      I can’t say for all battery operated brands but for this unit, the answer is yes. What you see in the video is all the run time I’ve had with it so far. We cut our stations grass weekly so all the shifts will use it and have some run time with it over the next few weeks and be able to get further feedback on it.

    Just an observation, this system is DEFinitely faster and way more efficient when you back up to the bigger cut ends of the piles, rather than the smaller brush stuff. It doesn't really just lay over the stuff, but more so feeds against it.

    Just noticed one more tip I can share with you. When using either a shredder deck or flail mower in unknown territory, lower the loader bucket as low as you can without dragging it (like you’re trying to scoop the vegetation but not the dirt) and this will help avoid hitting stumps and other obstacles with the mower. I found an 1870’s survey marker buried in 7’ of grass and saplings that way. Happy to say no damage to my flail mower or the concrete marker either.

    • @theturfjunkies4052
      @theturfjunkies4052 Před měsícem

      I tend to walk the area first to check for hazards but in the case of the unknown, then yes bucket low acts as a buffer.

      @@theturfjunkies4052 when I started on this land it had been left untouched for thirty years or more (formerly clear cut for lumber and replanted by National Forestry Service with mixed hardwoods and loblolly pines). There was no way to walk the grasses it was so thick, now it’s prime whitetail area bordering a National Forest. I plan on clearing it for pasture land either for hay production or grazing. I’m just babysitting the hardwoods to maturity at the moment, it’s going to be at least five to eight more years before I clear it.

  • @internetuser691

    From my experience (I have 55 acres deep in the piney woods of Texas) the Bestco flail mowers tend to ship with the belts not tight enough from the factory and I would venture to say you hadn’t tightened them when this occurred. Also (I think two others pointed out this as well) the rear roller should be the only thing on the ground when in use, DO NOT CUT IN REVERSE, and adjust the skids as low (extended out from the mower) as low as they will go. This mower cuts thick underbrush, saplings, and grasses as high as 7’-8’ tall without an issue. However I haven’t found one yet to chew up old engine parts. It is a learning curve and it’s far easier than what I used 50 years ago (a hand swinging sickle). Good luck from a first time viewer, I’ll be sure to check out your other newer videos too just to see how things turned out. PS: keep at least two spare hammers and a set of belts with you along with spare pins and a few bolts for the hammers. Adjustable wrenches don’t cut it keep the right size wrenches too. I have actually broken a hammer (you will notice an immediate vibration when that happens) on what turned out to be a piece of petrified wood, not sure how it got where it was but rocks are also common to appear from thin air it seems. One other thing I keep handy when on the back side of my place is a “snake charmer”, I hate snakes (cottonmouth’s, copperheads, and rattle snakes meet the charmer, all others get a chance to go away) when they surprise me but I try and identify them before doing anything to them. I lost a great dog to a cottonmouth, I certainly have no love for that species. Stay safe!

      Thanks. It can but not in large groups or diameters. The flail mower with hammer blades, unlike a mulcher w/ fixed teeth, has swinging blades that can easily break off if going into thicker stuff. I just try to show the viewers what it can do if someone was in the market to buying something similar.

    The belts on my finish mower smoke when cutting thick grass. I’ve snapped a couple of belts but I guess it’s cheaper and easier to change a belt than to change a gearbox. Usually the grass, which can grow six or seven feet tall, needs two passes to cut. The issue is a mountain of cut grass clogs up the mower. I’d like to buy a flail mower to cut long grass. I hope it doesn’t clog up like a finish mower does.

    • @theturfjunkies4052
      @theturfjunkies4052 Před 2 měsíci

      If you get one get it with the Y blades. They are designed to cut grass rather than the hammer blades which perform better in woody material better. Keeping the roller in the lowest hole will open the discharge chute more. I won’t say it will clog up all the time but leaves a more even discharge of grass rather than it windrow up like a brush cutter. I just recorded a job going from woody material to tall grass and seeing the difference. Stay tuned for that video in the future.
