Still struggling with this classic on my 12 string!
The tempo is the key, most are off tempo. On the studio record, Page is very crisp and efficient.
Are you playing a muted 16th note in the bass at the beginning: eighth-sixteenth-sixtheenth-(muted sixteenth pickup)? It comes out as a rhythmic knock. It really gives it the feel, whatever it is. As yes, it's "Clap," and I smiled even when I hear Jon Anderson introduce it as "The Clap" on The Yes Album (I think?): "Here's a song called The Clap."
It's just Travis picking on the bass notes for much of it--one and two and three and four and...
Using hybrid picking, the main percussive push throughout the song for each chord is a muted bass note with your pick, followed by plucking the upper register of the chord with your middle and ring fingers, following by a percussive rake of the pick across the chord.
V nice rendition…even with your rain man by your side. Thanks for sharing❤
Upon us all a little rain must fall...
That’s pretty good ! I didn’t think you were going to make it in 11 minutes, but it came out very well. And you’re right I never thought about it that way, but that is a Chet Atkins groove. Good job. I consider that one of my greatest accomplishments. - even though I don’t play it exactly like Steve who is one of the greatest guitar players in the world. My other is Jazz in The Box by Doyle Dykes. Check it out.

Great! 👏... And I find that tuning to C# G# C# G# C# E and Capo 4 reduces any negative issues with string tension.
change your title please........ CLAP.
It is very disrespectful to use the Clap. as Steve Howe has said. "CLAP"
Gary is the antidote to all these super slick guitar tutors. Love his authenticity. It feels like a one to one lesson over a beer. Thanks
You gotta do Go To The Mirror!!!
Is this THE Jared L, cohort from the Big City?
@@GaryDavidSisto You bet :)
Go To The Mirror has gotta be the best track on Tommy! ;)
Steve always played that song on short scale guitars and it’s easy to see why.
True that!
With your setup the way it is here, will this play well with the recording by Kathy Mattea?
I just listened to her version. From what I can tell upon a cursory listen, the tuning seems the same, but the capo may be in a lower position to match her voice.
Just Clap no The. Jon screwed up the intro on Yes Songs. I've been working on it for years
just gte cd out for a play. forgot i had it. now being put onto playlists.. top post and album Gary!!
Thank you so much, MrSadSack! What state or country are you located?

It's actually " Clap"
As Steve Howe has pointed out many times, the title of the tune is simply "Clap", not "The Clap".
Good job, it a lot of stuff to organize and unpack. It's like anything it takes a lot of repetition. Having all the parts worked out is important too, either slow or fast. You need to know with confidence what you're working on is the right stuff. After that it's proportional to time and effort put forth.
You are pulling that little finger off far too quickly every time you do it it grates my ears
CAPO is not pronounced with a long A. It comes form the Italian word, capotasto. The A in capo, is like the A , in ha ha ha.. Just say it is an OPEN C TUNING with the CAPO on the 4th fret.

Bro I need AI to understand what you are saying and even then the conclusion is something simple as you know what.
I am watching too but at the outset why should we start with the assumption that the physical world is a ontological precursor to human minds and perception? You seem to be offering a rear guard defence of the enlightenment. Is it Liebnitzs monads or atoms in the void or some other system that is the starting point of your philosophy of materialism?
Keep watching this video and your questions will be addressed. Or go to natReason.com to learn more.
For me, I am convinced by the Riemann Habilitation Dissertation, and known principles of Thermodynamics that material reality precedes human thought.
@@declandougan7243 How is the mind problem overcome?
@@patricksee10 The video is just an introduction. If you wish to read the argument about overcoming the mind-body problem or the hard problem of mind, read the executive summary Sapere Aude, available at natReason.com. For the most detailed argument, read volume 2 of the trilogy, Naturalistic Reason.
@@GaryDavidSisto there are a set of ontological causes which explain the effectiveness of mathematics and it’s daughter physics. Space is a substantial factor not a void. We are mammals with limited phenomenological aspects. Have I got it? Seems like an enlightenment riff? Just drops minds off as unnecessary?
I don’t like assuming the natural world or our sense faculties are “real” but I’ll keep watching. Gotta enjoy well made content even if I have disagreements
