Hi i need support
I definitely go a different route. I use a single midi track and draw in each cue on the same track. If I have multiple songs in the same file, each song will have its own midi track to control Lightkey. Each of these individual tracks then send to (what I call) a Lightkey Echo track, which receives all of the midi cues from different locations, and sends them to the Lightkey output. You can do much more with less work, and less channels.

I can’t get my MIDI channel output to show Lightkey. It shows up on the input but not the output. What am I doing wrong?
This tutorial would have made a little more sense, if the background lights weren't already on from the control panel during the first demo. The way this tutorial is laid out, you don't see the change of layering in the background on the 2nd MIDI track. It ends up looking exactly like it did in the first demonstration, as the background lights were left on for all of the demoes.
How did you mass select at the 7:20 mark? I have a subscription and cant for the life of me figure out how to select multiple cues without clicking each one!
I’m new to the term MIDI so I have a few questions. If you had a DJ board would you be able to tell Ableton how loud it is and activate cues etc, is it possible to not use Ableton to control Lightkey and is there another application that could be used that’s free? Thanks!
Hello. The software is great so far. Would you guys be able to make some updated videos please? It looks like a lot of the workflows mentioned in these videos have been changed and no longer match up with the latest iteration. It would also be great if you could do a version of videos highlighting more simple set ups, to much more complex ones. I in particular need a simple set up. But I’m sure others here could benefit greatly with more complex set ups. Also a video showing better set up and understanding with regards to the presets, from initial instal and separation of features, to actual integration into the live tabs and cues would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Hi Matt! Setting up sACN is really easy. You can find the necessary steps on p. 148 in the Lightkey User Guide (lightkeyapp.com/en/help/manual).
Does anyone know how to have lightkey hold a cue when Ableton stops running? Example: I have stop track set up at the end of the song so the band can introduce the next song but I want the last light cue to hold until it gets MIDI from the next song. As of right now as soon as the song ends in Ableton the cue and all the lights black out.
I’m using stop tracks too but I can’t get “Lightkey” to show up under my channel output. It shows up in the input, but not the output. Think you could help me?
It would be nice to have the option that the sequence start on the first beat. So if I have multiple sequences (like a strobe) and activate them one after the other that they are in sync. (Or could I just not find this option?)
What program are you using? If its Ableton just set the sequence Midi trigger to the first bar and link it to Ableton so it matches the tempo of your music.

Hi rrodg12, I’m afraid I must disappoint you, we don’t have plans for a Windows version. Lightkey runs only on Macs.
Hey - how can I change the tempo in lightkey from Ableton? Let’s say each song has a different BPM and want autoloops to sync to that BPM, how do I change it in Lightkey to be the same as Ableton?
Hi Michele, you can sync sequences and effects to the BPM in Ableton. This is described in ch. 11 of the Lightkey User Guide (lightkeyapp.com/en/help/manual).
Hey! how can i control live triggers through Ableton on a different computer
Hey Zamiel, you need to route MIDI messages over a network connection from the Ableton computer to the Lightkey computer. This is done with the app Audio MIDI Setup that comes with macOS. I can't explain all the details here, but there are a number of tutorials about this on CZcams and on the web. Note that Lightkey and Ableton Live must run on the same computer when you create your show, otherwise Ableton won't see the cues in Lightkey. But after everything has been set up you can run them on separate computers.
Does Lightkey work with myDMX-RM? I need to use the myDMX-rm as a standalone as I am not always physically there to run light shows. Thanks!

Yes, Enttec Open DMX USB interfaces work with Lightkey. Be sure to enable "Open DMX Interfaces" in the Preferences window > DMX Output.

Are the licences multi-campus or single-campus?
Hi Big Boy 92! A license can only be active on a single computer at any time, but you can move it between computers easily and as often as you like.

Hi, how do I get the DJ preset in the middle?
You can add photos from the same page you add fixtures, it's at the bottom left below all the truss, shape and text option. it's a little misleading in the video, but thats the only way to accomplish this

When I buy the software, do I have to pay every year again or the software works without update?
Lightkey licenses are always valid for one year, and all updates and support are free during that time. If you want to continue using Lightkey after that you need to buy a new license. Does that answer your question?
Lightkey yes thank you, just downloaded the software so I will be buying the license soon
i updated the program the latest version is corrupted,when create next preset and match new light , old preset crashed, And when you connect to the light device, the software gets in trouble, 1024 channels buy this software, and it's a lot different from the software itself.

Hi there, when I tried to create a second Lightkey track for additional cues, it did not read the first track that was put in. It appears to only recognize one or the other. Is there a way to fix this issue?
Hi Vikas, did you check if both tracks send on channel 16 as in the video? Then it should work. To check if Lightkey receives a trigger from Ableton, open the External Control window, click MIDI and select Live Triggers in the Configuration menu. When a trigger is received the corresponding binding flashes.
@@LightkeyApp HI Lightkey, I figured out the issue. It was because in the Live tab, the cues were attached to other. When I seperate them, it worked fine!

How do you create lighkey user library in ableton, to see all cues?
Hi Bob, your Lightkey projects and cues will automatically appear in Ableton's User Library. If not, please check if you have Lightkey 2.5 or newer and that Live Triggers are enabled in the External Control tab of the Preferences window. Does that help?

Hi Justin, you need to use Ableton Live 9 or 10 for Live Triggers.

Can't we run it from separate computers using Apple's Network Midi and having the same lightkey project on the computers?
Yes you can! I ran it for a show we did at my church. We had Ableton on stage running click and loop for our live performers and I used a midi network over wifi to sync to our lighting computer at FOH. The unfortunate thing is that the cues don't populate automatically onto the Ableton computer. I had to manually create midi clips with a different note for each cue and assign them the desired function within the control panel, but I only had about 20 cues so it wasn't that bad. If I had to do it again, I would have a copy of Ableton on the lighting desk so that I could populate the midi library folder and copy it over to the click/loop computer and program it to the timeline there. It wouldn't need to be the full version of ableton on the lighting console, and lots of midi controllers and interfaces have a bundled product key for ableton live lite/intro. You could get a control surface for your lighting software and save yourself some time while you're at it.
@@damienvonshnoot6520 That's midi sync, not Ableton Link, it can be done with any midi softwares then (Logic Pro X...). I think you can link them via Ableton Link using a Shared Network Directory that would share the Lightkey Live Triggers between the two computers.
When can we expect more video's? Been over 9 months since the last video. How about a video on best way to put together a light show? Some of us are new at this and would like to do more with our light shows
Thanks bro I do a bunch of lighting for my youth and now we have lightkey and suddenly I was lost, these are helpful but I have some moving heads (ADJ Innocolourbeams) and I add a preset in the pallet and give them a position and save it and put that into a button on the live show and when I press it the innos don't move to the set focus or "position" that I made for them in the button but when I edit that position present they do what I want so like....what the heck is up with that?
Hi James, that can be due to a number of reasons. Perhaps the position is overridden by an active preset or a cue with higher priority? If you email us the project file to hello[@]lightkeyapp.com we can take a look and tell you more.
