With all due respect to Mr. Minglewood I say ..no.. it doesn’t compare at all. Minglewood’s voice can’t compete with Toy Caldwell’s. Toy’s voice is rich, gritty, powerful and full of emotion. Mr. Minglewood’s voice in comparison, is ordinary. The storytelling at the beginning is redundant. I may be wrong, but if you listen to both songs several times you may begin to notice the difference. Thank you, I’m subscribing.❤

I first seen them when i was 8 years old on a Saturday afternoon in a Hard Days Night ,and i was hooked , ive been a Beatles fan for over 51 years , and this song gets to me everytime i see the video ,It brings back the memories ,and emotions . They made such an impact on the world when they came over to the USA , and became the greatest band in history . Ive been watching different reactions on you tube and it shows the love the fans in 2024 still have for them and their music . There is the Beatles ,and then everyone else . No one well ever touch them . Their music Sir George Martin called the Holy Grail , of music ,thats a powerful statement . I was born in 1968 so I was a little too young to remember these songs, but they are my favorites. This is when you really had to be a musician. Toy Caldwell, the singer and guitarist, wrote this song while serving in the Marine Corps in Vietnam. The dear John letters part is correct, but they were written to his fellow Marines.

The band is a little weak here, as is the whole mix. You should try the version backed by Nightwish from the Ziggodome in Amsterdam. Real power in that version.
