Leon had 'knock you naked' eyes!! I got to see him back in the day, top hat and all. My tickets were behind the stage. Crapping but I was under the same roof as him. As it turned out he kept looking at his band as he played which meant my friend and I were so happy that what we thought our tickets weren't so good turned out to be the best seats!! Damn he was good and those eyes!!! be still my heart!!!

Leon Russell an American treasure

Many people don’t know of Leon. I’m 64 and have followed him since I was in middle school. So underrated?

i rember being introduced to Leon Russell in the early seventies and immediately reconizing his uniqueness. Thank you Mr. John for your generosity and sincere affection of Leon's gift.

My husband and I saw him in a rather small club venue in Nashville, probably early '90's. It was a double bill with him and Billy Preston - and this piano-playing singer was in heaven. What a show!! A few years later my hubby bought a bunch of DVD's of the show Shindig! (yes, where from that era). It was silly, hammy but was a real trip to see all the early session players and soon to be major artists, and Leon was one of them. I treasure all of it, and I particularly treasure Leon. ❤

I was playing you a few weeks ago and it always makes you feel good. I just stumbled on this! Congratulations! You never got the recognition you deserved. I loved so many of your songs, and along with Neil, Aretha, Boz, Linda R, The Band , and Marvin . I played music always . My stereo most important to. Me. I lived Davis CA teen in 1968. Saw Janis, you, Buffalo, The Stones 3 times. First in Sacramento 1965. CSNY . My parents move , so I had to , to Seattle. My dad felt’s bad and bought two tickets to see the doors there. I had the long hair etc. He took me wearing a light blue leisure suit. White shoes and belt. OMG he was in the wrong. place. . I last saw you at I believe Cash Creek Casion. Wow what a great performance. Leon for life!

I love Leon Russell. What a fabulous musician. All that he contributed. And back around 1976. He came out with a brand-new record. When I was a DJ on the #1 FM Album Rock Station for Baltimore, WKTK--FM 105.7. The Rock of Baltimore. I was not only the overnight, DJ. I was also a budding young Recording Engineer. And out came his brand-new Record called Willow the Wisp. I was all excited to hear this record. Because I knew something about it. I knew. It had been recorded. With the brand-new Stephens, 811, 2 inch wide tape. Which normally only recorded, 16 or 24 channels. But this machine could record, 40 Channels! It was done on this brand-new 40 Track, Tape Recorder! Holy cow! And I'll never forget. When I slipped queued it up. I heard this funny oscillation. And when I hit play. Before the music started. The meter came up. It was 60 Hz, hum. What the hell is 60 Hz, hum. Doing on this record? I freaked! This should not be! There should be no hum, all over this record. But there is. A pure solid, 60 Hz, sine wave. For Christ sakes!?? What the hell? It's, OK. The Rolling Stones had come out with their new album, Black & Blue. With a picture of a pair of blue jeans. And included an actual brass zipper. In the album jacket cover art. You could open and close. And on that record. There was a 15 kHz, oscillation. On Mick Jagger's, vocal microphone. And I knew. He was likely watching a soccer game. While cutting his vocals. Because a TV set. Admits that sound. Most people can't even hear. Unless you are a dog. Like me. WOOF! It drove me crazy! What the hell was that doing on a record? He must've been watching Television! And that sound gets into the microphone really easily. So I really don't know what kind of Shenanigans is going on with some of these other Audio Engineers? There seems to be a lapse in Competency? I always found that rather whimsical. Especially when it still sounded so good. But with extra stupid junk on the recordings that shouldn't be there. I never had that problem in the Studio. I made certain of it! Because that is just plain, incompetence on a Technical Level. What? You didn't know how to wire your studio properly? You didn't know not to put a TV set with a high voltage power supply in it. Next to a Studio Condenser Microphone? Really? I've heard other funky things out of other engineers. Where the funk was not intentional. Like a black female singer. With a nose snort sound. Why would they leave that in? He was supposed to be such a meticulous engineer. She snorted. On this one word. And I'm like, what!? What was that? Snort? She snorted. Cute. It did not add to the sound nor the song. Like when a girl laughs over something really funny. They snort. But this was not a whimsical lyric. So, I don't know? What happened there. You pick up these little things when you listen carefully. And I listen deeply into the mix. I really never thought much of, Phil Spector. I realized he was an ass hole. Of the highest dimension. Or, Dementia.. Delusions of Godhood. Wall of Found Sound. Just make everybody play all at once. Double and triple up instruments. Double doubles. And do it again.. You put your left footed. You take your left foot out. And shake it all about. You do the hokey Pokey. At record hit records. That's what it's all about. And so Phil Spector got what he needed. No Whigs in prison. Just an ugly little bald Jewish guy sicko. I wonder if he had, Charles Manson as a cellmate? He could have produced a record for him in jail or maybe a baby? Or try? Keep on trying. For years to come. But now poor old Phil Spector. Got, Spectrumed. And he's in a better place now. At the end of a reel of tape. In the clouds. All digitized, in the clouds. In the cloud servers. Where he is being served. For all eternity, to come. What an ugly little schmuck. You play with fire you get burned. You play with a gun. You get a dead girl. Who got burned in the mouth. Yeah no. She did not do that herself. He snorted a bit too much cocaine. Ya think? And she was just a pretty young stupid actress groupie. And he stuck his gun in her mouth. Symbolizing his flaccid phallus. With cold hard blue steel. And whoops. He wasn't supposed to pull the trigger. He was only joking around. She did it. She put her hand on his and pulled the trigger. Yeah right Phil. At 14, I spray painted a frame lavender to go around my life-size poster of MY Leon in his tophat at the piano. My dad took me to see him and those magic blue eyes looked straight into my binoculars. I love you, Leon. thank you, Sir Elton, and I'll always remember both of you.
