Trains at Cardiff Central - 13 Feb 2023
My first upload in a very long time sees some trains at Cardiff Central back on 13 February 2023!
The whole scene has now changed with the Castle HST sets now confined to the Cornish Mainline, the 769s have been replaced by brand new Stadler class 231s, and all the 175s have been replaced by the (inferior?) new CAF built class 197 units.

Midland Pullman's Heart of Wales tour seen at Newport and Cardiff Central on Saturday 17 July 2021. An incident during shunting at the depot the previous day meant one of the Blue Pullman Powercars was swapped for recently painted Staycation 43048. 43048 eventually failed part way along the Central Wales Line.

On Monday 7 June, the new Transport for Wales Mk4 set made it's first revenue earning services between Holyhead and Cardiff. It is seen at Newport with the first evening return journey from Cardiff to Holyhead. TfW have purchased some of the Mk4 sets that were intended for use with Grand Central and they have plans to run 5 coach sets between Swansea and Manchester,

Love these WAG trains, mainly like the 82 at the back xD I've seen them so much, and yet every single time something stupid happens and I don't get a vid of it, I saw it come through Conwy, my camera wasn't on so I couldn't film it; I saw it at Pensarn, and I freakin' missed the record button!!!! At this point I just want to get a good vid of it lol, great catch! 👍

Thanks for posting this, I was reading a short article about the ex Grand Central - LNER stock and TfW this afternoon. When you say 5 car, I'm assuming 5 + the DVT? Nice to see they are using a buffet vehicle and will have food on board. It's a shame the DVT can't be rebuilt with partial or all seating, seeing as it will only be doing 100 mph max so doesn't need the redundant space for crash protection that 125 running required. It's good to see they will still operate in the North West out of Manchester since Grand Central's Blackpool dreams on the WCML were shot down in flames by the Covid19 lockdown restrictions.
The news of the purchase was only announced on Monday and they might not have released all the details yet but I would assume it's going to be 5 coaches + DVT.
Since when we’re GWR still operating their HST’s
They work regional services between Cardiff and Penzance and have done since 2019.
The remaining ones are in short formations, known as the "Castle Class." You won't see any working through to London any more...all have had their slam-doors replaced by electric ones now. ScotRail have also acquired a few from GWR, and these have been given similar treatment, replacing 170 Turbostars on Glasgow/Edinburgh to Aberdeen/Inverness services.
5/10, 143s GARBAGE, the 153s are for any service, so in my view it should be 2 153s connected to the 150 make a pair with the 150s, instead of the crap that's those Pacers. I'm Actually really really impressed with the 150s in the new livery, and obviously the 769s, it captured a new phase in Cardiff's Rail Transport, along with the cool Freight Train mixed into it. Sorry if this offends people but the 143s are absolute rubbish.

I really want to know the temporary service patterns. It’s very very rare and fascinating and I can’t find information anywhere. XC, 387s and 165/166s in Swindon... that’s very rare!

Good video. Interesting to see GWR 387s as far as Swindon and in 12 car formations. Be great if the local Swindon rail user group will petitioned GWR to keep using the 387s on the route over the sHitachi 800 series. The 387s have got to be a better ride than 800s and 802s.
From what I've heard, the passengers have enjoyed having 387s to Swindon and a HST down to Bath and Bristol.

It was weird enough seeing the 319's, long stalwarts on Thameslink in the Home Counties, move to Liverpool and Manchester, seeing one or two operate as diesels as 769 hybrids is even more surreal!! Who'd have thought they'd eventually make their way to Cardiff when new, back in 1988?
