Window Shopping: New Releases from Christopher Ward and Farer: Dune, Sealander 36 and Three-Hand 36
Today I comment on some new releases by Christopher Ward and Farer. Let me know in the comments what you think about these new watches.
I'm not a big fan of the design or proportions of most of these new releases, but I am excited about the trend towards smaller watches, and that the Sellita movement might have a new competitor.

SAMCO vs. Barton Silicone Straps
zhlédnutí 3,3KPřed rokem
I found some aliexpress knock-off barton silicone straps for about $5.00 each! In this video I compare both the SAMCO and Barton straps in various colors and sizes. These are a great alternative to the over-priced Barton bands. Link to the SAMCO bands: www.aliexpress.us/item/3256802885862241.html?spm=a2g0o.order_detail.order_detail_item.3.5239f19cWzkQwF&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa&_randl_shipto=US

Christopher Ward C63 Aquitaine vs. Zodiac Super Sea Wolf-Two Heritage Divers Compared-PART 1
zhlédnutí 2,2KPřed rokem
In part 1 of this video, I compare the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf to the Christopher Ward C63 Aquitaine. While two very different watches, they still have some things in common, so I thought I would kill two birds with one stone by reviewing them both together. Part one includes: 1. Unboxing/packaging 2. Pricing, including the used market 3. Specs, dimensions

Today I review the Waffle-dialed Islander 38 "Watermelon" dive watch. This watch is on sale at longislandwatch.com for $245, which I think is a great price for what you get. This is the only waffle-dial version left on the site. the audio should be improved over earlier videos as I've purchased a lapel mic. I'm also trying to consistently record/export in 4k. Really enjoyed this my friend. I see so many SOTC videos full of Rolex and hype pieces at various price points and it just feels so ‘cold’ and unoriginal sometimes. It was refreshing to see an enthusiast who buys what he likes and unapologetically enjoys it. It really shows what a varied collection one can achieve without breaking the bank into 4 figures. I also own the presage mojito and adore the dial, an underrated piece for sure. I’d take a look at G-shock, maybe the steel G-2100 Casioak or just the standard square as a beater watch - I’d hate for you to scratch up all those nice steel cases next time you mud wrestle or paintball fight! Cheers

Outstanding collection mate. You’ve got a very honest everyday persons watch collection, and I love that. I think a seiko diver would fit in your collection nicely. They’re built tough, and can be the absolute beater you’re looking for. They also won’t break the bank. Hamilton is another brand that would fit in nicely. Look forward to see what you do next.

You're right that 22mm to 16.5mm is too much taper. 4mm is about right i.e. 20mm to 16mm. 22mm to 18mm. Or thereabouts. I came here for the Farer but man 50m of water resistance just isn't enough for me.

You don't have a digital watch. Given your wardrobe, I could see you pulling off something like a Casio "casioak" or a fancy G-shock "square" of some kind (even with a tie). Or maybe some kind of ani/digi like a Casio Lineage, those things are total GADA BEASTS!

  • @sebastiannowakowski5084

I like how you said the CW is almost feminine. It was my first impression out of the box: sophisticated nearly feminine on my 7.5 inch wrist. The watch wears smaller than the advertised 41mm is the L2L is short and I agree on the leather taper. I went with green Aquitaine on brown leather and part of me regrets not getting the bracelet for a more rugged look. The other part of me doesn’t like bracelets as I work on a laptop most of the time and I found the taper To be a bet too much. However on the leather one is toeter more taper. This is holding me off from buying a tropic strap from CW as I believe it has the same lack of taper. The leather looks ‘ok’ but it is very very comfortable to be honest. In general the watch punches above its grade especially since I bought it at 728 eur new from their yearly sale. Nice review!

Cool watch but It's expensive a bit.I think the 5 atm is enough for everyday watch, not to go in swimming pool. The 3 atm wouldn't be already so okay. I'm sure it would match this strap: czcams.com/video/lMNpBSdDTPc/video.html I also like white with orange and the colours in case of watches. Wouldn't you like to buy such Barton strap...? I'd see it. :)

  • @tom7719

A screw down crown has nothing to do with the water resistance of a watch. It only serves to prevent the crown from accidentally getting pulled out under water.

Nice video! I like your take on how a smaller, dressy-ish watch on bracelet like this totally works in a lot of situations and doesn't have to scream "TOOL watch." Too funny about the green vs blue too. I picked up the green a few weeks ago and loooooove how it's on the edge between green and teal, since the classic pure green of a Rolex Hulk just didn't do it for me. The subtley of it being between two colors is awesome. I even went into the store expecting to pick the blue one as a "safe" choice lol. Your blue looks great.

I got the Discovery II (39.5mm) and will have a video that looks into the dial coming up shortly. One thing worth noting about these Farer three-handers is that they are all dial, with minimal or invivisble bezels. Compare that to CW and many others where there is more metal enshrouding and reducing the dial size. For this reason, the three-hander from Farer looks bigger than it really is. So I thought to myself, could I have gone with the 36mm instead? Dial-size, yes. But then the other dimensions of the watch would have made it feel diminutive. It's a lesson I got from the Tudor BlackBay 54, where its dial is small, but its outer dimensions -- the lug-to-lug length in particular -- makes it a watch that fits medium-large wrists too. So the downsizing, as a trend, I don't think exists. Smaller watches fit some people better, but not all people. Just like large watch fits some people, but not all people. It's not a zero sum game.

My silicon strapped Barton has twice now had the small silicon bands that hold the strap end start to tear. I asked Barton if they have any replacements they said no. I guess I'm getting SAMCO's, at least they will be cheaper with that wear problem.

love the variety and how much thought you put into the type of collection overall you wanted. I wonder if you should look into something vintage. 100% Agreement over the price point. This is a $400-$500 dollar watch without a metal strap. For a thousand dollars you can get so many other watches by more reputable watch companies. This is just my opinion. They’ve sold out on these though. So, they must be doing well. The NUMBER 1 it factor for me however is that it comes in 36mm which I feel is the best unisex size case! Too few watches are offered in this size anymore and these days unisex is between 38-42mm. It’s way too big and loud.. again opinion. I’m all for the sly reach out, cuff of shirt come up and something sleek and sexy pops out.. not a monstrosity

Not a knockoff. Both straps are made by the same. Chinese manufacturer. That’s how Ali Express works. I would not buy the Samco...just because they do not offer the shorter strap.

    • @benldr
      @benldr Před 6 měsíci

The Samco come with the longer strap but with more holes than the longer version you Barton so the longer strap is both able to be worn longer and it has more holes for a smaller wrist. And like you sat they are both made by the same factory so the quality is the same. It's not worth 5x the cost for a redundant strap to me.
