How long does your kiteboarding safety line have to be

I know I said "knot" several times in the video. Please do not tie a knot. You can splice a knot in, but if you tie an actual knot into the line it will break. You can use either a red stopper or do like I do and just splice in a knot which is ok. Don't tie knots it will break your lines.

The first rule of untangling you foil kite, is don't tangle your foil kite. Nice technique for confined space!
So with this plug in do your neighbours can hear trumpet sound?
No. It's quieter than someone talking.
Doesn’t seem all that fun. 😂
Cute ass cat bro 😊
There is something really beautiful about this video. Quite the hidden gem, thank you for making this.
That cat was personal 💀
czcams.com/video/9n9SKqYHgPA/video.htmlsi=SLMBvD5cVVgAUqmN check out this link for an excellent string suggestion. D'Daddrio XTC46FF hard tension strings allow an E tuned guitarlele. You should watch the whole thing but if you just want the strings those are the ones he suggests.
Love it. Was that you on the duotone board? @2:47

Would be curious how well each of these flag out with the minimum measured lengths you mention. I used to fly Core kites and that bar uses a 2-line flagout that offsets the two center lines by a few meters. But they specifically use pulleys on all their bridles and even then I've had it fail to flag properly. These days I use a North Navigator bar, with 22m lines on a 10/12 split. Never had an issue flagging up to a 15m kite, which by your measurements seems to check out.
That core system is too complicated for me to calculate!
Interesting topic Eric. Really dislike self rescuing when the bar runs up the cl all the way to the kite. Also feel like it's unsafe because it delays getting lines wrapped around the bar and increases the potential of getting lines tangled around your legs. Good job
ty. I wasn't sure anyone would watch this, glad you liked it.
@@bonerici yea man, I knew exactly what you were doing with this. Always felt like there should be a standard for stopping bar travel on a self rescue rather than following it all the way to the kite

Knots in Dyneema only reduce the strength by a little worse than half. Worst I've seen in break tests (check out HowNot2) is about 30% strength after a knot. New lines are usually rated to a half-ton, so it probably won't break on you - until you REALLY can't afford to let it break, like during a big jump, megaloop, or six months of wear later when you're a few miles off the coast...
where am i gonna hide that giant can on my vehicle??
you know where to stick it
How do you calibrate it to have a specific angle between each virtual sun and the next?
you dont. What you do is measure all of the angles, write them down somewhere. Then when you shoot the sun, you take note of the time (the angle of course stays fixed) and when you take the proper reading, note that time, now you have the precise angle and the precise time. You can't change the angle, whatever it is, that's what it is.
Thank you.
Good work
Just watched your vid on violin vibrato. I guess I can say that vibrato on a Hammond organ is very easy to add; you just flip a tab for whichever keyboard you want vibrato on, and it's there. However, the real problem is HOW do you get vibrato on an immutable pitch instrument such as a Hammond? Short answer is, you must first send the audio signal through a multi-tap phase shift line, and then sequentially scan all the taps on the delay line in sequence, both forward and reverse. The result is a signal that has a continuous, ever-changing phase shift, both slightly behind and then slightly leading, resulting in a true frequency modulation at the scan rate, which is also the vibrato rate. All things considered, I think making vibrato on a stringed instrument where you can cyclically vary the effective vibrating length of the string is a lot simpler.
Very interesting indeed. I just subscribed to your channel. I enjoyed the tour through your music studio; obviously you have put a lot of time and effort into getting a nice setup that suits your needs. I saw that you have a video about violin vibrato. I must check that out which I will do now. And, since I am a true connoisseur of puns, I have to say I got a good laugh out of your cat being inbred! Very clever. Only thing wrong with it is that I didn't think of that first! Eric L, the Hammond Guy

