Revell Big Boy Locomotive Model: Full Build and Review
The Union Pacific Big Boys were constructed during the Second World War and were designed to haul long trains over the Wasatch Range unassisted. They are among the largest and most powerful steam locomotives ever built, with a 4-8-8-4 wheel arrangement.
Several Big Boy locomotives have survived into preservation, while number 4014 is operational.
Revell's 1:87 model kit can be built to depict 4006 or 4023. Although a relatively basic build that lacks some detail, this model truly captures the look of the Big Boys and can be painted and weathered to achieve rather realistic results.

Building a 4x8 HOn3 Narrow Gauge Layout

Over the course of two years, I constructed this small layout depicting Colorado's famous Georgetown Loop in HOn3 scale. To accommodate a small space, I condensed the loop concept into a 4x8 model railroad. This video highlights the important steps in the progression of the layout's construction, and includes some tips and techniques for scenery and model railroad design. shop.whiteriverproduct...

    I want to put together a Titanic model in a similar way you did. This video, along with your video on what rigging to use when building the model are very helpful. With that said, could you make another video in which you provide tips on creating a model like this? Such as tips when using the Flyhawk kit and putting the model together? That would be amazing and such a help. Thank you!

      @@artm7171 Hello! This is actually the 1:400 Academy model but I used the stand from an old 1:350 kit that I had. The decks were from an enhancement kit for the 1:400 model by Flyhawk, but there are definitely wood decks that you can get for the 1:350 kit too. Below is a link to one of the options. You basically just cut out the deck and glue it over the plastic. www.ebay.com/itm/314468186169?chn=ps&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&amdata=enc%3A1f5BaqcKaSrmMThB60BjTyg64&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=314468186169&targetid=1583904486362&device=m&mktype=pla&googleloc=9028740&poi=&campaignid=21214277413&mkgroupid=162743717513&rlsatarget=pla-1583904486362&abcId=9407520&merchantid=420514550&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD_QDh_rD4JqxGRoL_Rk0uWLksrQY&gclid=Cj0KCQjw7ZO0BhDYARIsAFttkChEbIAiNH2QNA2uTyAuBi6CtcTzT6dyzgJRYNMInYp14fJS7gqu8TgaAjcxEALw_wcB

    I'm too old to have done this with the models that were made to sink. I had to use a 1:350th and hold on to to it throughout the entire sinking if I wanted it to sink right. Left to it's own devices, the 1/350 would capsize & slowly sink sideways, and who wants that?! 🤣 I suppose I could have added weights, compartments and whatnot while building the 1/350 to make it float & sink correctly, but I was a lazy kid, and had no ingenuity.

    • @historicalmodeler1483
      @historicalmodeler1483 Před 27 dny

      I think you’re referring to the bollards- they have oval bases with 2 pegs on them and are black. These were constructed from parts F18 on the Flyhawk kit and the tiny brass posts that are in a small plastic bag. They have to be built and don’t come preassembled in the kit. Hopefully this helps but let me know if you were referring to something else!

    Loks great. Just a lil' nick pick you may build apon in the future, the different rock formations form photos I've seen appear to be a mix of the traditional gray basement rock, and pink granite. Just a lil' nick pick I swear! Just kiddin'. I aint gonna critique without giving you some resources 'cuz that'd be unfair, so here's mine: Myron Cook, a geologist that has a channel here. He goes into details bout the various rock formations encase you're interested. Also I'm now noticing how popular narrow gauge is becoming...must be something in the air...personally, I found myself to like the scenic vista's that 3ft gauge offers.
