your located not real far from me, glad I found your channel. These early 70s grand prix are my favorite. I have a 70 sj grand prix i drove up from Oklahoma about 15 yrs ago. Had the 455v8 and 400 transmission rebuilt 4 yrs ago and new interior last year. I have minor surface rust in the same spot on the bottom of the quarters as the grand prix in this video. My grand prix is going in for new paint next month cant wait.

Of course I lost one of the 6 screws holding the faceplate on probably like a lot of other CZcams backyard mechanics but this vid got the job done THANK YOU

When much younger, 1970s, my friends and I all had Camaros. 68 convertible SS, 70 Z28 in blue, 74 Z28 with motor sent to Motion for building it and that car was in auto show, mine was a 77 type LT 350. 4speed. Ah those were the days. I now have a 2010 RS//SS 6 speed 6.2 liter.

Great video. I just bought my 2022 AT4 1500 last weekend, and noticed after I left the dealership that the lower button doesn’t work. Took the time today to dig into the tailgate and see what was going on and it seems like the previous owner had cut the yellow wires right at the switch. Any chance you have an idea why they might have done this? Thanks

The 1980 Grand Prix SJ and grand Am were a one year wonder. Both came with the new EC version of the 301 4BBL engine which was coded as W72 and made a healthy 30 additional horses and had a knock sensor to detect pinging from the more aggressive cam and timing. They also included dual exhaust from the converter back, a 2.93 rear axle ratio instead of the 2.14 that other 301's used and of course the RTS suspension and gauge package with a tach as an option. I owned a 1980 white GP in SJ trim with the original drive train and it was a pretty quick car at the time and handled and rode quite well. Really miss these types of cars.

Its amazing how much people rag on this era of cars when in reality they actually ran really well and better than some of my Fords and Mopars. I owned this exact same car and year/model but in maroon with Pontiac rally wheels and the same 301 4BBL V8. It always started right up and ran really well. Was no ball of fire until we went through and tuned it and ditched the terrible pellet catalytic converter for a nice high flow unit, rebuilt the carburetor and tweaked the secondary's and messed with the timing. That woke it up quite a bit and swapping out the lousy 2.14 rear gears for a set of 3.08's really made a big difference. That made a big difference in the driving enjoyment of this car and I miss it to this day!

Love the video. Helped tremendously for removal. Like a kid with a brand new toy decided to play with the multi pro tail gate forgetting I had my D ring shackle hitch in and cracked the housing plate. The truck is 3 days old…. Do you happen to know the part number for the outer plastic shroud? Everything I have found is 200 for the full assembly with everything. Any insight would be much appreciated
