Something I’ve noticed about festivals, concerts where there is one attraction with a large crowd is people behave extremely selfishly in ways they wouldn’t in normal, everyday circumstances. It’s as though people view each other as competition in a situation of limited resources, like throwing a piece of meat in the middle of a pack of starving dogs. People will stand on their seats, completely unconcerned about blocking others’ view, jostle, elbow, push in front of, etc.,not a single Excuse me will you hear. I’d think this egocentric behavior would be a contributing factor in some types of crowd crushes?

While it's true that much of the blame doesn't lie in the crowd, I can't consider them to be completely blameless. Take concerts, for example. I've been to both small shows and big festivals, and crowd etiquette plays a big part in this. In smaller, more "obscure" shows, people tend to respect each other's personal spaces. Big festivals are scary though, because a lot of festival-goers are kids or assholes with no concept of crowd etiquette. Instead of letting others have their space, they start PUSHING you forward just to move a few cm. I went with a friend to her first festival, and she insisted on getting through the crowd to end up closer to the stage. When we got there, we were so compressed it was difficult to breathe. It was a completely stupid act. Combine multiple people doing this, and you have the perfect scenario for a crowd crush. People are selfish, and their selfishness CAN be partially responsible for these tragedies. Things wouldn't get as bad in some cases if no one started pushing. Anyway, great video! Onto part two.

Thanks a lot. Especially the mention that people who are in the back do not know what is happening in front. Unfortunately, everything repeats itself, many people after the Itaewon tragedy said - Why did they continue to go there? Blame the victims again, call it natural selection and other bad things. As if they know everything in this world, see the future and come out of any situation dry.. It would be better if they watched such videos and finally educated themselves. Instead of holding accountable people whose job and direct responsibility is to prevent such situations and ensure safety, one has to listen to their attacks on people in the crowd. If they're so smart, they'd better give some of the blame to the society system as a whole, which doesn't teach people about the dangers of crowds and the rules of safe behavior in them.Complete ignorance.
