I'm really enjoying this series!

Tyldwick and Herbcrafters were left on the shelf, but I definitely thought about including them. As a Pacific Northwest card, blackberry is so on point. When I go to Seattle or Portland, both cities have walls of blackberry brambles. They are impassable. Tyldwick is just a little dark for what I was going for in my video, I was trying for the lighter side of the "Lightbringer." 👹

Thanks for this video. Personally I’ve never purchased a counterfeit deck and refuse to but I’ve noticed another market for these counterfeits and that’s in the papercraft community. I’m starting to see them pop up as collage fodder here on CZcams purchased on Temu but these people seem to have little or no idea what Tarot cards are let alone that they are counterfeit ones.

there are so many mass market decks out nowadays, that I can't believe someone can't find one that works for them. I had times in my life where 20€ was a fortune, then I saved up 1 € a time, until I could afford a book or deck. Or I put it on a wishlist, in case my family wanted to buy me a christmas present. It would never have occured to me to buy a fake deck. There is nothing wrong with having just a few decks or even just one, and there's nothing wrong with that one deck or few decks being mass market or bought second hand. If I can't afford that beautiful Indie deck, I'll just not get it, and neither the knockoffs. My legal mm decks answer all my questions very profoundly. Btw. even shops in the real world sell fake decks... it's not just an online shop problem.

Until the publishing houses get involved, and all of the other corporations that sell them get involved it will continue. Amazon needs to shut the fake dealers down to start with.

I consider myself pretty savvy at avoiding counterfeit decks, but the counterfeiters are getting better and it's getting more difficult to identify those decks. I can understand how people, especially those new to tarot, can get fooled. What I find sad is people knowingly purchasing counterfeit decks. I once purchased somebody's entire collection of mostly authentic, indie decks and it included five counterfeit decks. I had the authentic versions of three of those decks and the quality difference was huge. The counterfeit decks had terrible card stock (coreless paper), the image quality was poor, the colors were muddy and dull. They were not even worth the $7, or whatever, the counterfeiters would have charged for them.

Julie Poole makes her decks on demand. They take a while to receive but you can bet they are authentic and the creator gets her money.

Counterfeit goods are an inescapable outcome of rampant consumerism. The market will always provide products to suit every pocket. Brilliant forgers sell their beautiful fakes to rich collectors. Unscrupulous retailers sell fake goods to consumers, and many couldn't careless as long as they're cheap. The moral high ground cannot be taken by Tarot on CZcams whilst channels keep showing endless unboxing videos, and the tarot community keeps up the relentless consumption of decks.That is the vicious circle that drives the market for fake decks. A very 'First World' problem for consumers but profits from fake goods can do real harm. "If you buy counterfeit goods, you’re helping the trader to break the law. The money you’ve spent ends up funding organised crime such as drug dealing. You’re also contributing to job losses because genuine manufacturers are unable to match prices charged by rogue traders. Worst of all, you’re putting yourself at risk: some counterfeits can be dangerous to use and in some cases are made using toxic substances." Action Fraud UK.

I agree except for used oop decks sold through resellers. The artist has made all the money they will make and the only one who benefits in that case is the person who held onto it for a certain amount of time in order for it to appreciate. I have no problem with someone selling something at whatever price someone is willing to pay but I also think it’s fine for people to buy something recreated in the case of oop decks. I think the only people who have a problem with fakes in this case are the resellers. Who else is it hurting?

Such wonderful choices! I don't have the John Bauer tarot, but that Strength card is so lovely. For my "traditional" Strength card I chose the Runic Tarot, but it almost lost its place to the Pagan Otherworlds. I am tempted by the Lovely Om Tarot for the Strength card alone. Beautiful choices. I often feel like I'm in battle with the lovers card. I have a broad view of the card and it's range of meanings beyond romance and love of other(s) -- and yet every time I read for other people this card always comes up in the context of marriage and relationships with a significant other.

Unusually for me, I was enticed into drawing cards for a 'Wheel of the Year', and August is The Chariot. Therefore this TdM Trump coming up now piqued my interest. The chat was a stir with ideas, and strong feelings about this rather ambiguous card. But I want to keep this off beat Chariot and its passenger, the self satisfied Charioteer in their place. Great choices. the Wildwood is my favourite i think. Ironically i pondered on getting the deck for a long time and saw it peeking at me from an antiques shop window in Glastonbury so I bought it. Even the charity shops in Glastonbury sold great used decks. I was eyeing up the Mary El in a charity shop but i was walking through the door an assistant was taking it out of the window display for someone to buy. Went for £80 i think 😁
