Sarah Finch at Restore Nature Now March - 22 June 2024
Weald Action Group attended Restore Nature Now March on Saturday 22 June with nearly 80,000 marchers. And guess what? Sarah Finch was asked to join the stage with Chris Packham to talk about our incredible win in the Supreme Court. So many cheers!
"A landmark judgment that could change all of our futures, made by a tiny group of people. Is there anyone in this crowd that thinks that they are not empowered because they are just one drop in an ocean?
Because every single one of you may be a drop, but what is an ocean? But a multitude of drops." - Chris Packham

"Historic, ground-breaking, a watershed judgment" - Finch vs Surrey County Council judgment - C4

Our groundbreaking judgment could have profound implications for new fossil fuel projects, including Cumbrian coal mine and North Sea oil and gas fields Surrey County Council acted unlawfully by giving planning permission for oil production at Horse Hill in the Surrey countryside without considering the climate impacts of when the oil is inevitably burned, the Supreme Court has ruled today. The...

In 2019, Surrey County Council granted permission for 20 more years of oil drilling at Horse Hill in Surrey, England, despite declaring a climate emergency only the month before and without taking into account the carbon emissions of the oil that would be produced there. So why is it still legal for national governments or their local authorities to grant permission for new fossil fuel developm...

WOULD YOU CYCLE 1000 MILES for a cause that you really believed in? Simon Sinclair did! In July 2021, Simon and his friend Sam Swain cycled from London, U.K. to Barcelona, Spain, in order to raise money for Sarah Finch’s climate case. They succeeded in raising thousands towards her legal fees and continue to offer their support to this case. Over the last 4 years, Sarah on behalf of the Weald A...

TEN LONG YEARS of opposing drilling for new oil at Horse Hill in Surrey and it is all culminating in a Supreme Court case next week - pretty exciting stuff huh? The science about the climate crisis has been clear for decades - namely, that it’s a crisis caused by high levels of carbon emissions in our atmosphere and most of these carbon emissions come from the burning of fossil fuels. But it’s ...

WHEN THE SUN IS SHINING and everyone is enjoying the fact that summer is finally here, it’s difficult for our brains to compute that we are in the middle of a climate crisis isn’t it? But we know hot days lead to hotter days, which in turn lead to droughts, wildfires and crop failure, and these are not problems that we will face at some far off point in the future - but problems we are facing r...

    Sarah Finch, makes little sense, when a vehicle is manufactured it makes more co2 and pollution to make it that it will produce in its lifetime Nissan proved this in the 70s. Electric vehicles for rare earth, cobalt, lithium, and other precious metal mining even more. The way to produce less is to keep your old car on the road. More pollution is made upstream than downstream.

    Enough said....Judge dismisses the claim. Brexit is coming at us like an out of control train...oil = cash, big tax revenues for the government, that oil is coming out of that ground at whatever cost, it’s a shame, but true

    Jimmy O: You are forgetting UK and global existing commitments. Boris Johnson knows wrecking the South Downs for oil exploration and extraction is not a vote winner and will get publicity. Moreover his renewed plans for green investment are a continuation of previous Governments'. Today's students (all subjects) and City investors know that the big money for the UK and all major economies is in new green investment for the global market. We have a lot of chemical, engineering, software and investment know-how. The majority of fund managers and institutional investors want the UK to be in the vanguard of a "Green Revolution". Oil is history. Only oil companies that use their existing assets and wealth to generate and distribute hydrogen and electricity will survive. We will not see Sussex turned into a waste land like that around Odessa, Texas.

      Yes, your absolutely right, but oil is a fast cash generator for the government, millions of gallons are imported into the U.K. with serious costs, definitely green is the way forward but until then oil is needed, even for medicines we need, oil isn’t history just yet, ukog is the 2nd biggest self sufficient producer, and I think the government will support that, if you look at the ukog long term plan, I’m sure the 4 producing wells are actually underground with very little mechanics in sight, so, a bit of both for Boris to be happy about, I can’t see this area ending up like a baron oil field in Iraq let’s watch this space as they say...time will tell

    I wonder how many people protesting are driving 4x4’s?? If this was in another city/county or another part of the U.K....the action group wouldn’t even exist, this is simply because it’s in their own back yard....and yes, rightly so you should protest, but the oil location is where it is, and I’ll bet my house on it...that the government will get and sell every drop that’s down there,

  • @Mintghbghlkk
    @Mintghbghlkk Před 3 lety

    Brexit is here...no deal, U.K. needs to step up to the table, and fast, ukog state they can generate serious tax monies to the purse of the government, I’ll bet whatever ukog want...they will get....that’s serious money for the government, and that’s all that counts...

      I think it’s the opposite, I’m sure Sanderson was a energy adviser to David Cameron, that well can generate ££££ for the government, a few protesters won’t be able to stop the government purse being filled....Brexit will see to that my friend
