Were looking at camping here and its so nice to find someone who has revisted and shows it all January was very wet lol
It is a great place, great location. Yes, the weather wasn't good, but I expect poor weather in winter. Thanks for the comments.
@Snert007 were here and it doesn't disappoint
Smokehead.
A very strong flavoured single malt whisky.
2 cracking videos
Thanks for the comments
deffo going for a couple of nights this summer some nice peace n quiet
It's a lovely sight in a good and quiet location
Brilliant amazing review! Perhaps next time you could show it actually working
Thanks for the comments. I'll video it in use the next time I use it.
The orange disc is a non return valve
Omg it’s huge!
Yes, it is huge, and very comfortable.
When will you ever learn about leaving your chair outside at night?
A rookie mistake
@@Snert007- Schoolboy error as they say, but don’t beat yourself up over it. I’ve fallen over so many times in the wild that I can’t recall how many.
The orange disc is part of the valve if you check the instructions you will see. You have to turn the orange disc 90 degrees to operate it
I pulled it out by accident
Thinking of going to the BSB at Oulton Park this year for the first time. Was just wondering if it’s worth paying extra for a grandstand seat? I’ll have my 9 year old with me also.
It's free on practice day. About £15 on the Sunday and £25 on the Monday. The price also varies on which Grandstand it is. Oulton Park is a great viewing circuit. So I don't usually bother.
I will be there for the May day weekend as usual
@@Snert007 cool thanks for the reply. I think I’ll not bother with the grandstand. Random question but is there stuff to do between races like demos, music, stalls??
The races come thick and fast. Not much gap between them. But there are loads of stalls selling bike gear. There's plenty to do.
Ouch.....$700 USD right there on the table!! Not that I object to the design and the super cool steampunk/retro aesthetic they give off. I'd love nothing more than to have a couple of them....but my better half would kill me. I was lucky to get away with a couple of Coleman's at 1/3 the cost.
They are a thing of engineering beauty. Thanks for the comments.
So basically a fiddly version of the tried, true, trusty Coleman white gas lantern but costs 3x more??? Don't get me wrong...as a Steampunk fan I sorta love the brass/gas/glass/pressure gauge vibe of this thing but.......
Wait, you're named after Hagar the Horribles dog? Oh and er, good review ty 😂 👍
Yes I am. Thanks for the comments
looking at getting one of these, how small do the poles go when packed away? Wondering if I can get them on the bike haha
The Pack size: 58 x 11 x 11cm. 2.2kg
@@Snert007 Mega, cheers mate!
Does it take other brand cannisters, does anyone know?
Yes, any brand of gas cannister with the screw on top. It just happens that I have Coleman
Greetings rom Northern California. I first became aware of this stove 1 month ago and I was intrigued because of it’s remote canister design. At that time it cost $70 on American Amazon, now it is $100. To my knowledge this stove is not being sold anywhere else in America but Amazon. I was considering buying it but not at $100, forget about it. Besides I already have a MSR Windburner which I bought at $135 on sale. I need a wind resistant stove for the San Francisco Bay Area and I have used the Windburner at a steady 25 MPH with success. The only problem I had was lighting it because it has no piezoelectric lighter but that problem is not insurmountable. I make coffee teabags out of cheesecloth and drink straight from the Windburner.
Thanks for your comments. So far I'm very impressed with the stove. It was on offer in the UK. I paid about £39 for it.
Are these still made in Germany?
As far as I'm aware they are.
How do you fold it away again?
Maxpedition stuff is overrated.
So you say, but I know you have lots of it lol
Looks like a good piece of kit!
Yes, it works really well. Thanks for the comments
That's pretty neat! No more huffing and puffing.
Absolutely. You're also not blowing moist breath into it. Therefore it shouldn't rot in years to come.
Some new kit for the next trip : czcams.com/video/CCN5c_OW_g8/video.html
Good video Chris. Great weather, and glad you got the spelling right 😄
Thanks for the comments
Looks like a nice campsite there Chris, shame about the cars razzing up and down. I could have showed you how to fillet those mackerel if I’d been there!
A nice place.
I have one of these lanterns. I find on mine that I have to keep a continuous flame to the fast pre heat to keep it burning otherwise it goes out. I was told to reduce the pressure and that kinda works a bit better but still have to re light the fast pre heat. I prefer to use the soft start. It is a beautiful lantern. I also have a 1973 639 kerosene Coleman that although doesn’t look as good the petromax is less finicky . I bought both from an antique shop and paid €70 each. The Coleman was full of fuel ( probably from 1973 ) I just put a mantle on it and it fired right up. They’re both great in their own way but if I had to pick one for reliability then it would be the Coleman. Id like to see a video on the petromax stove you mentioned that fits on top of the lantern, just to see how efficient it is.
