So as a Buddhist let me explain why our Tamil brothers may have set such a rule banning foreigners from entering certain extremely holy areas of the temple. See foreigners come from all sorts of places and backgrounds and even you will agree that all are not well behaved, and well mannered in a equal way, some can be angels some can be ass holes. Buddhist or Hindu, All such holy places require certain level of body cleansing before even you set foot inside. Example as a Buddhist I don't even light the Oil lamp in the small shrine in my own house without first taking a shower and cleaning myself. When I could , its my damn house right, but I won't. Its a matter of devotion and respect. You cant expect that from all the foreign travellers, they may travel to a fish market or a meat shop and then visit a holy temple on the way. So rather than managing all these cases one by one in a country frequently visited by thousands of foreigners, the lack of manpower to manage all that may have resulted in such a general rule for all foreigners. (Hope that makes sense) Its not being Racist, its being respectful to the sacred place and being practical too . If some one kicked you out from a holy place for being a foreigner well that is racist. :) Peace.

Even as Sri Lankan I've noticed that Sri Lankans stare at foreigners like they want to suck the soul out of them hahahah And the buggers in the comment section are mad because introverts like this vlogger do not like it. Staring like freaks at tourists isn't a compliment. Hopefully once the whole of SL get used to foreigners the staring will stop. Pro Tip : When these guys ask personal questions go to town with some mad fiction you like. Tell your husband or partner is also here. He's a marine or works for the secret service. Troll the pervs and try to have some fun out of it. Or just ask them to leave you alone and they will not usually bother you.

The lack of cultural humility, empathy, or kindness that you have on display in this video is beyond appalling. Remember you are a guest in that country--you don't go to someone else's house and insult the host. You have a responsibility to learn about the country and its people before you travel. If you didn't want to be "bothered" by locals, you should have selected a destination that allowed you to enjoy that. Your behavior was incredibly inappropriate.

Really nice video 🙂 Dambulla is the main distribution center for Sri Lanka as it in in the middle of the country and both dry zone and wet zone vegetables come there before being distributed around the country, and it works 24 hours so called the sleepless city. I think if you tried to talk to some people a bit you could have good a good experience. they are staring i ges not because they want to harm you but, because you look interesting. And there is no harm anyone can do to you in public :-) And there are some people with very good knowledge about for e.g. places like Dambulla cave temple, and if you talked to someone before or on tour you could get much more understanding about these places and a better experience. And the videos are great none the less :-)

Hi Nat... There are places where stilt fishing happens for real and they start fishing around 5.30am in the morning and when it becomes hot they stop fishing as it is hard to bear the burning sun. I have many photos and videos of those, which I'm unable to share in this comment. And many of those places are not where tourists actually visit. Usually visiting these places happen in day time and it is the time the actual fishing does not happen, so some kind of staging is required for demonstrating what happens. Staged realities for tourism as you may well be aware is common in many touristic places around the world as most traditional methods are now being replaced by the new technologies which are more effective. And for some traditions, this could be the only way they would survive. So kindly have an open mind about these kind of things. Also, the only things you see does not wholly reflect what is real, so you need to get good advice and information from several local sources for you to get the real experience. So why not ask around :-). Do agree that there are many locals that are somewhat invasive but its partly to do with the culture also where the Sri Lankan culture is a more collective culture than an individualistic culture. So sharing some private information or getting close is the norm. That is how you get the best experiences. And if you are visiting Sri Lanka again and need information on Authentic places on what you need to do... wiil be happy to provide you with any details you need (service free of charge).
