    Really good harvest, I planted late this year but I’m thinking I’ll be in full harvest mode in a few weeks. I don’t know if you can your foods or not, but I make my own tomato sauce and paste and just freeze them in containers, lasts 8 months to a year, a lot less work in my opinion. Thank you and they are DELICIOUS!!! The deeply colored squash taste very sweet without seasonings and the younger/pale (slightly underripe) ones taste more like a potato that’s slightly sweet. We were pleasantly surprised! The main way people cook them is by roasting in an oven or on a grill. We will be posting a taste test video of the Delicata very soon with 3 ways we prepared them!

    I love growing scotch bonnets! I grow too many to use fresh so I toss them in the freezer. I’ll sometimes get a couple slices from one and toss in back in the freezer bag or I’ll grab a whole frozen scotch or habanero and toss it in a stew or soup (I don’t allow it to burst) and it gives it an amazing pepper flavor that you think is about to get hot but then the heat never fully comes through, just the flavor.

    Is it not true that potatoes are very high in carbohydrates and that these are turned into sugars that enter the bloodstream easier than pure sugar ?

    • @WokeRemnantGardening
      @WokeRemnantGardening Před 23 dny

      Great question!!! The short answer appears to be “Yes.” According to a few articles that we’ve reviewed, the carbohydrates in potatoes convert into small traces of glucose and fructose (and some sucrose). If you are referring to pure sugar as “table sugar,” that is largely comprised of a simple sugar called sucrose which absorbs into the bloodstream slower than glucose and fructose. Very interesting question that we have not considered before - thanks for asking!

    Jim on Home Grown Veg on You Tube has a lot of good tips, especially regarding potatoes, but also lots of other veggies. He lives in England. For potatoes, he puts 2 inches of soil in a much smaller bucket or bag approximating 2 gallon size, and then puts in just one potato, mostly from store-bought potatoes that he later chits up. Most of the potatoes as you also saw, are in the middle. He does experiments as well which are interesting.

    Thanks for this! You are growing fabulous garlic, your bulbs are way bigger than other videos I watch!!! I really appreciate that you talked about what group the varieties are in, not just the old hard neck and softneck simplification! I reckon you are doing everything right to get garlic like that! Up here I grow all hard neck varieties including Porcelain, Rocombole, and True Purple Stripe. I generally like to pick when there are four or five green leaves remaining, as green leaves represent the number of intact wrappers around the bulbs.

We’re glad it was informative - there are lots of garlic varieties out there, so it’s always good to know which variety is most fitting for your interests and environment! Our hardneck garlic performed very well, so we’ll definitely be growing some more next season!! Of the varieties that you grow, do you have a favorite or favorites based on taste and size? @@WokeRemnantGardening My favourite for taste is in the Rocombole group, the variety is called Spanish Roja. Spanish Roja is often considered the finest tasting garlic of them all and is the garlic all others are judged by! It peels more easily than most other varieties, its down side is that it doesn’t store all that well so most people eat it first. My favourite garlic for size is in the Porcelain group, it’s called Big Boy. The bulbs of Big Boy are huge, even bigger than Music!

    I love this video. First garlic one I watched that added the information about type, history, etc. while you were digging. Very informative and fun to watch. I just harvested my first garlic three days ago. I had never done it before and made the mistake of sticking a few sunchokes in the same container, (an old leaky horse trough), so the chokes took over and I forgot about the garlic. I was a bit late in harvesting also but am so thrilled with what I got. I am peeling a few heads of it now to put in with my dill pickles. I do not know what kind it is though cuz I bought it from a bin on the side of the road last August. Zone 5B, I do think it was at least labeled Hard neck. Thanks for sharing your experiences!!
