Air boats go in water that is full of plants. They go on mud grass pavement if not to far and save lives by going on frozen lakes/ rivers where someone fell through. An airboat does not care if the ice breaks while rescuing search and rescue. A normal prop and would be torn to shreds in ice or water with ice and damage the motor and prop. Airboats in San Francisco Bay save some folks got stuck in mud when the tide went out. very usefull things every county should have. Almst as usefull as a helicopter.

I test drove one three different times back in '87 at a Buick dealership in Tysons Corner, Va. They asked me not to come back. They wouldn't finance me. I was 19. The car was incredible. How do I know that? I drove a '73 RS Z/28 with a '70 Vette LT1 motor/trans in it. I ended up getting financed on a '83 Grand Prix Brougham. The Buick GN was the car to beat back in the day. Nothing could touch it off the light.

Yes they are Aircat Airboats that were manufactured in Lake Wales, Fl. I rebuilt one with a volkswagan engine. Very solid hull and heavy. They were built for the military in the Vietnam war and were equipped with a turbine engine and belt drive prop and mounted a .50 caliber machine gun up front and ran the rice patty fields. Because they sat low the enemy could not see them as easily. Google them and you will find pics of helicopters bringing them in. I visited the shop were they were made and they had hundreds of military photos on the wall.
