    What size tabs/micro joints are you using to keep the parts from flying all over the place and or dropping into the bottom of the machine? I’m on a 20KW phoenix laser cutter from LVD, and everything’s cuts great. But we can’t seem to master cutting aluminum, as far as keeping parts in the sheet after they are cut

    • @LaserDaveHD
      @LaserDaveHD Před 2 měsíci

      @@outdoorlifeproductions7982 I try and use minimal size tabs in parts. When I create a cut condition I do a couple of things. When you are satisfied with the cut condition, nozzle and gas. Measure the part and you will have the cutter comp. While I am doing this I add micro tabs to the part so I can add all this information to the notes for this cut condition. Important to remember that nozzle size, gas pressure, focal and speed will affect every material differently.

    Today i was tweaking parameters for 1.6 mm aluminum, ended up cutting with 10 bar compressed air at 660 ipm, focal point -0.04, minimal dross but cant quite get rid of it. 1500 watts raycus, bm111 head. 1.5 single nozzle

    • @LaserDaveHD
      @LaserDaveHD Před 2 měsíci

      Everything sounds great. Remember aluminum will almost always have some dross. Tip: go more on your negative focal, don’t be afraid of going too much.

    All the material shown in this video was done with 80 PSI compressed air. I really liked the outcome of the aluminum tube that was powder coated.

    Here in my town i've seen many industries cutting with around 100 psi (we use Bar to measure, which is around 7.0). Using air is way cheaper but have to deal with others issues like humidity and oil on protective lenses. Thanks for your content, really apreciate.

    I do use less N2 than industry standard, which is 99.5. 2kW and increased gas pressure would increase speed and cut quality. I try to achieve the fastest speeds with the least possible gas pressure.

  • @SixStringers
    @SixStringers Před 4 měsíci

    Your N2 150 PSi is lower than manufacturer specs 203-223 PSi, the lens you use is 1.5 vs 2.5 manufacturer's specs... all good news... What you are showing is in sharp contradiction to other manufacturers' settings, but it looks like it works for you with a 1.5Kw Raycus. Likely would work even better with a 2Kw. Would have liked to see a really close up view of the cut edge... and walking in the settings to achieve the best edge possible that would not require 2nd step. Also, the N2 quality... is it industrial 99.5? or other? Do you think you would get improved results using a two stage regulator? And N2 filtering? I notice you do not wear laser safety glasses... especially with something like aluminum a stray bounced beam is not fun.

    Is it safe to cut aluminum over a long period of time and repeatedly? what your power source? thanks

    • @LaserDaveHD
      @LaserDaveHD Před 11 měsíci

      It is highly recommended to use an exhaust fan especially with aluminum. We use IPG, but can use and install any power source.

    • @LaserDaveHD
      @LaserDaveHD Před 4 měsíci

      Most cut conditions specify 300 PSI N2. Truth is most are wasting too much. Try and cut with lower PSI and smaller nozzle to minimize your gas consumption.

      @@LaserDaveHD For what I am doing .125" 6061 AL... they say N2 @ 223PSi w/2.5mm nozzle, but you cut it @150 PSi with a 1.5mm nozzle. I am not sure you cut 6061, and not sure if it was .125"... but it looked that way.

    • @LaserDaveHD
      @LaserDaveHD Před 4 měsíci

      6061 will be a little different than 5052 what I cut in the video. Bigger nozzle will give you more CFM which will be more gas. What is your focal? kW of power? Speed?

    • @SixStringers
      @SixStringers Před 4 měsíci

      @@LaserDaveHD Kw is 2K... have not worked out the focus distance yet, I am new at this. But my novice guess is since the material is .125" I would start at -.125 I heard that the 60 and 50 series AL is easier than the others. I prefer if possible to go with the 1.5mm nozzle and try and save SCFH. Only have gas cylinders for starters and 9 minutes off a 300 using 15 Bar with a 2.5mm nozzle is horrific, assuming that is in the ballpark for consumable.
