Comparative Methodologies of Talmud Study, Part 5 of 5
Rabbi Yonah Hain
This class will trace two distinct styles of Talmudic study: that of the yeshiva and that of the academy. Each week we will examine a specific, usable technique for analyzing the various dimensions of rabbinic literature. The yeshiva learning will feature unique principles of analytic philosophy (lomdus) that students on every level can implement in their own studies. The academic method will reveal the intricate layers developed to construct each talmudic section. The goal is for students to gain an appreciation for a more interdisciplinary approach to the Talmud. The aim will be to empower students, irrespective of their current level of study, to better appreciate the forest and the trees of rabbinic discussion.

From Revelation to Realization: Matan Torah and Shavuot, Part 4 of 4

Ms. Sarah Gordon Shavuot is a captivating holiday with dual significance. On one hand, it holds a legal aspect, emphasizing the giving of the Torah through the reading of the Ten Commandments. On the other hand, it embraces a human dimension through the Book of Ruth, a narrative centered around the harvest and the acts of kindness within the community. This course will emphasize the complementa...

I Sleep But My Heart Wakes: Sleep in Classical Jewish Texts, Part 4 of 4
zhlédnutí 13Před měsícem
Rabbanit Leah Sarna, Humans spend an incredible amount of our lives sleeping, and when we don’t get enough of it - challenges abound. How do classical Jewish texts conceptualize sleep? Is good sleep a value? Do we cherish it the way we cherish other life-nourishing and pleasant elements of our lives like food and clothing? Or does it represent a human limitation that we should attempt to overco...

Hey, loved the vibe🙌! I'm not really sure if it is the best time to ask but, I was wondering if I could help you create a better distribution by working on post-production like better storytelling through Edits, Keywords, think catchy intros and outros, or even some engaging short clips! Would love to chat if you're interested and keep creating good content:)
Thank You So Much! The tips are very helpful! I'd my shofar for some years... but couldn't blow the sounds I hear others blowing. I will practise! Toda Raba! ❤
This week was the anniversary of my dad so on Friday the 12 please say cottage for my dad
Met him once when he came to Hanover, Germany. I also own a copy of his translation of the TaNaKh
🎉 He had no equal 🎉
Can you tell me in what circumstance in your opinion when it would be acceptable for one person to own another person as their property?
I am still in the learning process
Another interesting episode by Dr Michal thank you for doing this session Drisha
Audio is poor, but Michal study on the subject on Minim (Heretics) is really broad and direct very convincing speaking from the Dead Sea, Gospel, Church Fathers, and the Babylonian Talmud
The breathing method described and the relation to the immune system is like that of 'the Iceman' Wim Hof.
The word god fills the mouth of some people, but by the action of their people, this word god, doesn't reach their heart. The thousand years comedy, continues.
Yes
When all this occurred in the month of Nisan, I hear the spirit of the lord speak to me go get the 10 Commandments. Well, I referenced the Historical Cecil B. Demile movie. That was March 3rd of 2012. Then on March 15 of that same month of 2012, I hear the Spirit of the Lord speak to me, Put on your Priestly garment and don’t go back. We are in a new dispensation.
How I came into knowing about the Lord, showing me back in 2012 to blow the shofar, because danger is coming, and then I came to understand the Lord spoke to me about him, calling me to be a watchman on the wall, and then speaking to me to mobilize the prophets
I just got my shofar and I’m learning
It’s baptizing and puting new covers/new meanings into the Greco Roman ways.
He also avoided the whole afikomen thing.
He rambled and brushed over the dipping of the lettuce on salt by saying it quickly and shortly. He mentioned the sweets, but doesn’t go into specifics that they had the Charoset. He rambled and doesn’t go into specifics on those things so as to not raise suspicions any further.
Thank you for this! Studying for my national boards and this really helped with pronouncing these terms correctly. So much respect for the Jewish community, especially with my experiences here in Chicago.
❤Oh what a gorgeous Ashkenazi! I'm looking for one like this!
each time the sound becomes louder and longer
Yes, training is necessary for lips!
oh, I've been blowing the shofar for over 3 years now! it's a great experience. I blow it quite often. I am from Lithuania. God's blessings.
I think the word Furstenberg is looking for around 22:45 is "carousing".
Love the topic. It would be great to address when individual scrolls became connected to become the torah.
I'd recommend reading the Sumerian enuma elish to see where the biblical creation story was copied from or perhaps a book on comparative mythology of which there are several that will show the biblical myth next to the original Noah and the original unapishtum. Samson and Hercules, book of Esther and the original akkadian story of the goddess Ishtar (Ishtar became Esther and Marduk becomes Mordecai). The solar myth of Moses borrows from sargon the great, etc etc i can go on and on but perhaps the clearest example would be Psalm 104 which is copied almost word for word from the Egyptian "hymn to aten" this isn't to say there isn't incredible wisdom in the Hebrew Bible because there absolutely is but even the most learned Rabbi (or more likely a kabbalist) will tell you the value is almost entirely in it's allegorical context.. it's literal meaning has little to no value and yet that's how everyone reads scripture.. the Christians are no better.. Jesus was just another dying and rising God no different than Odin Mithras Krishna Osiris Persephone or any other...

Is that to say that the non philosophical sagas and later פוסקים were aware of this philosophical ideas??

I needed to listen to this today. The situation in the world and Israel in particular is making me seek insight from the prophets of Yahweh. Thank you.
What about "don't worship me in the way of the pagans"?
Thanks for such an illuminating talk.

I needed this info to educate a modern Christian about allegory in the Bible and how we interpret things much more literally than Jewish people do. Thank you very much, I found exactly what I was looking for. I also liked how others chimed in to clarify certain points and made sure it was concise and clear.
Wow the truth has been hidden and people still haven't come to listen to the truth. Why did they remove this from the Bible?
Thank you for your genuine way of teaching us about the Akedat Isaac with comments by Rashi. A Kabbalist advice is to read the "Akedat Isaac" during severe lunar radiations ( full moons?) To soften severe heavenly decrees and transmuting it into sweetness with the reading of the Akedat Isaac..
LOVE THESE CLASSES... THANK YOU.... WISH I COULD HAVE ALSO JOINED IN... STUDIED FOR YEARS STILL LEARNING X
Wonderful episode! Rabbi David Silver speaks and gives w wonderful insight into the Hallel-118-116 amazing! Thank you for posting this video

Forgive me for involving myself in your religion but what in the world was God thinking when He commanded Abraham to offer up his son for sacrifice.?

Reminds me of Jacob and his mother getting the birthright by trickery.
Was taught that too... but remember Jacob's mother was TOLD Jacob would have the birthright.
great video!