Hello Eric! First of all, sorry for my English, I'm not a native speaker :D I just bought the VXLR+, but I cannot get it to sound (properly). The chain is: Mute -> VXLR+ -> Behringer UMC 404 hd (+48 V). The Behringer UMC 404 hd is not the best audio interface, but it should do the job... The sound is really, really bad, with lots of weird noise and the trumpet volume is very low. I checked the inputs with a condenser mic and it works fine. I don't know what's wrong, so I'm a bit worried about the mute. Is it probably broken by the phantom power? That would be strange as the mute mic works on 3V and the VXLR+ converts 48V to 3-5V, so it should work... I also tried adjusting the gain knob, attenuation pad, line/inst pad... But no luck. Does anyone have similar problems? Any idea what is happening?
you have to split the stereo cable into 2 mono signals and only use one of the mono signals. I didn't make that clear in the video.
I forget if it's the left channel or right channel that yamaha uses, but try both of them. One will be quiet the other will be the one with the signal.
@@bonerici Many thanks for your quick response! Now the sound is quite better, but the electrical noise is still there, I will continue to investigate. If anyone has any suggestions, I would be grateful to read them. Thank you!
@@jorger24998 I have two different yamaha mutes, neither makes any noise at all. I suspect a bad stereo cable. But I'm sure you know how to do your own diagnostics.
Looks like you put the killswitch where the Volume knob usually is. So I’m guessing you re-wired the Volume into the middle knob and made the final tone knob control all pickups?
I added the tone back again and will make another video with circuit diagram
@@bonerici Awesome! Yeah that video and diagram would be a lifesaver. I love your specific setup and want to go for it. Thanks! 🤘

What happen if for some reason you have to let go of the line ?
kite goes downwind until it hits something and stops. Make sure there's nobody downwind of you when you do this. If there are, try an alternative landing method. Of course if you have a friend to land your kite that's always better.
@@bonerici What would not be safer for your kite and others if you keep the safety leash connected on the safety line - disconnect the Chicken Loop from your harness so that the kite looses all the tension and walk with your hands over the safety line(as you show) until you reach your kite, in case you have to let the safety line go for some reason, the kite is still connected on the safety line so you do not loose your kite but you can give another try to reach your kite with the same procedure?
If the safety loops around your foot or the spreader hook, it can be a problem. If there are people downwind of you, I would kite to a different landing location or find a kiter to land me, or even flag out in the water.
@@bonerici Yes, I agree, if there is no space on the beach the self landing should be done in the water. Here is the full explanation of the method of the safe self landing of the kite, if you follow the safest steps(leaving all the lines downwind of yours self) there is nothing dangerous that can happen... czcams.com/video/PBdNC24qp6w/video.html
What a simple idea; but brilliant ;-)
I feel like you would progress faster with a better instrument?
I wasn't sure I would stick with it. I'm ready for an upgrade now though
Dont wiggle your wrist. Pinch the neck of the violin with your thumb and finger making the note. With that anchor, now you are free to rock your hand back and forth. Wrist will see little to no motion. Kinda like your whole forearm and hand moving together with your fingertip as the pivot point
Also of course, the weight of the violin will be entirely supported by your chin and shoulder. So your hand shouldnt have to hold the instrument up
i've been playing for 8 years, 40 mins a day, 6 days a week and i have only just started to feel decent. you're doing well for a beginner. have a look at your bowhold and intonation. focus on tone quality (eg. playing close to the bridge) so you can sound more "confident".

Me too
I use this technique with my BRM C2 and Slingshot UFO and it's probably the only way to self land safely and consistently with strutless kites.
Your thumbnail gives you away. We all know you faked your death, Mr. Robin Williams.
So the low E, is the stock string tuned down to E? Isn't it too sloppy?
Yes the low E is too sloppy but it's just one string. For me it's worth it to be able to practice songs in the correct key and you get more transfer of skills back to the dreadnought.
Thank you!
HI Can you tell me what alternative device you plugged the mute into after you fitted the Rode VXLR+ please ?
that's just an ordinary audio input device with phantom power and XLR connectors. You know like the fousrite or presonus. There are about 100 decent audio input devices to choose from I'm no expert on which is best, but I think they all work pretty well.
@@bonerici Thanks for your reply - Once connected to my audio input device how do I listen to what I'm playing live? - On your video you are looking at your monitor - are you playing back a recording or monitoring live via headphones. I just can't see how to do it yet, your guidance would be appreciated!. Thanks a lot from the UK
@@user-pb2gm8ok6v you want some kind of audio program. I use ableton live but free ones work too
For someone like you just use the yamaha box that comes with the mute. It's OK for practice and doesn't require all this additional stuff
