    I just followed your video. Changed out the carb. Was a 100% sure about the placement of the gaskets and the spacers and mine were pretty rotten. Long story short. It starts up revs twice and turns off. Any thoughts?

      @j.k.mcclead9207 Před 9 dny

      Sounds like its starving. Try setting the low and high screws. Gently screw both in until seated, turn both out 1-1/2 turns. For most saws it's a good starting point. Next is a bit more involved. Check the fuel line for kinks, and then check the needle/arm height. It may be set too low. It may take 4 -5 tries to get it to prime properly.

      You’re absolutely right. During the making of this video, I was going through some heavy duty chemo and barely had the strength to walk across the garage without needing a nap half way through. Resurrecting the saw was a cathartic effort to stave off the stir craziness and keep my mind focused. Video, audio, production quality and my voice were all sub par. The question is, did you glean any useful tidbits of information from the video despite the poor quality? If so, then it was worth the effort.

    Hey so on the mini macs are all the parts somewhat interchangable. Becuase i have a 25, 30, 35, 110, 120, and a angry beaver 2.0. My goal is to get the 25(its my dads first chainsaw and my first mini), 120, and the angry beaver working realible. If i cant get them all running.

    • @j.k.mcclead9207
      @j.k.mcclead9207 Před měsícem

      There are some minor differences between the models. The 25 & 30 are 1.9ci. The 35 on up are 2.0ci. The clutches on the mini 25, 30 & 35 are spin on type and the 110 on up are held on with a left handed nut. Carbs, coils and all other parts are interchangeable

    Can you tell me what were you checking with the gauge attached to the fuel inlet fitting? Was it vacuum or pressure of 10 on the gauge ? Thanks

    • @j.k.mcclead9207
      @j.k.mcclead9207 Před měsícem

      Pressure. In order to know if the needle is properly seated and that the carb itself is sealed completely, about 10lbs of pressure is pumped into the fuel inlet. If pressure is maintained for more than 10 minutes with minimal loss, then it should be good.

    @mineralman2JJD Před 2 měsíci

    Thanks for sharing this! There's very little information about this model on the internet, and much of what's out there is incorrect or questionable. I can't find an original manual or parts list, so videos like this are an asset. I recently got one of these saws from eBay and got it running with a little work. All of the head bolts and the bolts for the transfer port cover were backed off so it was sucking air like crazy! I also cut a new gasket for the port cover which was easy enough. I installed lock washers to keep things in place. I'll have to try your spring-in-the-hose trick when I pull the carb off for a rebuild.

  • @jesselippincott5821
    @jesselippincott5821 Před 2 měsíci

    Really appreciate the whole process you showed with this one! I recently picked up a 160s with the case and bar cover for $20, I really love tinkering with all sorts of mechanical things so I figured this would be a fun challenge. Your videos have been such a help for all the things that I've had questions about along the way, and all the little tips and tricks that only come with years of experience. Currently, I've got everything cleaned, the carb rebuilt and I'm getting a spark - started seeing some combustion for the first time yesterday when I cranked it up but I haven't gotten it to run yet. Two things that have happened along the way that I wonder if you've encountered or have a fix for: First, the threaded plastic piece has broken in half in the back of the handle - I assume someone over-tightened them at some point and cracked them. Is there any way to fix that or should I just look to buy a new handle? Second, when I first took everything apart and got it fully degreased/cleaned, I pulled the fuel pickup from the tank and haven’t found a new one. Is that something that needs to be replaced or will it run without it? I also was curious if there’s any type of fuel filter on these models or if that acts as a sort of filter as well

  • @JakePlisskin12

  • @JakePlisskin12
    @JakePlisskin12 Před 2 měsíci

    Yeah i cut my fuel like long as always then realize it kinked. Kept having to widdling it down. I always get worried about the tank plug outlet not seating for the fact that it so hard to get it off. So i plug it in the tank first then slide the engine in. Then just pull the tank out a little bit. Just enough to get a fish hook shapped pick to connect the throttle.

    So you can switch all the types of carburetors on all those mini mac. Because i have a mini mac 25 with a mdc-1 and a mini mac 35 with a mdc 6 carb. So it would run fine if i swapped the carbs. What about switching the coils and condensors? Becuase the 35 coil and condensore has a open loop. And i wanted to put the 25s on the 35. If that makes any sense. Idk i cant for the life of me get these things running. Im getting a mini mac 120 in a couple days for $25. Really hoping i can get that one running.

    • @j.k.mcclead9207
      @j.k.mcclead9207 Před 3 měsíci

      Yes, you can swap carbs. The MDC-1 through 6 have the same form factor (size) and if I’m not mistaken, the MDC-1 has a different rebuild kit than the later models. Coils, condensers and points are interchangeable between all (Yellow cased) minis. For most models, the only difference is the sticker on the outside of the case. With the introduction of the Mac Mini-35, the engine displacement was increased to 2.0 C.I. (32cc). All models prior were 1.9 C.I. , but everything else is the same inside the case.

    I have one of these and it's got this same barrel on the idle adjust screw. I had it running great yesterday, but then decided to try to make it run better. Big mistake. Now I'm having trouble getting it to run well again! How many turns out would be a good starting point? (I wasn't smart enough to count before I fouled everything up. Argh!)

    • @j.k.mcclead9207
      @j.k.mcclead9207 Před 3 měsíci

      Gently screw both high and low in until seated, then turn both out 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 turns, the should be a good starting point for most saws. The low side does 85% of the load, so start there first.
