Now for the grand reveal of my total cost for one week in the life: $1,159.63
Yikes.
Closing thoughts:
1. I actually enjoyed tracking my spending. It’s hard, yes. But it’s very eye-opening. I used to be very restrictive with my money and didn’t allow myself to spend or go out multiple times a week, but sometimes I just let myself do that now, and I’m okay with it.
2. I realized that my mental health has significantly improved since I no longer have to worry about my money. I know that when I wasn’t able to say yes to things or was constantly worried about how I was going to pay for something, I was going through it. That was the lowest of lows for me. Almost. So, now that I don’t have those same worries, it’s really nice.
3. BUT! I still need to be conscious of my spending. It’s hard to cut back right now, holiday season and all. But this challenge gave me a really practical and realistic look at what my new year's goals will be and how I can better manage my financial life.
I talk about money every single day. It’s my job. And I am not perfect. So, the comparison that we consistently play with is super damaging. Just because I spent over $1,000 in one week, does not mean that’s normal, or average or good or bad. It’s just my personal reality. Money is very personal, and although there are a lot of things we can do that is similar to better our finances, it doesn’t mean that we can.
I hope of my takeaways you learned that homeownership comes with some significant expenses. There are small savings habits you can build. And that it’s okay to enjoy your money if you can afford to.
