meer. Het is een wat ouder filmpje dus ik weet niet helemaal precies meer waar het precies over ging, maar afgaande op je vraag denk ik dat je dit bedoeld 😅 Als je iets anders bedoeld moet je het even zeggen dan kijk ik het filmpje zelf ook weer even 😊

    Off course it’s works, if it ain’t Dutch it ain’t much, btw they’re twice a year you’ve got all the drone cells out to reduce 90% off the varroa and don’t forget before the winter to give them some probiotics.

    • @aBeekeepersLife
      @aBeekeepersLife Před 9 měsíci

      It was really hammered in it would not work, although the reason why always sounded a bit far fetched for me. Giving probiotics isn't something that is a regular practice here, good pollen stores should be sufficient. In one of the next videos i do a before winter check and i noticed there were little pollen stores so maybe i should read up on my probiotics 🤔 I stopped culling drone brood, it is a lot of work and i think the bees should be able to deal with the varroa by now, at least until the first treatment after harvest. But culling works really well indeed, some beekeepers even get rid of all the brood at the end of spring and start up clean and fresh on foundation. Works really well too. Thanks for your continued support my friend, always nice to read your comments 😊

      I don't on my production hives. My breeding stock is checked regularly and then the decision is made to treat or not. Cool you make your own 👍 Big pro of formic acid is it also gets to the mites that are in the brood, oxalic acid doesn't do that. Big con is that is a way more intrusive treatment
