Many years ago when I was a photojournalist in Asia, I was assigned to shoot a steel mill in Bangladesh, which had been East Pakistan until 1971. My guide around the mill behaved strangely, he seemed frightened by my being there, but I was trying to be considerate, careful, only as bold as need be to accomplish the coverage my client needed. My guide finally confided that the last American photographer he'd had to chaperone had been Margaret Bourke White who had been absolutely intrepid, insisting on shooting from above vats of molten steel, very close into the blast furnace, all that stuff. I've never forgotten that, she must have been an unbelievably brave photographer. But she got the picture. Bless her.
Murrow would vomit if he saw what news reporting has become, whether is be the leftist propaganda of CNN or Fox pandering to the right.
So interesting! Thank you!
Good effort, yet an earnest suggestion; have someone else do the v.o.
Saw this for a Lecture, in my college Class for Broadcasting.
George Washington Vanderbilt IS BLACK 🖤 Blessings and Hugs 💖💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕!
Good work! I'm going to show it to my class before we read a selection about Bourke-White.
Thanks so much for sharing my work with your class! That means a lot!
You forgot to mention the part where she compromised societal norms.
Just beautiful! Thank you and Merry Christmas 🎄
Im also doing National History Day, I was wondering how you got all of these photos and videos to put over your voiceover.
Lots of research online! Google Arts & Culture has lots you can use. Thankfully with this subject she was a photographer so it made it easier to find photos to use.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know, GWV did not work even one day in his life.
This was so well done!
Nice! As a photographer I really never looked much into her, but glad I re looked. I wonder if she ever took photos of her Chrysler building apartment. Its funny how much in common I have with her in her ideas thinking, shooting and creativity. She truely was an inspirational person with such talent.
Glad you enjoyed it! She really is an inspirational person! Here's a link to a few photos of her apartment: www.johnvassos.com/blog/john-vassos-designed-margaret-bourke-whites-art-deco-chrysler-building-office. There's not too much out there about it, but remembered coming upon this in my research.
Fantastic, loved watching this, thank you for making and sharing it :) I've just shared it on my History group and my Photography group!
The young men behind the barbed wire look happy enough for being inside a concentration camp!
Before working for Life, she became the first foreign photojournalist in the USSR who was allowed to photograph industrial facilities
It's suck to die from an appendectomy in today's standard of medical expertise. It's also suck to pay so much money for healthcare in America now a day.
Hi, this is someone who is going to make a documentary for the first time for NHD. What app or website did you used to create your documentary?
Edward, we love you. You are dearly missed by Millions of People. RIP,. Thanks for the Great Work !! !! !! !!
great job
great documentary. However, the claim of being the first female war photojournalist is not true. I just would refer to the work of Gerda Taro during the Spanish Civil War.
Wonderful job. Thanks for shooting and sharing.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
This was lovely and very well presented. Always enjoy visiting Biltmore and feeling George’s generous presence.
I have always enjoyed visting there also. I liked to eat at a place called the Hot Shot Cafe in Biltmore Village before visiting as food is pricey on the Estate. Sad to say the Hot Shot is no more.
Brilliant job!!
Nice job!
Thanks so much!
what editing software did you use ?
I found a cool canvas print of a woman on the Chrysler eagles a while ago, and only now have I decided to do some research on her. Bloody interesting.
She certainly is quite an interesting woman!
This is really well-done. Excellent research and terrific interviews with some leading journalists. I learned a lot about Margaret BW I didn't know from reading other bios about her, all in under 10 minutes. Great job!
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it!
A Great Pioneer and today her grace and wisdom and guts should be an inspiration to us all!
Every sitting U.S. Senator should want to view this because it a Clarion Call to live according to the highest ideals of integrity and honor; which we have so little of today. Out.
She was definitely a courageous woman! I truly admire her.
Great job Parker. You should be very proud. Love you.
Sorry but he wasn't what is today known as a Environmentalist he was a conservationist. He didn't worship the Earth like all the Green people today. He was a Christian man that had created like in Europe a self sustaining farm and village this was achieved but he did fall on harder times with some failed investments and this project as great as it was and is today was a money pit and he didn't earn anything off of it. I think today is it's most success than it ever had been in the past. He put everything that was the latest technology in the day he spoke 8 languages he would have made a good professor if he had not been born into wealth. It's good he helped the community and money isn't everything but yet it was cause without his family fortune he couldn't have done this he spent 1 million 1894 dollars on this thing that's far more money than 1 mil today. He didn't have to pay taxes you kept what you earned or inherited. I'd never compare him to the Environmentalist kooks of today.
hi! can i ask you a question?
jewelbqrn obviously not ?
