The most confusing thing for me was that it doesn't seem to be about anything really, just literally "what would happen if this phenomenon actually occurred" I got a strong "metaphor" vibe throughout the whole movie, but it ended up being more of a realistic "what if?" scenario. Good video, though, drew some lines for me.

While I love this movie and have major fondness for it, I will admit that this is the adaptation I go back to the least. Something about other adaptations like Disney's Return to Oz, Legends of OZ: Dorothy's return, The Muppets Wizard of Oz, The James Franco prequel, And many more always interested me more and kept me invested more. Hell, Even the Tom and Jerry version of the same film I remember more. I think I like other versions because they took risks, pushed the story to it's limits, and got creative. By today's standards and Mine, the 39' film is the Safest and The weakest OZ film. Again I will say that the 1939 movie is still a classic and a Technical Landmark but it's not without it's flaws and the version I go back to the least.
