Firewood In The Field

Registrace 2. 02. 2024
I am a "firewood hobbyist." This channel is where I share aspects of this hobby, by showing how I produce firewood, and other general outdoor activities.
Moving Firewood with a Good Old Truck
In this video I am splitting two IBC totes of firewood and hauling them a short distance on my old log-hauling-truck (1967 Chevrolet C60).
I have not had a chance to use this truck in awhile, and while this was not much of a load, it was still good to have it running down the road a little bit.

HUGE Hackberry Splitting Day (part 2)

This video is a follow-up to my previous video where I am continuing to work on splitting some very large Hackberry rounds: (czcams.com/video/moYoOhvV1T4/video.htmlsi=KUqeWPu1X6Hq2UiP). This footage was taken the next day (6/5/2024). I incorporated some "lessons learned: from my previous day of splitting, but there is no way around it, these big knotty-rounds are hard work! HUGE Hackberry Splitting Day
zhlédnutí 174Před dnem
In this video I am splitting some large Hackberry rounds, most of them are 32" in diameter! I do struggle somewhat, as this is the first time I've used this splitter for vary large rounds. But overall I count it as a win because some firewood was made and nobody got hurt! You can see the logs I cut these from in some of my earlier videos: czcams.com/video/VCKICWqy5W8/video.htmlsi=Jin_Kb7Sq5xDxz...

