Materials Needed: 1. Distilled water 2. Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) 3. Non-metallic container 4. Battery charger 5. Safety glasses and gloves Safety First: Put on safety glasses and gloves to protect yourself from battery acid.Work in a well-ventilated area. Check the Battery: Inspect the battery for any visible damage, cracks, or leaks. If the battery is damaged, do not attempt to recondition it. Remove Electrolyte: Carefully remove the caps from the battery cells.Use a non-metallic funnel to pour out the existing electrolyte into a non-metallic container. Properly dispose of the old electrolyte according to local regulations. Prepare Epsom Salt Solution: Create a solution by mixing distilled water with Epsom salt. Use about one tablespoon of Epsom salt per cell. Stir the solution until the Epsom salt is completely dissolved. Fill Battery Cells: Fill each battery cell with the Epsom salt solution using the non-metallic funnel. Fill each cell to the proper level indicated by the battery. Charge the Battery: Connect the battery to a battery charger.Charge the battery at a low or trickle charge for several hours. This helps the Epsom salt solution to mix with the remaining acid. Allow for Equalization: Let the battery sit for some time to allow the equalization of the solution within the cells. Recheck Electrolyte Levels: After charging, recheck the electrolyte levels in each cell. Add distilled water if necessary to bring the levels up. Reinstall Caps: Reinstall the caps on the battery cells securely. Test the Battery: Use a battery tester to check the voltage and overall condition of the battery. Repeat if Necessary: If the battery performance hasn't improved, you may repeat the process. Always follow safety precautions when working with batteries. Do not overfill the battery cells, and use distilled water to top them off. If the battery doesn't respond to reconditioning or shows signs of severe damage, it may be time to replace it.