Thanks for the comments. I will do a video with the stove attachment on. That's something I haven't got around to doing yet. You seem to be having trouble keeping it alight. I haven't had any of your problems. Once lit, if it has fuel and pressure it will stay happy for 8 hours. I'll make a point of it in the video with the stove attachment.
Seems most cheap walking boots do
I agree. I've also just had a pair of Merrils go the same way

No footage from the George III!
Not this time.
Great video as usual Snert. I have owned one of these for a good couple of years and have to say they are fantastic not only for camping but for use at home.I allways use the Weber coals. One great tip i picked up off a CZcams video was to cut the top grill with a junior hacksaw or grinder into half. This gives you more storage and cooking options.
Thanks for the great comments.
Very helpful video. Thanks a lot.
You're very welcome. Thanks for the comment.
@1:32 Damn, I was robbed.
Excellent video Snert. Can I ask, is the Buck knife blade made of stainless steel or carbon steel?
The blade is made from HC420 steel, high carbon, and is titanium coated.
@@Snert007 - Thanks for the info!
I have one of these and i just cannot get the ridgeline straight line in the pictures. Also mine came without instructions, so was a lot of guesswork to erect it.
Thanks for the comments
Spot the fisherman
I've got this in camo.
I've not seen it in camo
I have no whisky reference for this video.
We will drink some on our next trip
Looks good. Trouble is I have so many cook sets already lol. I had better not buy any more (for now!)
Yeah, me too. I'm always buying stuff lol
Nice review. Does it say where it’s made on the box at all? I’m assuming China as with everything else! How have you found it’s performance in use? Thanks.
If I pre chill my beer first, and put in 2 bags of ice from the supermarket, after 4 nights away in the summer, the beer is too cold to hold when I get home. It performs really well. Petromax is German, but alas i didn't look where it was manufactured. If I find out, I will let you know.
@@Snert007 thanks buddy. Thanks buddy. Yea I know Peteomax is a German company but I suspect the cooler is still made in China. 99% of them are. Yeti too although I think some are supposedly made in the USA. All in the same factory too. I had a Utoka one before and it was very nice similar to Yeti, but a bit small so I sold it. Just got a Petromax KX50 in the sale and they’re meant to be very good in test even against the Yeti despite being more competitively priced. I’ll be testing it next month camping so we shall see 👍🏻
Gas insulation cover!!!!......................... Alright, enough's enough.
I’m looking to get an air tent this year. I will only be using in the summer/festival season so wondering about good ventilation, warmth at night and if the doors/windows have mesh to keep insects out. If i need a kip in the day i would like doors and windows open but no insects getting in but I couldn’t see in your video any mesh etc. thanks for video, very informative otherwise. And good to see in real time. I need an easy tent to put up on my own. Also how heavy is it approx. I’m a small person with mobility issues and want something i can lift and carry a very short distance from car which will be next to tent. Does it need much body weight to deflate, I’m small and light.
The large front door and the normal side door have mesh inner doors which you can open or close independently of the outer doors
The tent bag has wheels and a handle at either end, so even though air tents are heavyer, it can be wheeled along quite easily. Putting it up is quite easy on your own. Putting it down takes a bit of practice and patience. I should do a video of Putting it down and back in the bag. It is a more difficult when it's wet trying to get it rolled up.
A collapsible table!!!! WHY????
Only you would say that lol. I'll remember when you are next eating off it
Don't worry, I'll get bored with it soon.
Presumably you saw a huge leap in channel activity after my APRS message via the ISS? I bet (including us) that message must have been seen by maybe 2 or 3 people!
Well, the channel has been in space now, thanks to you.
Have you had any experience with the berghaus air 400xl? Great vid cheers
I've seen a few 4XL and 6XLs put up and down. Great tents, lots of living space. It's relatively easy to put up. Heavy in the bag. Like all tents, a challenge to get back in the bag. Also they take up at lot of space in your car. If there's a Go Outdoors near you, go and have a look at them. They usually have them up in the shop. Thanks for the comments.
Rowter Farm Camping Castleton.....WHY?
You like teasing other commentators. Lol
All hail the algorithm ;-)
Has anyone broken the brow pole? I broke mine on the first trip. It felt too tight and i couldn't zip the door up until removed and when I re fitted it it then bent on the weak steel corners. It seemed it was too long. Any help would be appreciated.
I've never broken it
I've not broken mine, but have struggled to get it into the velcro catches. Last time I part inflated middle and front beams, put the brow in, zipped the side door and finished inflating the beams. Seemed to be a lot easier
What whisky was consumed?
Quieter run in if you had gone on the Thursday?
Looks a lovely campsite.
It's in a lovely place. It's only open a few weekends a year. It's a pop up campsite
