Edward Cucuel: American Impressionist and Master of Idyllic Outdoor Scenes
Edward Cucuel (1875-1954) was a celebrated American painter known for his impressionistic style and serene outdoor scenes featuring young women. Born in San Francisco to a German newspaper publisher, Cucuel began his art studies at fourteen, eventually continuing his education in Paris. He spent a significant portion of his career in Germany, where he became a member of the Munich Secession and developed a close friendship with painter Leo Putz. Cucuel traveled extensively, including a global journey in 1904, and later divided his time between Germany and the United States. His work was exhibited in prestigious venues such as the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts and the Salon d'Automne in Paris. With the onset of World War II, Cucuel permanently returned to the U.S., settling in Pasadena, California, where he lived until his death in 1954. This was interesting. He painted in many different styles but his impressionist pieces were, well, impressive! The two women ankle deep on the beach immediately caught my eye. Your upper banner text covered up the name of this painting, BTW. That is a little irritating...

1:40 .. it looks like Norman Rockwell had similarly been influenced by Thomas Pollock Anshutz' works .. I thought it was very courageous of him to include nude male figures in his paintings .. 3:11 my grand mother whose husband and three male children were all merchant seamen, had a reproduction of the maritime Anshutz painting showing ships in harbor above her mantlepiece .. great video :)
