Comparative Methodologies of Talmud Study, Part 5 of 5
Rabbi Yonah Hain
This class will trace two distinct styles of Talmudic study: that of the yeshiva and that of the academy. Each week we will examine a specific, usable technique for analyzing the various dimensions of rabbinic literature. The yeshiva learning will feature unique principles of analytic philosophy (lomdus) that students on every level can implement in their own studies. The academic method will reveal the intricate layers developed to construct each talmudic section. The goal is for students to gain an appreciation for a more interdisciplinary approach to the Talmud. The aim will be to empower students, irrespective of their current level of study, to better appreciate the forest and the trees of rabbinic discussion.

Ms. Sarah Gordon Shavuot is a captivating holiday with dual significance. On one hand, it holds a legal aspect, emphasizing the giving of the Torah through the reading of the Ten Commandments. On the other hand, it embraces a human dimension through the Book of Ruth, a narrative centered around the harvest and the acts of kindness within the community. This course will emphasize the complementa...

Rabbanit Leah Sarna, Humans spend an incredible amount of our lives sleeping, and when we don’t get enough of it - challenges abound. How do classical Jewish texts conceptualize sleep? Is good sleep a value? Do we cherish it the way we cherish other life-nourishing and pleasant elements of our lives like food and clothing? Or does it represent a human limitation that we should attempt to overco...

Hey, loved the vibe🙌! I'm not really sure if it is the best time to ask but, I was wondering if I could help you create a better distribution by working on post-production like better storytelling through Edits, Keywords, think catchy intros and outros, or even some engaging short clips! Would love to chat if you're interested and keep creating good content:)

When all this occurred in the month of Nisan, I hear the spirit of the lord speak to me go get the 10 Commandments. Well, I referenced the Historical Cecil B. Demile movie. That was March 3rd of 2012. Then on March 15 of that same month of 2012, I hear the Spirit of the Lord speak to me, Put on your Priestly garment and don’t go back. We are in a new dispensation.

I'd recommend reading the Sumerian enuma elish to see where the biblical creation story was copied from or perhaps a book on comparative mythology of which there are several that will show the biblical myth next to the original Noah and the original unapishtum. Samson and Hercules, book of Esther and the original akkadian story of the goddess Ishtar (Ishtar became Esther and Marduk becomes Mordecai). The solar myth of Moses borrows from sargon the great, etc etc i can go on and on but perhaps the clearest example would be Psalm 104 which is copied almost word for word from the Egyptian "hymn to aten" this isn't to say there isn't incredible wisdom in the Hebrew Bible because there absolutely is but even the most learned Rabbi (or more likely a kabbalist) will tell you the value is almost entirely in it's allegorical context.. it's literal meaning has little to no value and yet that's how everyone reads scripture.. the Christians are no better.. Jesus was just another dying and rising God no different than Odin Mithras Krishna Osiris Persephone or any other...
