    Enjoyed your video of Laurel Falls Trail. And so you have met Arthur :D The hike to Bryan Overlook does include a rock scramble - i think it is fun. The trail is blazed up there - it is a little sketchy in places - especially just before the creek crossing. If there has been a lot of rain that creek can get mid calf or deeper. The view from the top is beautiful. There are 2 views. The first one is easy and on your right. If you follow the narrow trail past it, it will take you out to the other overlook. Happy Trails!

    @preacher1511 Před 9 měsíci

    Hey Amanda! I am having a blast going through all of your old videos and seeing so many places that I have been to myself. Don't know if you have been back to either of these two since this one but there is actually a lot more to see at both. At Foster Falls, you can hike alongside the creek at the top, cross over the creek on a metal bridge way upstream of the falls, and come back around to some excellent relatively flat hiking on the other side. Great views of the falls. This is also the southern terminus of the Fiery Gizzard trail, which is an awesome 13+ mile hike from Grundy Forest in Tracy City. At Greeter Falls, two things. Go during the week. During COVID, which is when you must have gone this first time, it became a water park. I can't stand that. But if you can get away during the week, it would be a LOT less crowded. Also, at the top of the falls, where the trail splits for upper and lower Greeter, you many have noticed a sign pointing to Boardtree Falls. It is only about another half mile down the trail and, on a day like this one, it will be flowing big. It is beautiful and there is a bridge across the top. Hardly anyone goes on down there and it is not hard. There are some ups and downs but largely flat in places. And when you get ready to leave, there is a short stair climb up the hill that is a shortcut back to the parking lot. You can actually hike all the way to Stone Door, if you wanted to. All along the rim, relatively flat, about 5 miles or so. Anyway, happy hiking, thanks for the awesome vids, and God bless.

  • @preacher1511
    @preacher1511 Před 9 měsíci

    Amanda, remember the whole top 5 list thing? This one, the entire hike to Virgin Falls, has always been in my top two. I know y'all did this two years ago so I don't know if you've been back but you need to. And go in the Spring when it has rained recently. Virgin Falls is amazing. Ironically, if you had kept going past Big Laurel, it flattens out for about a mile and gives you somewhat of a break, but the descent comes back significantly before you get to Virgin Falls. It's a total of 1,100' in elevation loss/gain. And it's about 8.5 if you just hike to Virgin Falls. If you add the loop to Sheep Cave and add Martha's Pretty Point, which is beautiful, it totals just under 10 miles. And your question about Big Laurel, I love that type of geology. I am also a caver so I don't have a problem with the sinkholes, unless they happen to be full of debris, LOL! I have always made this a day hike but I really want to overnight it. There are some awesome campsites. Besides the one at the creek crossing, and the one at Big Laurel, there is a big one at Martha's Pretty Point and several at Virgin Falls. Thanks for the great video, as always. I have never hiked out to Welch Overlook but it was beautiful. Very similar view at MPP. Be safe and God bless.

    Great videoing, Amanda. I am the same as you in that I keep a running top 5. From the first time I did this hike about 4 years ago, it has stayed in my top 5. Done it a half dozen times now, usually taking a buddy with me, and it isn't old yet. Right along the way, before you turn down the mountain, is Sewanee Natural Bridge. If you haven't checked that out, do it next time you go. Be safe and God bless.

    Amanda, I love this hike. If you ever decide to do it again, you were right at the Perkins Point overlook. It is not marked. The only way I knew where to look was I downloaded the map from AllTrails. When you came out of the pine forest, you circled left, climbing the ridge a little more towards that rock outcrop that you thought was the overlook. But the trail curves back to the right, then in a couple hundred yards, does a switchback to the left and starts a descent towards Little Possum Creek. It is just before you get to the switchback, off the trail 100' or so to the left. It is not very big, just an unmarked outcrop of rock. But you are looking due west into the western Smokies and the day you did it, you could see all the way to Tellico Plains. I went on to descend the ridge to Little Possum Creek, ascend the ridge on the other side, and in a couple more miles, descend again to cross Little Possum Creek, hike another 1.5 miles, and end up at Immodium Falls. Very beautiful waterfall. If you continue on the trail from Immodium Falls, it's about another 3.5 to 4 miles till you will come to the end at the Retro Hughes Road trailhead, however, there are no more steep climbs. That is a total hike of about 9 miles. But of course I was by myself and didn't stage it as a point-to-point so I had to turn around and hike back to the Heiss Mtn trailhead, over all those darn climbs again. That made the trail just a little over 10 miles. I felt your pain! But I love that trail. Next time, I will do it with someone and we will stage it as a point-to-point. I hate out-and-backs as much as you hate creek crossings.

    • @exploringchatt
      @exploringchatt Před 9 měsíci

      Yes! I can't imagine going from one trailhead to the next and having to go back because you have no second vehicle and driver 😅 all that up and down was insane! My friend and I would like to do it again and complete it as a point to point. Hopefully one day we can plan that!

