We camp, we hike, we kayak, sometimes funny things just seem to happen to us, and we have two adorable Irish Doodles Telli and Tuck that come along for the ride! We'd always wanted to go see the trees at Joyce Kilmer in WNC. And this day we finally got to go when our friends Jess Stanley and Krystal came up to visit us at Smoky Mountain Meadows. Come along as we go see the biggest trees in the southeast found in the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest outside Robbinsville, NC.

It was the day of the Guest Appreciation Festival put on by the NOC which means for us paddlers it is Upper Nantahala release day! That extra water makes the lower run about 300 CFS bigger. That is the Aire Tater! I absolutely love it!
What does PFD mean?
In this case it means personal first descent. It was my first time down the Middle Ocoee! So PFD ultimately means First time down a river. However in kayaking sometimes PFD also can have another meaning such as if anyone is referring to gear pfd is personal floatation device…the life jacket. Hope that helps! 🤩🤩

Hey there! Max capacity for the S/M is 190. It does put you within range with the S/M. At the top of the range but in it. M/L goes to 250. I’d highly recommend demoing because everyone’s preference and paddling style is unique to them. I know Halie is roughly 5’5 160 and she said it fit her perfect. But I know one of the guys at the NOC is 6ft tall and probably 170 and he paddles the S/M. First looks: it’s A big boat. Swing by the NOC and try one out!!! It’s a phenomenal design! - Jes and Halie

Super video of the take-out, road up to the powerhouse and the put-in. The Hiawassee is very beautiful. Planning on taking a bunch of teenage girls on duckies this year. What’s the best side of the river to run in your opinion? Thanks for your video!
You are welcome. So sorry for the delay. Just now seeing this. The river has many different paths to take. One thing about the Hiwassee is tons of people are normally out there. Certain parts we run the right and certain parts we run the left. It’s kinda hard to explain. One tool I use is American Whitewaters website for rapid descriptions.

I remember my first time, like it was yesterday. But finding all the eddy's and ferry moves was an exciting time. Every time was a new experience, like finding the hidden lagoon, or "I think I can". It never gets routine if you are pushing your limits. didn't that feel great?
It was such a wild day! Nothing like the first time! I'm so pumped for this upcoming season!
Unclear to me? Why do you show the same rapids over and over again and give it a different name each time?
They are not diffenent rapid names but some of the variety of lines and eddies to catch in the rapid. There are a total of 20 + eddies to catch and some have been named. Hope that clears up your confusion.
Also, at Nantahala Falls aka The Falls aka Lesser Wesser ( it has multiple names) there are multiple different NAMED lines that can be ran. In this video you see traditional, the race line, creek line and the stair step of the left side. On this particular day we were running laps on the falls doing different lines.
That was fun. Jess killed it! Tablesaw looked rowdy. What was the level? My PFD was much lower.
I believe it was equal to a double release. It was supposed to be 1 gen. HAHA. I was so nervous!
