      Hello, it's Prores HQ 10-bit. Prores RAW workflow requires extra steps for Davinci Resolve but we plan on testing it in the future.

    I was interested in the comparison between the 6k n-raw and h265 and prores which max out at 5.4k instead of 6k. The n-raw was a lot better in the comparison but I wonder if the difference was partially as a result of the resolution difference? Since the advantage of 6k n-raw also held over prores, I think it's the in camera processing more than the h265 compression causing the degradation. I would be so interested to see a comparison of 8k n-raw from the z8 to 8k 4:2:2 500mbps with the Sony a1 to see if Sony's processing is any better.

      The resolution plays a role but N-Raw in UHD is also a bit sharper than H265 in UHD.

      @@cinematools9621 I believe the n-raw full width in 4k is line skipped or pixel binned, so if it's sharper than h265 uhd oversampled, that would be really interesting.

      @@LY121688 you're correct, 4K N-Raw looks worse than ProRes and H265. It appears sharper on a full screen but when I zoom in I see a lot of artifacts in the image.

      @@LY121688 for these types of videos I don't transcode N-Raw. If I need to, I typically use DnxHQ 12-bit.

    Yep, nice test. Something that I missed, the sport plus e stabilisation is very very good. Might even say as good as gimbal. I saw perhaps 1-2 little jump, but perhaps they should tweak the algo a little bit or crop a little bit more.

    By far the best test yet - very clarifying for me. The flicker issues are prevalent but only when you're actively looking for them - I think this issue is a bit overblown. Otherwise the IQ is beautiful, detailed without excessive sharpening or moire, great highlight rolloffs and detail is preserved well at higher ISOs.

      @@minktronics H265 might look cleaner but I prefer the texture and noise pattern of N-Raw. It looks very organic if exposed properly, almost like film grain. It's hard to tell with CZcams compression but you can check our blog for the still images. The link is in the description.

    I prefer Leeming LUT my only issue is to get proper exposure (they recommend exposing to the right) its like 3 stops brighter than a standard in camera slog3 to 709 display assist. You're video shows you're using the same iso for each of the LUTS.

      3 stops over is clipping the highlights. The camera was set to base ISO.

    I’ve done a lot of testing and I find out that prime lenses are way better than zoom lenses with stabilization. Sony and Samyang prime lenses works better than Sony and Sigma zoom lenses in all stabilization modes.

      Dehancer is very flexible allowing you to dial the look with many parameters. It may require more work than other plugins depending on the footage.

    I've come back to this video lots & decided not to get the Zf b/c it was so blurry compared to the Z8. How do you think the Z6iii would fair against the Z8, now that it's been released? Do you think there would be any improvement in h265 UHD?

      I wouldn't call ZF soft but compared to Z8 it's definitely not as sharp. We're getting Z6III soon and the video should be available next month.

      Thanks. No NDs, exposure was adjusted via shutter speed. NDs usually affect the color and sometimes sharpness.

    Thanks for the comparison. Nothing from the list is giving a feel of the film. Sometimes Dehancer is littlle bit closer than others. But still it feels like processed digital, not film.

    I’m considering FilmBox, I already have FC Nitrate and Dehancer. I’ve noticed that Dehancer’s daylight-balanced Vision3 seem woefully unbalanced. I shoot real 16mm film, so I know what it should look like. The tungsten Vision3 seem better if a tad warm. FilmBox almost always looks convincing when I see it used.

      We noticed the same thing with Dehancer. The FX3 profile is better than the A7S III one. Filmbox is amazing, it requires the least work to get good-looking and convincing results. They also run sales of their products multiple times a year.

      @@cinematools9621 I wish Dehancer would revisit some of their profiles. It seems like their model is more focused on having a large number of film stocks, which is unfortunate, because one or two really good ones would be better. I do think that their pipeline works well, the grain, halation and bloom all do a good job, but the profiling lets it down somewhat.

    'Flat' seems to have the most natural-looking skin tones. I would have thought flat would just be desaturated.

      You can easily make V-Log skin tones look like Flat if you want to but Flat itself is very limited for color grading and dynamic range. Not every project requires Log, but if you put your clips in NLE using Log is as easy as any other profile.

      @@cinematools9621 Thanks for your reply. I'm really noticing a green shift on most of the vlog luts with this camera, and on so many people's videos who use this camera. So the reason I liked 'flat' the most was simple because it's the one which made her skin look most natural to me. What I'd love is a lut for vlog which matched that more natural skin tone but could still keep the extended DR of vlog. Yours are great, but in this example if you look at just her skin on the flat lut, it looks the most natural i think. I think*

    Does it matter the AGE of the Sony native lens? Does it have to be a newer lens, released since this camera was released? I'm getting a Sony 16-35mm 2.8 and am debating between the GM and GMII. I can get a Used GM for much cheaper.

      Yes, 33x versions can be uploaded to a camera for a preview. We haven't tested S5 II X but it's the same sensor with the same color science, so it should be compatible.

      Thank you. Sometimes we use an external monitor with false color but even without it, the general rule is to protect the highlights and keep the skin tones well exposed. You can use Zebras for this. Also, it's always better to overexpose than under as long as the highlights don't clip. If you're using Davinci Resolve for editing and grading, dial exposure before the LUT. Use Offset or HDR exposure wheel instead of Lift, Gamma, and Gain - it's more organic and will look better. It's similar to adjusting exposure in the camera except you have more control over the image. We might create an exposure and white balance guide in the future.

    Good video. At 0:55 you could see the pink artifacts in the 8-bit footage. Nice demonstration. I'm saving this to demonstrate to others the differences you can see between 8-bit, 10-bit, and the various codecs.

    whats this "no picture profile" setting in the very first sample? There is no such setting in camera - when Picture Profile is off, you have to use one of the creative styles, and you have to specify which one you used!

    Not sure I would say XAVC-HS needs proxies - My macbook M1 with 16gb of ram eats it for breakfast, and that's not a particularly powerful macbook by today's standards

      Intel 13th 14th gen cpu all have h265 decoding. Super smooth even without expensive gpu.

      @@nightdonutstudio have you used it? I'm on 12th gen, so I cannot test it. I think proxies will still be better once you apply LUTs, effects, NR, etc.