    Amanda, you are so spot on about the confusion of all of these trails. I have hiked a good bit on Suck Creek Mountain and parts of it are confusing. Thanks to some friends of mine who got VERY turned around up here a few years ago, I did my research before the first time I did this trail. I hiked past Blowing Wind Falls to the junction of the Pot Point Loop, Cumberland Trail, Davis Pond Campground Trail, and the Mullins Loop Trail. I kept going straight for .8 mile to Davis Pond Campground, just to see what it was like. I won't do that again, not that much to it. Came back to the junction, turned north on the combination CT and Mullins Loop Trail to Snoopers Rock, then back to the trailhead on River Canyon Road, total of just under 9 miles. That junction is what messed my friends up. The signage wasn't as good when they hiked it and they turned south on the Pot Point Loop, instead of north. They hiked all the way to the other side of the PPL, turned right, and hiked uphill until they crossed Game Reserve Road. Not sure if that was Game Reserve Road, they backtracked and missed the junction where they came into the PPL. They kept going all the way down the mountain and ended up bushwhacking back to River Canyon Road, where they were able to figure out which way took them back to the trailhead. They ended up hiking about 17 miles and ran out of water and daylight. Hey, I would love to join you in a group hike sometime. You have done a LOT of the same trails that I have and you probably know others that I haven't found. Glad I found your channel. Be careful and God bless.

    • @exploringchatt
      @exploringchatt Před 9 měsíci

      Oh wow, that sounds like an absolute nightmare! Really planning and learning the trail map beforehand is key to a succesful hike. Honestly, I forget to do that sometimes, as my videos demonstrate, haha, but I always make sure to have a map with me too. I have a pretty good sense of direction which helps, but I know some people don't and get turned around easily. Currently I'm not planning any group hikes, but if I ever do, I'll definitely announce it in my weekly email newsletter first. On this subject, I know you limited this to three but I have to say, how could you leave out Snooper's Rock in Prentiss Cooper? Likely because you were focusing on showing the city, although it does to a certain extent. And I'll give you Point Park, although I love Sunset Rock just a mile to the south because it's basically the same view and less commercial. I would love to hike with you and any groups you might hike with sometime.

    one of my favorites as well. i like doing it best in the winter months when all the leaves are down and you can see farther. and it cools you off some after the ascent. i love the feeling of the cool air as you descent to the mouth of the cave after working up a sweat. when you enter the mouth of the cave if you go right and climb up the rocks you will exit out of Peters cave. Might be best to do that with friend when you do that, just in case you twist an ankle or something. You got a great picture at 6:36. Reminds me of a skeleton. Every time I get to that point I think, please dont let me slip and hit my tail-bone on that.

      Yes! It's amazing how cool it is at the bottom and in the cave. I didn't realize the two were connected! I need to go back and check that out! And yes, that rock climb down is scary!

    Never got on the Ocoee. Grandparents lived on the Hiawassee so i did that quite a few times. Wouldn't mind going back. I haven't been there in years. Miss those mountains.

    Hi Amanda. Thank you for the awesome info. I'm really excited to be visiting the area very soon, and my bike is making the trip with me! I wanted to get an idea about how long the trip out and back took you and your friend? I was thinking of adding the portion to Craven's house as well, but didn't want to take on more than I could handle. Thanks again.

      I can't remember for sure but I think it took us about 3 hours. As you saw though, I didn't alway ride, haha. It was about 9 miles round trip so depending on what type of terrain and elevation you're used to, you could maybe add on. The terrain is the roughest part, quite literally. But otherwise a fun trail that's not too difficult in elevation. For more info (in case you missed it) read my in-depth blog post about it: exploringchatt.com/is-this-the-secret-trail-of-chattanooga-bike-trails/

    What type of labels you apply on your white jars?

    • @exploringchatt
      @exploringchatt Před rokem

      You'll have to ask The Rustic House this question. All I know is that they print them right there to apply on site. I'm not sure about the black lettering on the side of the jar though.

    Where y’all got out at is where put in and yes it is private property I live in that neighborhood it’s a good trip

    • @exploringchatt
      @exploringchatt Před rokem

      That makes sense. This is definitely a tough spot to get out at! My second run (later that year) had us grabbing on to tree branches just before the bridge and pulling ourselves backwards to the ramp to get out. Not an easy exit at all and having someone to throw you a line makes a huge difference!

      @@exploringchatt it does make it harder people use to get out at two rivers camp ground but don’t do that they was bought and the guy that owns it no will not let you get out there he use to charge $10 but now he won’t let anyone out if tie a rope prior to going up or do it with the water off it will be a lot easier to get out there

    • @exploringchatt
      @exploringchatt Před rokem

      That stinks. Yes, I had planned to tie a rope when we left the exit vehicle there but we just didn't do it that time, haha. Will definitely do that next time!