She has her front hubs locked out! It's in 4-wheel drive high!. Do not get in her way braking is not an option!. LOL
@@FJB827 😆😆😆😁
Nothing like a good carbureted cold start! Automatic choke?
Manual choke. 2 Bbl Rochester carb
@@FirewoodInTheField manual chokes give you control for sure. The old Chevy seemed cold natured!!!
Will it flood easy??
@mrg52u11 not as long as I'm not bring goofy. Starts pretty easy most times. But that was a brand new (rebuilt) carb I had sitting on the shelf, one of the first things I had to fix
Great idea although I’m not sure why it would not use log tongs to grab the logs instead of the screw device.
It's not tall enough, at least not for the tongs I have. The next time I use it, I'll get some footage trying my tongs. I'll also look for a shorter set of tongs too. Thanks for watching!
Great video, Mahalo for sharing
67-72 we’re the best looking trucks. Awesome
@VicsYard I gotta admit I like this ol' Chevy.... Been a Mopar guy for decades,,,, but this truck is trying hard to change that!
Ole trucks a beauty. Using them is a must , to keep seals from drying. Ive got a '73 c50 on the farm. Shes fading fast. Gets corn fertilizer put on it😢😢. Rear brake cylinders are shot from sitting. Still runs good though. Got the 350 in it. Hire trucking of corn and soybeans done. It only holds 6 1/4tn, little over 5 legal.
@brandonhoad9033 Thanks! I bought this one from the original family-farn that bought it now in 1967. Only has 67,xxx miles! I had to completely re-do all the brakes, and replace the front tires/wheels. Also swapped the carburetor and un-did a bunch of farm-repairs. That headache rack is cut down from the original grain bed, and I've got plans to cut the grain bed sides to about 18" to give me sides on it
@@FirewoodInTheField it must have post holes on the sides. Some nice hickory or oak planks would be sweet Rack on mines a p o s, it's off a '49 Ford 😅😅. Even says Ford. I think it's got 72k on it. Folks bought it used around '77-79. Idk what it's first life was
@brandonhoad9033 yep,,, it has stakepocket holes where the grain bed sides used to be. When I haul logs I just stick 2x4s in them. Will eventually make short sides out of them though
Nice truck!
@@CH-um4iy thanks!!
If Iived someplace beautiful and quiet like that, I'd have the zoomies too.
Dang, that dog is super fast.
Boxers Pitties and Malinos All Crazy😂🤣💓💞
When this video came out, trading on Wall Street oddly stalled for a bit over a minute.
Nifty
Is that not the very definition of pure, unbridled JOY!
Somebody is very happy !
This is amazing, saves you time and easy on your body. Is it hand made?
@JCGCUCU nope. It's a brand of.log splitter called Ramsplitter. You can look them up online. They are located near Rockford IL, but can probably ship anywhere
@JCGCUCU Thanks for watching! In some of my other videos I go into more detail about this machine
Thanks for the great laugh this am. Sweet pupper
hello
Oh my achy back thanks you!
I enjoy working with the hack, they grow straight and tall here in iowa. I prefer to deal with them when it's cold tho, seems like they split better. Cut them green, split it frozen. I especially admire the smell
@tyharland1906 Thanks for the feedback! I'm behind on publishing, this was back in early June. I'll show in coming videos, I am splitting all that to clear a space for rearranging my woodyard setup
Howdy Matt, nice job on those big Hackberry rounds. Split some wood and got a workout in. 💪🏻🔥🪵
@thehogslogs8631 yessir!! Good way to work up a sweat and get some exercise!. Even with struggling still easier than swinging a maul at all this!
Nice
Ideal location and conditions 👍
Iam with you. I pull dead trees from my woods with my jubilee tractor . Each year there is always enough for my winter heat
most all the rounds we get are 36 to 48" diameter. tree service rounds no one wants. we just focus on noodleing the rounds with our big saws. its a lot of work but its what we love. keep up the good job.
@Stlforestproducts Thanks for the input! I'm only about 45 minutes outside STL in Jefferson County, are you nearby?
@@FirewoodInTheField yes we are desoto. Stl forest products
You can come by. We are a sawmill, Firewood. Chainsaw carving and everything logging company.
@Stlforestproducts I think I will! I'm interested in that bundle machine on your website! Been thinking of changing from bags to bundles
Your more than welcome. Contact info our address and phone is on site or Google business search of our company.
That one happy dog!
Yet another reason i dont cut over 18" unless absolutely necessary
@brandonhoad9033 understandable! I can get a lot of the big stuff free, and I'm a glutton for punishment, I suppose! 😂 I'll have a 2nd video splitting more of this, but it goes better.
Awesome dog round up your chickens haha!!! Enjoy your video and nice log splitter!!! Like how the ends move up and down to split four ways or two!!!
Good dog :)
Wow!
Nice set up
@@VicsYard Thanks!
I have some great memories in a truck just like that. We called it the “Greeny Beanie” it was actually yellow. Used to drive around the shop at about 10 years old. Great looking trucks.
@@VicsYard Thanks for sharing that! I've got a little footage using it to take some firewood to my inlaws.. probably 1 or 2 weeks before I get time to edit and publish
Best animals on the planet!
Lovely dog, just doing doggie stuff and making his Dad giggle ❤
Score!
😊
Nice I love cherry
Looks just like a heavy duty deer lift thru Walmart i was eyeballing for hunting fire wood etc. First thing id do is get a short handle log clamp and ditch that screw in gizmo.
@jimmieburleigh9549 I've tried my log-tongs, but they are so long I can't get the rounds high enough to get on the truck (unless it's small rounds. But then I don't need this crane at all) Good ides though. I'll look for a shorter set of tongs that can still open wide enough for large rpunds
@@FirewoodInTheField that or add a foot or 2 extension to the tower. I added on to my buddy's deer lift. His had the hand winch but same basic design
@jimmieburleigh9549 not a bad idea!
@@FirewoodInTheField make a straight cut where you want it with a cut off wheel and weld in a dutchman... quick easy work.

Very nice wood for a turner (lathe guy). I spent many years from 2000 onward turning many types of wood. What a great pile.
he will sleep good tonight
JOY.😊😊😊😊😊
It was a ways but helping out those you care about is a win-win. Keep cuttin'!
Nice what kind of wood
@@JasonLee-xn3se mostly Oak and Maple. There's I think 1 log that is something else
