I was 21 in 1968, two years away from emmigrating to Canada. The green corpy buses were the best! All I remember, except for Crosville and Ribble.
I worked the taxi rank next to the cafe in the seventies,i remember one day right out the blue this big limousine pulled up right by the taxi rank,a couple of big body guards got out and looked around and then Yoko Ono and her son got out and walked around for about five minutes and then all got back in the limousine and drove off
Loved going there as a kid walking down the wooden gantries before going to the match not the same know
Lovely to see. Sad a few pubs have gone.
On a Sunday as a teenager in the early 60's Me and a couple of mates would get a bus from Kirkby to the pier Head usually the 44D or the 19A ...we'd go there to catch pigeons (Sundays would always be dead )...we'd catch the ones with racing rings on their legs...(never the scraggs)...great memories of bunkin' on the ferry over to Birkenhead and back....remember the 1 O'clock gun?...Boom!...

There is another Rabbit Run from Bilston through Goldthorn Hill, Penn, Trysull and Claverley to Barnsley on the Bridgnorth-Wolverhampton road.
Hi Mr Pope. Love the video! I'm bringing out a song soon about my childhood in Liverpool in the 60s and I refer to the green buses in the chorus...I'd love to use parts of your video in the video for this song. Is there any way we could come to an arrangement? All the best, Phil Newton (My YT channel is @philnewton)
I'm Bonita Highley, yes, Highley
Fantastic thanks I was a 7 year old then
Oh me Liverpool home xxx xxxxxx
Wrexham and Shropshire wasn't killed off by Virgin Trains, it launched at a bad time with the worldwide economic collapse in full swing, the company suffered as a direct result and passenger numbers didn't support the continuing operation of the service sadly.
Didn’t realise it took me 30 minutes to get to school
I was eight year's old when you filmed this, and in my third year of school at St Anthony's, Scotland Road. Where my family lived at Penryn Street, my mother always used to take us by bus to the Pier Head for the ferry crossing to New Brighton.
The reference to owl Parky Lane at 3.05 brings back wonderful memories of my younger days working for a firm off Park Lane in Grayson Street in 1968. Though living in Kirkby at the time, I thought Park Lane had an incredible atmosphere. I was often taken to the Lord- De -Tabley pub by workmates during lunch hour. The images of the Pier Head are so familiar from a more settled time. It was safe to catch a late night bus there in 1968. Looking back, 1965 to 1980 was a wonderful period in our history. Employees were more appreciated, public services were reliable. Small business were no squeezed out by taxation or the giant supermarkets that would consumed most of their services and profits With work friends, we had a summer holiday in 1968 in the Isle of Mann during a very warm July. Would anyone remember the Falcon Cliff club, up the long steep walkway, or the Yates Wine Lodge at the end of main front road? Truly wonderful times
I loved this one Thank You
this is the year I was born its strange to see Liverpool before I was born or when I was tiny
Maybe a Canadian Pacific boat rather than a Bibby Line? One of the Empresses?
Can smell the doughnuts.
Neil Ya beat me to it. Those Doughnuts were to die for. Still warm and covered in Sugar. All the Bus drivers used to gather at the Caffe for a Brew. Happy days.
That’s how I remember the pier head going there in the 70s and early 80s I doubt I’d recognise it now 🙄😳
No you wouldn't carol tbh it's all changed now .😢
12 years old then , going over to New Brighton , great times ,Great City , Great People
Thanks for that Henry...I was 14 then and remember it well....Cheers from Sydney AU
Tune.born in Oxford street lived in waterloo all my life. Scouse and proud.
The memories happy days growing up in liverpool. Used to go to shiel road school thanks for uploading.
Re the Empress of England, at the landing stage. Looks like the Fireman/ boiler attendant needed to clean the oil burners or give the furnace a bit more fan, and maybe increase the fuel temperature by the look of that smoke!! 🤣🤣🤣
went to isle of man on that boat from pier head when i was a kid it was the worst experience of my life thought i was dying with sea sickness haha
I was born in 1963, living in Wallasey. A day out to Liverpool was a real adventure! First, the yellow Atlantean bus to seacombe then the ferry over followed by a green variation of the Atlantean. What memories! By the way Wallasey was the first to use the Leyland Atlantean bus.
Yes I was in secondary school in 1968.... Dingle Vale, we sneaked in to see the film IF..... Liverpool was great then!!
Piers head, the Beatles with the ship “Salvor” was shot here, part of musical history!
Absolutely loved it...what great memories.
Absolutely loved it...what great memories.
Thank you for video. More than 20years ago I've been drive my car this road to Qeenswood country park.
You left off my street
I was born in this year , ace to see what the world looked like when I came into it...I remember thous green buses though. and how the city looked reminds me of very early memories in the early 70's, looks the same.
1968, I was three in April of that year.
Thanks. Brings back memories of day trips to Liverpool and holidays in the IOM. Still my favourite city. Wish the river was busier though.
If I wasent home by10 i had to sleep on a bench at the pierhead then get the first ferry to Birkenhead for work at lairds great place to sleep
I was 3 years old and my grandad used to take me there, lovely memories of the pier head
It was a far better bus station than anything we have now. Pier Head was alive and kept people in touch with the river. Nowadays, you can live in Liverpool without ever seeing the Mersey.
Thanks for your kind remarks, sadly, following a spell in hospital a few months ago, I am unable to do much driving .these days so my car videoing days seem to be very limited.
I am the owner of the copyright of this video, why do you want to know?
Hello, my name is Jessica Bongi, I’m a recent film studies graduate. Me and my team are working on a small project and are looking for footage from Liverpool in 1960. We were wondering if it would be okay to use some of your footage for our work? Many thanks, Jessica Bongi

Did you know: The B4373 which also goes to Bridgnorth meets the A442 at Wombridge Interchange
You can get a bus between Telford and Much Wenlock. Route 18 runs Outbound 10:50, 12:50 and 14:40. There's an 8:50 departure on Saturdays
The.ship.described.as.the.oxfordshire.is.in.fact.either.ther.Empress.of.Britain.or.her.sistership.the.Empressof.England!!
Could have been Empress of England, Empress of Britain had been sold to Greek shipping company at this time. Difficult to be sure now!
I sailed on the England, but it could be the Empress of Canada? I worked on the SS Salvor also , couldn't see it in the video,
@@JohnJackson-px5vv My uncle sailed on the Empress boats, before he went to work on the Docks.
even worse now it finished
Well done Shelby, you have spotted the deliberate mistake! That's my story anyway.
you mean the a442? the a422 runs in milton keynes
i know that location! on the border of hadley right near where my nan lives
im going to dudley via the rabbit run very soon. my sister will come and pick me up.
