The UK Network of Age-friendly Communities is a growing movement, with over 80 places across the country committed to making their community a better place to age in.
At our 2023 conference, we caught up with network members to hear what age-friendly means to them, what is happening to make ageing better in their place, and the benefits they’ve found in being a member of the UK Network of Age-friendly Communities.

Once we reach 35 onwards then that's it.Old age is catching up and 40 is the start of the game.
It's all in the mind 😂😂
Great As a man thinkers in his heart so is he. I’m. 68 don’t feel or act old and I think I’m far from old
Every one, at some point/ stage in life, knows that one is old now as he can’t perform certain mundane tasks! Though his brain is still sharp and discerning! And it usually happens, different in each case though, in between 70 to 80 years span! There may be exceptions to it in some cases!!
It's a paradox, we all want a long life, yet no one wants to get old.
Old age 70
Hi
My dictionary defines middle age as 40-60. I'm currently 61 & consider myself old.
Britain is ridiculously ageist but I was ageist when I was young so I put it down to karma
80
These days i'd say 68 is when the shift begins. I am 55 and feeling v strong.
Yes bosses are ageist.
First grey hairs, so early-30s.
Old age began when I realized my ability to maintain interest in certain activities like running lost its appeal, balding became noticeable, and pain from bone loss enhanced. No particular age, more so a particular point in life!
I need to find such a class in Aireborough/Horsforth areas in Leeds, W.Yorkshire. can you help me please?
1 to 20 : Childhood (includes babyhood and teenage) 21 to 40 : Young age 41 to 60: middle-age 60 above : old age
I typed in 50-70 government and this showed up!
Why worry all going to be older . Relax 65 years not worried incase you full of fear..... Does it matter Gone on..till time began ... its not about us. Its about young people. Maria Gligan
You know that you’re old when friends compliment you on your new alligator shoes and you’re barefoot.
😅😂😂
I am a 59 year old bloody good legal Secretary and it is their loss if they don't interview me.
I see no ships, only hardships.
At 57 I can't think of a better time to be an advocate for ageing better. I never bought into the old narratives of our ageing parents and grandparents anyway. I Just bought the book and as a blogger and American expat living in Yorkshire, I look forward to implementing activities suggested to shine light on the subject on both sides of The Pond. Here's to growing older gratefully.
A positive, realistic and honest report from Anna Dixon. A valuable Manifesto on a most urgent subject, with a genuine ''wake up and shake up'' call. Anna speaks to all active leaders, at national and local level, urging serious collaboration and planning, in order to secure the future health and wellbeing of nations.
With respect this is a privileged person and not typical of her age group.
As a single pensioner, home-alone on lockdown and living below the poverty line, I've found the cost of being online prohibitive; participating in Zoom meetings, whilst relying on an old computer with very little memory and, therefore, an unstable connection is particularly stressful. facebook.com/3rdager/

It has taken COVID to accelerate the spread of digital access to those that need it most. I hope all other city's and authorities take a look at these pioneers and accelerate their plans and support.
Thank you for this. What an incredible mix! I feel desperately sorry for the folk who find themselves seemingly abandoned or side-lined when in, or approaching retirement. I want to be able to stand up and shout, "Old age brings with it a precious asset, something that cannot be bought, it is earned only by staying alive. It's called Life Experience." And it has never been easier to record your memories and even get them into print, than it is today. There is plenty of help available for those who want it. My first novel was written when I was 73, in a sort of lockdown imposed by chemotherapy. Four more have followed; I have a new career. I am now eighty-two. Please, just go for it, you can do something similar, if you try.

Hello, Like Trudie, I couldn't watch the live transmission but now that I have it was most interesting and useful to us. May I suggest that you watch our website at: www.lead50plus.com where here in Derbyshire we have a great IT set-up for people of all ages, regardless of age, and currently we are keeping in touch with people isolated at home by using the ZOOM video sessions - Roy Smith. (longeaton50plus@yahoo.co.uk).
Well worth attending the online event, thanks.
I couldn't join yesterday due to technical issues, but really enjoyed listening to this. It's given me a lovely end to the day. Thank you.

Spot on Anna. Lets hope that at least some of the politicians are listening. After all quite a few of them are ageing too!
