    This is a great machine. Once potholed the engine really wakes up and you really get to enjoy the car. Its a shame you did not keep/pothole this one as it was really well kept inside and out which is hard to find for this color combo. Also comfort driver and passenger is somewhat hard to find. Only thing with these car that could be a deal breaker is maintenance costs. If you are not mechanically inclined it could get costly. I have owned one for 2 years now 140k on it and I enjoy driving it a lot. Turbo whistle turns heads at the boat ramps and it really pulls once deleted. I'm sure someone from the Facebook group would gladly let you drive a potholed one. I assume you follow the group if you know the term "pothole".

I used bimmertech MMI prime in my previous F10 M5 and so far it was the most stable and successful retrofit but it’s too expensive. I have dual SB16U now and if I’m being honest, I did not feel the second SB16U added a huge difference. I felt the advantage was that I did not need to crank the subs so high to get the same output of a single sub. I would feel a big difference if I move the second sub near the couch but that’s not possible right now in my case. I’m actually considering selling one of the subs and just keep one and crank it up a little let it do some workout. Eventually I would like to move to 18” sub but I absolutely enjoy the convenience of controlling the subwoofers from remote or the phone app. With a toddler in the house, I can control the volume whenever I want in order to not make a big disturbance in the quiet of the night! @@shunkar1787 yeah unfortunately the camera view doesn’t kick automatically when sensors go off. It only appears when you put the car in reverse. Maybe they can and cause screen to flip to camera view but they’re just lazy or not smart enough. However, I had this same scenario even in the MMI prime CarPlay box from bimmertech when I installed it on my F10 M5 which leads me to believe it’s just a limitation of how much they can read from the CANBUS. Until recently i had a e70 4.8i, fully optioned, and it had a fancy adaptive power steering which was hydraulic and electric assist i believe, and on the hwy the steering ratio was slow and heavy, but in t8ght streets or carparks the steering was light and super fast ratio (less than 1 turn to full lock). Made the vehicle feel very light and nimble. Also the ZF trans need regular servicing. Had mine se4viced eith new solenoids etc and it was amazing. Very smooth and intuitive in D, but in sport mode it became an animal with lightning fast shifts and very fun to drive. This car was a carmax car and i took for 24 hour test drive but I did not end up buying it. Last year I bought a 2020 X5 50i and recently developed the jitter/stutter effect from the transfer case. I took it to the dealer and asked them to exchange the transfer case fluid but the problem came back and seems like texas heat was making it get worse slowly. Anyways, I flashed xDelete on my car couple days ago and the problem went away but right now my car is basically a rear wheel drive only. I'm fine with that since I live in texas but definitely something to look out for when buying one. It's most noticeable when backing out while the steering wheel is full lock left or right then you'll feel jitter in the drivetrain. It seems most common on the 2019-2020 years and mostly 50i variant. Other than that, the car is superb. If you have a warranty then it will cover the transfer case failure but I did not buy an extended warranty so I am trying to work around that until I decide to trade the car. Transfer case repair runs around $8k-$10k.

    • @GrindMyGears
      @GrindMyGears Před 4 měsíci

      Thanks for reaching out! Couple reasons I sold it! First, I can’t seem to hold onto a car more than 2 years 😅 second, I replaced the thermostat and quickly realized how much of a pain is to work on this car because of the EGR and all emissions related items sitting on and around the engine. If you’re ok with deleting the emissions related stuff then go ahead and buy it!! It’ll be much more reliable, much easier to work on and it’s a blast to drive. I truly loved this car which is unusual for me but I moved for to a 2020 X5 50i and deep down I know the e70 looked better and drove better. The G05 is much more plush (air ride) and the tech is amazing plus bowers and Wilkins audio is incredible. Those are pretty much the highlights of the G05 platform if you get it loaded.

    2018 M550i, 63k miles so far, all mine, make sure you take care of ALL of the preventative maintenance and it will treat you well. The only issue in the last 6 years (aside from premium fuel costs) has been the lighting (interior: ambient) needing a cleaning to remove dark spots, brake pads at 35k, changing out coils and spark plugs, plus battery around 50k miles, and naturally not cheap oil changes. So far so good.

There was a strong smell of grease because the electric steering rack got cracked and was so hard to turn the wheels. $11k and couple month later the car was driving but it just didn’t feel the same as before so I traded it in.

    Honestly, I did not think this would work, but I was desperate. I went ahead and removed the airbag panel and made the slit and jiggled a screwdriver a few times while pulling the outside door handle, and voila! I could have probably been more careful removing the panel, but I was more concerned with opening the door than damaging the door panel. I replaced the locking mechanism with a used one from eBay, and bought a VDO actuator from FCP Euro. This is my second time replacing the actuator, however the first time I bought a cheap one on Amazon, which is probably what ultimately caused the lock to go into the double lock position. So if you are replacing an actuator, buy a quality actuator and save yourself a big headache in the future.

      I would stay away from the 50i produced in those years. I would get the inline 6 gasoline engine. Why? It’s easier to maintain in the stock form and performance is better overall. The diesel is fun to have but maintenance in stock form is pricy and it’s a bit slow. It has a character that’s for sure though.

Either get a smaller sub or bigger mains or you will never be able to get them to play well together without the sub overpowering the mains.
