    very fast and the bit where you delete a part (at 1.13) is super quick and I did not hear what you say. I have watched it multiple times on slow and still that section removes both the top and bottom of the box for me so I do not get the finger joints on the bottom. Clearly I have missed some part of the instruction somewhere. It is worthwhile mentioning that the script for finger joints needs to be separately installed. To get through this, I needed to go to another tutorial to figure out what you did to delete only the top.

    • @AlnisSmidchens
      @AlnisSmidchens Před 3 měsíci

      Thank you for the feedback! I say "use the delete part feature to delete the skeleton cube and clean up the part studio in preparation for using the laser joint feature." You can turn on captions by selecting the CC button on your device, or pressing C if you are on a desktop. If you are missing the bottom of the box, you probably need to apply a thicken feature to the bottom face before the delete part feature. You can check the "Final CAD Model" link in the video description to see the full model, make a copy of the document, and modify/investigate it as needed. Yes, in future videos I'll make sure to mention that instruction --- while it's in the video description, it seems that isn't a very clear place to check. Hope this helps, and thank you for watching!

    So how did you keep the space infinite? As in is this procedurally generated?

    • @AlnisSmidchens
      @AlnisSmidchens Před 4 měsíci

      It is a static/handmade world, but the edges are designed to wrap around smoothly. The shape of the world is a cube/box. There is a "real" world in the neighborhood of the origin, and 26 visual-only copies of the world arranged around that center world, and when the player controller reaches a boundary of the "real" world, the player is teleported backwards by 1 "world width" to maintain the illusion of an infinite world. I might explore procedural generation in the future too. Let me know if that doesn't make sense, sorry it's a bit tricky to explain!

      Thanks! The trick is to find easy ways of doing things, and reusable snippets from other projects. For example, the character controller (movement/camera) is one I had built for a different project, and copied in here. That way, most of the time goes towards making new/different things from what I've done before.

    When I check adaptive pin sizing the finger joints don’t populate. When I uncheck they do. Is there something I am missing? Also I’m trying to build a card holder for a game with 3 divisions. Is there a feature to eventually space out the dividers. Or do I have to figure out the math myself.

      It's a bit tough to know from this description. Could you post on the Onshape Forum (forum.onshape.com) and ping me @auxiliarymoose? For spacing things out, you could try a pattern: cad.onshape.com/help/Content/linearpattern.htm Note that you can create variables to help with the calculations, e.g. make a variable #spacing and set it to a function of other variables: #total_length / #divider_count

    • @GentleStorm1
      @GentleStorm1 Před 8 měsíci

      I’m not the OP, but a) it’s a good video for experienced OnShape (OS) users, and b) you asked a really good question in response to the comment. In response to your question, MY expectation from your current video title was that I’d be able to follow along with a tutorial and, in 10 minutes, be able to create a CAD drawing of a wood table in OS. Neither the title nor description indicated a skill level, but I was at least familiar with all of the terms and how they related to the software. However, once the video started, I was lost at Feature Script (FS). I rewound the video to watch your steps to get to FS dialogue, and then figured out how to find a list of them in OS, but I couldn’t figure out how to read or use the files. I also reviewed titles of your other videos hoping to find something about how to use FS, but didn’t see anything (but noted that you commented elsewhere that you need to learn how to better employ FS before you can make a video about it). So, my response here is aiming to be as thoughtful and constructive as you are in your videos. You are very good about explaining information and why you’re doing what you’re doing (I think I watched one about APIs and remember how you briefly explained what metadata is and why you agreed to allow Google/Confluence, etc. to access it); you also do it in a very neutral, calm, and informative tone. Were I to create a video - and there are plenty of reasons I don’t ;-) - I might consider adding “competencies” to the description area (such as, “to successfully complete this tutorial, the viewer should already know how to…”). I know that not everybody reads the descriptions before watching the video and you’re probably more familiar with the analytics than I am, so the suggestion is offered knowing that I know I don’t know how useful it really is. I do hope you continue teaching others in some fashion or another because you’re very good at it AND you seek to improve!
